"Easy to use, and gets rid of the weeds."
"Update 10/10/14: After running a tank of propane the self-igniting feature started to work--when it works it works very well."
"I have used an "Alaskan Pipeline" size propane torch for years to kill weeds along chain link fencing, to light brush piles, and fire up a barbeque pit. While searching the net for a weed burner for my daughter I ran across this Bernzomatic 19425 JT850 Self-Igniting Outdoor Torch. When weed burning just pass the flame over the grass and weeds enough to, cause a slight darkening of the coloration with the heat (rupturing the cell walls in plant) and move on."
"Throw away those undependable click lighters (that never seem to work, even when filled with fuel) and light your campfires quickly and from a safe distance!"
"I called Bernzomatic Customer Service who suggested that I vacuum out the tube as my problem sounded like something was restricting the air / propane flow. The torch appears to not have good design features: Air is mixed in below black handle rather than simply at the bottom of the tube. Gasket at female end of handle that mates with propane bottle appears to be a natural fiber similar to cork which may flake off. Tube melted off when I purposely tested as listed below to try to isolate blow out issue which in my opinion was the air / propane mixture ratio and pressure. Tested piezo self starter which showed good spark when viewed from bottom of tube. Flipped black tube handle upside down and opened propane valve completely. Used sewing straight pin for hemming to verify valve body propane hole not plugged. Replaced natural material gasket at female end of torch with a synthetic non flaking gasket from a propane bottle long term storage stop leak cap. My experiment resulted in the torch being too hot and overheating tube beyond designed safety temperature. Completely disassembled propane valve and took photos and wrote up this review. Comment to Bernzomatic: I think you have some problems that you should check into: improve user manual to include re-lighting details and troubleshooting details, design of product, manufacturing quality control, and verify that some Chinese company is not impersonating your product on Amazon and selling garbage. The user manual should be improved to give clear safety instructions including eye protecting against overheated exploding rocks, detailed troubleshooting steps, and detailed cleaning and servicing instructions. You should provide refurbishment service or replacement regardless of whether product is bought online or in a retail store. Comment to buyer: I would not take a risk on this product no matter how many good write ups you read. I did some research online and decided to buy a Harbor Freight weed burning torch by Greenwood item number 91037."
"However, after running 1/2 to 3/4 pound of propane I noticed the flame was not as focused, and then the tip dropped off 6 inches up from the bottom."
"Keeps shutting off after 15 minutes of use."

"After owning them both, my vote is still for the 400,000 BTU model w/ SVC valve hands down over the 100,000 BTU models. The only downside to this model is not really a downside at all... you have to assemble this one yourself where the 100,000 BTU model w/ SVC valve comes fully assembled which they work rather generously into the pricetag. This assembly and a 12PSI pressure reducer is that $40 extra you are paying for when you buy the lesser model - YOU ARE NOT BUYING A BETTER PRODUCT, but a product that simply costs more to manufacture when you compare this torch to the more expensive 100,000 BTU models. Most of my review below was written after I realized I had made a mistake in buying the 100,000 BTU model, but before I actually replaced it with the 400,000 BTU model. Anyway, my original review for this torch is below, and I did a few edits here and there so it would still make sense now that I've actually been using the 400,000 BTU torch for almost a year, but it will still read like I haven't used this torch yet, so don't be too confused by that. While using the 100,000 BTU model, I had the circle valve cranked to full (probably 90,000 BTU), and I had the push button held down almost the whole time I was weeding just to get a few more BTU's out of the torch... in other words, more BTU's would have been a good thing, and I was willing to sacrifice comfort to get them... yes 100,000 BTU's is certainly adequate to get the job done, but IT IS CERTAINLY NOT IDEAL. With the 100,000 BTU version I was holding the valve down the entire time which wasn't comfortable because I NEEDED THOSE EXTRA BTU's... the time savings alone would so easily be worth the extra cost in propane, and we are not talking about 4X the propane consumption like I was thinking... with the time savings factored in, and the torch operating as I have stated here, you are probably only talking about maybe 25-35% of addition propane usage because it should take 1/3 less time (or better) to weed @ 200,000 BTU's. Even if you have it cranked up, and you're taking your time, it's still not worth even your time to go with the cooler model, and I guarantee you the hotter models are going to be more fun than the lesser models to use. But with this model, I could see wanting the 400,000 BTU's on occasion, but it would not be economical, or necessary to have the 400,000 BTU's the entire time (200,000 BTU's or less would be an ideal base setting). I'm not sure why this red SVC model is about $40 cheaper than the green model (update: because it's not assembled), but as a buyer with regret, take my advise, and evaluate propane usage fairly, and get the model that is more fun to use, faster to use, and so easily worth the additional propane cost. Weeds in the garden seem to stay away longer vs. traditional weeding because this thing also kills the seeds and I would estimated weeding takes about 10x less time to do... some weeds grow back, but most don't and because it takes almost no time at all to weed my 1/3 acre I don't care much if some weeds need to be burned twice.]. The highest rated quick-turn fitting I could find (Mr. Heater brand) was rated at 140,000 BTU's, and my torch would not even operate until I drilled and punched out the regulator ball and enlarged the hole to 5/32" because the torch is rated @ 400,000 BTU's."
"I have had this for 48 hours now and here is my initial review. Here are some general tips: 1) If you turn your propane tank on too fast then you will barely get any gas, turn it off and then back on slowly so it doesn't trip the valve. It is important to see the flame (that is invisible in the day) so you know how far it shoots so you don't kill plants you want to keep and also so you can learn how to not snuff it out by allowing the tip to come too close to plants. 3) Because this is painful to use one handed, either get a 25' extension hose (~$30/each here on Amazon), or, do what I did... order a backpack frame from Amazon (~$35) and strap the propane cylinder to your back. 4) You can use a 20lb "BBQ" tank that will be 40 lbs when full or you can go to a welding supply, etc., and get a 10lb tank. I got a 10lb propane tank that was full of propane for $39 here locally. End of season update 11/2/2014. We used the Red Dragon this year for 2 main things: 1) To flame 24-48 hours after seeding. Sips the gas too, uses way less than I thought it would. You don't want these to be cold."
"This flame thrower burns the weed into nothing! It will burn the grass just like it does the weeds."
"I do recommend that for a female, you order the pull-a- long as the big propane tank is a little much as I tried it secured to our handtruck, which I need 2 hands for."

"They worked ok as long as I used 2 of them, but even though they are apparently non-toxic and not considered lighter fluid, I thought it still had a bizarre smell when lighting. In Canada, I can seem to only find the short trigger type torches, which given the amount of sparking that can occur with fast lighting charcoal, I thought best to keep my hand at a distance. BTW, I used propane, not MAPP (which I've read is even faster to light charcoal, but 30 seconds is fast enough for me)."
"Worked like a dream first time I used it."
"Love this guy!"
"Perfect for driveway and parking pad."
"Burns the house down, major advance over using a hoe for those impossible to reach spots."
"This is the best lawn tool I have ever bought!!!!"
"You have to keep the fuel level very low or it won't ignite."
"A little on the weak side, but straightforward to ignite and use."

Reviews
"used this product for ten years a shop, must have piece of equipment."
"Gift for my husband."
"I'm very pleased at how well and simple this little torch is."
"Very nifty compact torch set for precision soldering and brazing."
"The tips are made all copper, even the compression fitting (the bulbous part under the ring that turns down on the torch handle. The housing, which you are supposed to be able to slide down to access the hard tubes on the handle, doesn't slide down - because the brass colored fittings the hold the lines to the handle are made as one piece (the Smith is to separate fittings - one for each hose)."
