"For those of you who may not understand a relay, let me try and explain: A relay is hooked up to your batteries positive and negative terminals (or simply grounded), while yet another wire from the relay goes to a switch. The idea of a relay is that you can run a very thin gauge wire for the switched circuit (off the ignition usually) a long distance to the relay. The power wires can be kept short as large gauge wire costs more and it doesn't make sense to run 20 feet of 8 gauge wire if you don't have to!"
