Find Best Price at Amazon"Easy to grasp, detailed enough to give you the larger picture, this is a very helpful compendium of information. I am an older ('grandmother-age') senior female, and one would think (my driving record is good, and my insurance rates low, my credit outstanding), an upstanding citizen like myself would be pretty "arrest proof". This book indicated *in the days of Ted Bundy* (1978 timeframe), the police did a "block by block" lockdown of city traffic and pedestrians, in Tallahasee, Florida, and checked everyone at night before 4 am. "Just kidding", tdeemed "not credible" this is now a young man facing charges. The guy sold his reputation and his future for a few minutes of fame on social media. In politically correct N. Virginia, his parents could lose their positions in some cases. And little things add up: "How you dress" (your tatoos; your clothes, your bumper stickers, where you hang out). This book explains in detail (and even provides two helpful printable checklists for checking to see how you stack up). Last week at Pizza Hut, I saw three people who looked so sketchy, in their dress and tatoos, that were I a cop; I would definitely have taken notice. And... what was really funny, was that two doors down from the Hut, there are two "cop hangout" eateries in this strip mall. Mr. Carson says this: "Hanging out at night is one of the biggest items in the crook profile. This obvious fact is the reason that, in many jurisdictions, hanging out is a crime called loitering". A lifelong friend did a ten year stint as a parole officer and analyst, and she says: "lots of good guys in jail; even on death row". Carson has lots to say here about "loose narcotics" carried by kids that can get them into trouble. I could go on and on: but the bottom line is clear: YOU NEVER want to get in the system for any reason, and you start doing that by limiting your exposure. Parents, teachers, CLERGY, coaches: Read this book; buy it for your young proteges."
"Instead it guides you to let the police intimate you and to cower, poop your pants, etc. It's basically states that police are corrupt, and will do anything including punching you in the balls to gain an arrest. If anything this book should be used as a basis for laws limiting police powers."
"Nothing is going to stop an arrest if they really want to take you in."
"Very insightful into the minds and intentions of the police and our court sytems."
"For all who are still ignorant or clueless about how the justice-, law-enforcement- and surveillance-system is designed and works(even against law abiding citizens), this book is highly recommended as it really may help especially those younger folks to survive adolescence unscathed and to stay out of the "plantation", as the author describes the place nobody likes to be "planted" in; or it may help older fellas to help themselves and others, to reconsider and make smarter choices to keep out of trouble; out of jail or prison."
"If you think cops are saints and there's justice in the legal system, you are delusional and will learn something by reading this book."
"A bit corny but read this book before you venture out again It's a good guide to how to behave in public and avoid contact with police when necessary."
"I find this book to be highly repetitious."

During Liddy's introduction, Chairman Kanjorski raised the issue about Liddy's former role as CEO of Allstate, and that company's denial of insurance contract claims. You can also find out how, during his leadership at Allstate, Liddy oversaw that company's rejection of Hurricane Katrina home loss claims, how those costs were passed off on the American taxpayers through the National Flood Insurance Fund, and how Allstate and Liddy profited by passing off the losses to taxpayers. They created a plan for Allstate's claims operations known as the Claims Core Process Redesign or simply CCPR...To date, CCPR has generated between $15 to $25 billion in excess profits for Allstate's stockholders. However, in 2004 Allstate claims its net income rose to a record $3.1 billion, despite 4 hurricanes in the Southeastern United States.

Nonetheless this book is essential reading for individuals who believe that their insurance claims may not have been handled fairly by Allstate, or who may be considering the purchase of home, auto or other P&C insurance from Allstate. Additionally this is "must" reading for insurance professionals interested in keeping their industry "clean", attorneys interested in insurance law and claims practices, those interested in the preservation of corporate ethics and the rule and protection of the law in free market economics, as well as students of first class problem solving will all benefit from and appreciate this book."

The tenth-anniversary edition of the definitive account of the Enron scandal, updated with a new chapter The Enron scandal brought down one of the most admired companies of the 1990s. Elkind, an award-winning investigative reporter, is now an editor-at-large for Fortune and lives in Fort Worth, Texas.
Reviews
Find Best Price at Amazon"Many of the main characters at Enron have personalities as big someone written for fiction, so the book is actually fairly entertaining despite the dry and factual subject matter."
"Enron was a high wire act, a company on steroids, an innovator, obsessed on making deals and its stock price."
"I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in American business, corporate greed, or the money machinations of Wall Street."
"Once heralded as the most innovative, paradigm changing company in the world was brought low by the fact its business didn’t actually do anything."
"It answers the question: Why do we enjoy so much stories about high flying business types who crash and burn by their own hubris and greed?"
"Starting with an overview of the players and the original pipeline company that later became Enron, the book takes the reader through the rise of one of the greatest house of cards in modern business history. Noting that many of the issues around Enron's house of cards were in somewhat plain sight to anyone looking for them, and the element of unrestrained greed permeated the entire enterprise, the authors bring forth a storyline that would be amazing and incredible, had it not been true. The reader will view the simplicity of structure, the need for honesty and clarity in disclosure, and the abject understanding of the economics (not the financial reporting) of the transaction is absolutely critical."
"Very interesting read, particularly if you're educated/experienced in corporate and investment finance and accounting."
"I didn't expect to be courted by an account where my emotions would hob-nobb from empathy, to skepticism, to amusement, then annoyance, followed by outrage, and finally disbelief... and not always stemming from `the cast of characters', or in this order. More so than this story could have been, and could be any one of ours', McLean and Elkind really weave an interesting personal element into this entangled economic debacle well worth the experience."

No more paying top dollar to attorneys and credit repair companies.
Reviews
Find Best Price at Amazon"Almost all of the books that fall into the “credit repair” category here on Amazon provide essentially the same information, which is usually very general and easy to find online for free by searching Google. The reason all of these books contain this same information is because the process for filing disputes is easily learned online. Having said that, I can say that the information contained in this book is laid out in an easy to understand, concise fashion that most readers will be able to easily digest. A short introduction where the author describes his or her background in the financial planning business (for over 18 years), as well as experience as a mortgage broker. During this time it is was in the author's interest to ensure that prospective clients would have a high enough credit score to purchase his or her products, so a leap into the world of self-directed learning began, and the author became an expert at repairing (or building, or rebuilding) her potential clients' credit scores. I believe that this means the content of this section is equal to other available choices, however I feel that the way the information is organized and presented in the book can save time over doing independent research. The book then goes into a description of debt validation, a process when you are dealing directly with collection agencies and want to force them to comply with the law. It can take a long time to fix your credit, so get started right now so you can be ready for the future."

The fourth edition of The Essays of Warren Buffett: Lessons for Corporate America celebrates its twentieth anniversary. Warren’s 50th anniversary retrospective, in what Bill Gates called Warren’s best letter ever, on conglomerates and Berkshire’s future without Buffett; Charlie Munger’s 50th anniversary essay on “The Berkshire System”; Warren’s definitive defense of Berkshire’s no-dividend practice; and Warren’s best advice on investing, whether in apartments, farms, or businesses. “Cunningham has done a truly commendable job distilling and organizing the essence of Buffett's letter to Berkshire shareholders...While the essays reviewed in the latest edition of this volume range across a broad assortment of topics, for most readers the most valuable part of this book will be Buffett's lessons and insights on investing. He's great at homespun metaphor, but behind those catchy phrases is a reservoir of financial acumen that's generally considered the best of his generation. For example, in an essay on CEO stock options, he writes, "Negotiating with one's self seldom produces a barroom brawl." There are uncountable gems of financial wisdom to be harvested from these essays, taken from the annual reports he writes for Berkshire Hathaway, his holding company. Just to pick one more, here's a now-famous line about those he competes with when making stock-market investments: "What could be more advantageous in an intellectual contest--whether it be chess, bridge, or stock selection--than to have opponents who have been taught that thinking is a waste of energy?"

From Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist Jesse Eisinger, “a fast moving, fly-on-the-wall, disheartening look at the deterioration of the Justice Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission…It is a book of superheroes” ( San Franscisco Review of Books ). These revealing looks provide context for the evolution of the Justice Department’s approach to pursuing corporate criminals through the early 2000s and into the Justice Department’s approach to pursuing corporate criminals through the early 2000s and into the Justice Department of today, including the prosecutorial fiascos, corporate lobbying, trial losses, and culture shifts that have stripped the government of the will and ability to prosecute top corporate executives. "That the Wall Street titans who blew up the financial system suffered little more than slight reductions in their bonuses only reinforced the perception that the “system” is 'rigged'—with the consequences we know only too well. The unfolding of the financial crisis makes for thrilling drama in Eisinger's hands, heightened by the anxiety still felt by all who survived it. “Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist Eisinger does a masterful job of assembling this riveting dossier of the legal scholars, jurists, and elected officials who played a role in turning the U.S. into a nation in which white-collar criminals are celebrated for their cunning instead of incarcerated for their offenses.” —Booklist, Starred Review. “In a spare, elegant and unrelenting narrative, Jesse Eisinger's The Chickenshit Club tackles one of the biggest remaining mysteries about the 2008 financial crisis: Why the American justice system failed miserably in its responsibility to hold Wall Street accountable for its unforgivable behavior in exacerbating the near-meltdown of the global banking system.
Reviews
Find Best Price at Amazon"The Chickens--t Club is a fast moving, fly on the wall, disheartening look at the deterioration of the Justice Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission, written sympathetically, thoroughly, but mostly - engagingly. They operate on their own, independent of the Justice Department, their dotted line overseers. They turned up clues, did forensic accounting, and turned (“flipped”) lower level criminals to get the executives. With George W. Bush, Justice deteriorated under Secretary Alberto Gonzalez, who was forced to resign, and the SEC deteriorated under Christopher Cox, whose intent appeared to be to simply let it collapse from inactivity. They have been battered by the collapse of Arthur Andersen, which put a lot of employees on the street, and has given us ridiculous arguments over “too big to fail” and markets that “self-regulate”. The most notable is probably (Judge) Jed Rakoff, who began at the SEC and as a judge, had the temerity to refuse settlements between the government and the corporate criminals, because they were superficial, trivial, insufficient, and demonstrated no sense of justice whatsoever. As a result, settlements now avoid approval by the courts. The final impression is that there is an absolute rainbow of crime constantly glowing over corporate America."
"James Comey gave Eisinger the title for his book when he took over as prosecutor for the Southern District of New York under a newly elected George W. Bush. Eisinger says that the very moment Comey gave that speech may have represented the apogee of prosecutorial zeal on the part of the financial enforcement regime. Even sadder, there is nobody looking out for the interests of the taxpayer, who is the pigeon of last resort, picking up the tab when the abuses that have been covered up by financial shenanigans finally cause a massive collapse."
"Like a lot of people, I found the 2008 meltdown pretty hard to understand. Jesse's book cut through all the jargon and the purposefully dense legalese and explained the financial scandal in clear, understandable terms that have opened my eyes."
"I knew that corporate executives were not found to jail for obvious felonies, this book explains why and how the government became so weak that it didn’t even try to go after individuals for a while and had low success when it restarted."
"eye opener....james coomey is in here with a passion for justice."
"Although I have not finished this book, what I have read of it is excellent--good information well presented."
"LOVED this book!"
"Eisinger describes a core problem with our criminal justice system and some of the reasons behind the disparity in the administration of justice in America."

Find Best Price at Amazon"General Henry M. Robert published the original "Robert's Rules" in 1875 and 1876 and, since the copyright on that edition (and the next few editions) has long since expired, there are numerous unofficial editions on the market. With the copyright expired, even the name "Robert's" has passed into the public domain, and many imitators have slapped the name "Robert's" on books of parliamentary procedure that bear minimal relation to General Robert's work (much as many dictionaries claim the name "Webster's" without any connection to Noah Webster or the Merriam-Webster brand that carries on his work).
