"So, when I write this, keep in mind I'm comparing it to sketchbooks I would buy that had the following attributes: medium weight (94 g/m^2), acid free, 11 in X 8.5 in, 70 sheets, with easy tear perforations, a two pocket folder in the front, cardboard backing with a soft cover, paper that is lined up properly when closed, sheets that don't stick to each other, and a wire binding that is the sames style as these ones. My experience buying this product. Pros: -Arrived on time. -Is the right texture of paper for what I want to do. -is the right size for what I want to do. -is basically exactly what I wanted at face value. Cons: -A few of the corners right out of the package were bent-this is irritating as I like to use the whole page, and I make enough mistakes and wrinkles on my own without the paper starting damaged. -the papers don't all line up. I have worked at a bindery before, and let me tell you, the way the paper does not line up when the book is closed is unacceptable. The biggest problem is the way the papers line up poorly, if I put this in my back pack it'll tear up the ones that are sticking out real quick."

Find Best Price at Amazon"FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE SHOPPING BUT DON’T KNOW TOO MUCH ABOUT THE PAPER. I don’t know about paper for pastels, charcoal (it’s not my best medium), watercolor, etc., but I do know about graphite or colored pencils for portrait drawing. 60lbs is what I consider Sketch paper, and it’s usually the pound of paper you’ll get for a book called a Sketch book. But I draw traditional realistic portraits, and 60lb doesn’t hold up against all of the wear-and-tear the paper will undergo for my 12 hours of drawing on it. If you are buying paper that is meant to be PRACTICE PAPER, you don’t need to get thick paper. Sketch paper is cheaper per sheet than drawing paper (usually), but it comes down to quality. For starting artists, I suggest one of each pad (both drawing and sketch) of about 12 inches tall, that way they have enough room to explore their talents in the Sketch pad, and then exhibit them on a grander platform in the Drawing pad. For the Drawing paper, 80lbs at minimum! If you want to do large-scale portraits, a big pad is definitely for you. If you want portraits that are about the size of a copying sheet of paper (ABOUT), then 9x12 is great to buy (I use that size most frequently). I draw on smooth paper, medium texture/smooth, with my graphite pencils. OTHER THINGS YOU OUGHT TO PURCHASE. Of course, the type of drawing you do is going to affect what tools you need. However, if you’re into realistic portraits of people, etc., I might have a few suggestions: - A set of blending stumps—or as many as you can get! I use these more often than my pencil in a drawing! ESSENTIAL for making things completely, stark white, like highlights. I have big pink ones, pencil erasers, kneaded erasers, and tiny mechanical erasers to get into small spaces easily. But, if you want to get fancy, you CAN definitely buy some nice Prismacolor or Derwent pencils (both are fantastic, EXPENSIVE pencils). The guide to pencils is this: 9H-H are hard pencils, and 9B-B are soft pencils. Generals pencils are nice and cheap, and they tend to work just fine for me. I happened across this neat tool recently when I bought a set of blending stumps and I LOVE it. I DO NOT suggest using mechanical sharpeners, sine I find that it gives off chips on the end of the pencil and eats away too much of your very expensive pencil sets way too fast."

"When it's good, it's very good; but when it's bad...The biggest problem I have had is with misalignment and misplacement. It turns out that some of the punched bits of paper were stuck at the end and were causing a slight misalignment. Similarly I was having trouble pushing the paper all the way in and discovered that bits of paper were stuck at the back edge and were keeping paper from going as far into the punching mechanism as they should. For this reason, I recommend keeping a good stack of scrap paper nearby and testing frequently as I used up a lot of expensive paper because of this problem. Make sure that the paper is pushed all the way to the back of the punching mechanism and check visually if you have any doubts."

It was just fine on the journal paper, but I do prefer the look of the ink on the computer paper. It glided nicely over the journal page and I didn't have to press hard to get a good ink flow, but it did leave more splits in the ink than on the computer paper. It was a brand new pen so that may account for some of the breaking, but it wasn't annoying enough for me to stray from wanting to write with this one. Somehow these felt like the bad kind of scratchy on the journal pages, but not so much on the computer paper. There was a lot of minimal bleeding both away from the line and through to the other side, which can be seen in the close-up and the back pictures."
