Give It a Go, Eat a Rainbow
Give It a Go, Eat a Rainbow uses charming illustrations by 12-year old Alexander Guylay combined with real-life photography and simple rhymes by award winning nutrition educator Kathryn Kemp Guylay to create an augmented reality that immediately draws kids into the story. The colors (and fruits and veggies) lead to the pot of gold, where Blake feels vibrant and full of energy. Targeting early childhood and elementary school age groups, this picture book will be simple yet profound in promoting healthy eating habits in children. When conceptualizing her new children's book on eating well, Give It a Go, Eat a Rainbow , Alex's mom Kathryn Kemp Guylay knew immediately that her son's artwork would be an ideal fit for the book. His warm and witty sense of humor allows him to share information about healthy living in a way that is high impact and well-received by other children.
Reviews
"If you have some types of e-reader the wonderful pictures will be in black and white, which is really a shame because this book is full of glorious colour on every page. We recommend buying the print version to enjoy all the pictures."
"There are notes for the parents to ask the child while they are reading along with them to pick out what foods are red and what part of the body they are good for."
"Yet I never would have thought of what this book does, which is to impact kids' choices of what foods to eat. A study researching the impacts of bibliotherapy (though this book is for the parents) versus therapy for families of autistic spectrum kids (and for that matter, any kids) with sleep difficulties, the outcome proved to be that therapy and reading a book could be equally helpful."
"Since I love that I've had SO much success with getting my picky eater daughter to try and to now eat fruits and veggies because of this book, I purchased 2 more to send to my neices and nephews!"
"A fun and easy way to teach children about nutrition and healthy eating habits!"
"At home I teach my daughter about eating the rainbow, so this book is a wonderful support to my approach in order to help increase the variety and amount of fruits and vegetables she eats."
"I was looking forward to clever color play and this felt more like a mishmash of stuff thrown together just to support the story."
"Too bad this book isn't more well known."

"I would say the illustrations and message were good for my 3.5 yo. 2 stars off due to the following: 1) If you are not a fan of using judgemental labels / shaming, there are some terms that do need to be substituted such as inferring that children are "naughty" simply because they hold their poop."
"Thanks for the helpful book."

Starred Review, Publishers Weekly : “Few first novels pack more of a punch: it's a rare story with the power to open eyes--and hearts--to what it's like to be singled out for a difference you can't control, when all you want is to be just another face in the crowd.” Starred Review, Booklist : “Palacio makes it feel not only effortless but downright graceful, and by the stand-up-and-cheer conclusion, readers will be doing just that, and feeling as if they are part of this troubled but ultimately warm-hearted community.”. Starred Review, School Library Journal : "Palacio has an exceptional knack for writing realistic conversation and describing the thoughts and emotions of the characters...A well-written, thought-provoking book. "I'm a 54 year old grandfather who served in the Marine Corps (just for a little context). Palacio...I can't believe how she so accurately and consistently pegs human nature."
"The most emotional moment for me came toward the end of the book when Auggie's father tells him that he loves the way Auggie looks, because that it exactly how my husband and I feel about our son."
"Author R.J. Palacio writes the book in multiple voices -- Auggie's, some of his friends', his sister's -- and the different points of view are mostly very well-realized and show the inner feelings of the different characters."
"I would recommend all young children to read this book and I would certainly recommend adults to read it because it will certainly change that "judgement of others" into "an acceptance of others.""
"I'm a Special Needs teacher and I love how this book teaches "typical kids" to accept someone who looks different in their school; it makes the child who's different feel special as well."
"On a recommendation from my daughter (35), I read it after I saw the movie."

"This would be much less of a problem with older child, but I believe a book that is also meant for very young kids should be published with rounded edges not to pause a safety hazard, I've rounded the edges with scissors myself and now, it's safe but of course, not as pretty:( Good job on behalf of the author, otherwise."
"She loves the book, and shows pride in showing us her poses...it's her little brother that doesn't quite understand the intent of the book and becomes silly when doing poses and instigates her to become hyper again."
"Such a cute book and fun activity for caregivers and little ones."

Science in Seconds for Kids: Over 100 Experiments You Can Do in Ten Minutes or Less
Make lightning in your room! Keep paper dry under water! Other projects are more intriguing, such as using oil, water, and sunshine to make a rainbow, or creating a simple sand clock. The book is not terrifically exciting; its strength is that youngsters will be able to use it successfully on their own, and in many cases will learn a bit about science in the process.
Reviews
"I used this book for my Head Start kids and we found out that they really liked the new found knowledge about science."
"My home schooling daughter-in-law loves these hands-on science books for kids."
"I am using this book with preschool children and they love the experiments."
"I think that this is just the right book for kindergarten children."
"Great book!"
"Good experiments to do with your kids during the day without a lot of set up."
"My seven year old grandchild loved this book."
"While many of the experiments are fun and instructive, there are several which show a complete lack of understanding of the science behind them. While there is a difference in the weight of an object at a high altitude and a low one, this difference is far too small to be detected by a bathroom scale at tyhe top and bottom of the world's highest building."

Reviews
"I say this delicately, because this is an important book about a vital topic...in its current state, this is not a book to give your kids. We have to keep the prying eyes of our 8 year old from seeing things that would cause her to ask questions in front of her 3 year old brother that he certainly couldn't handle. I would pay extra for two items, because this is important."
"My 3 year old asked me to read it 3x in a row and she enjoyed answering the catechism questions like we do at night and listing the parts of her body that God made. Some of it is a little above her head but I think it is great to start early and have both parent and child comfortable with open conversation."
"I do wish they hadn't included a note to the parents in here, or had at least made it easy to remove - my 7yo would absolutely freak out if she read that part, so I have to be careful not to leave the book lying around."
"Corrie TenBoom has a wonderful story of how her father used the idea of a heavy suitcase to help her understand a parent's timing in the process of sharing knowledge with his or her children, and the things I mentioned above seem like they might make that suitcase a little to heavy for my kiddos at this time. May the Lord grant us wisdom as we engage this topic with our children!"
"My family is at the stage where we need to have conversations with our children about appropriate and inappropriate touching. The stories of the children Kayla and David and their parents kept my children's attention and are told in ways children as little as three can understand."
"I love the way this book explains God's authority over us as His creation and showing what it looks like in real life situations."

The Disney Princess Cookbook
From Rapunzel's Frying Pan Eggs to Ariel's Sea Turtle Cupcakes, this beautiful cookbook is filled with delicious recipes inspired by the Princesses' many adventures.
Reviews
"I couldn't stand Disney's extreme "makeovers" on all the princesses, where they glammed them up by not only giving them more makeup and fancier hair and clothes, but also changed their bodies and faces, making them taller, skinnier, paler, older and vapid. But in this book, the princesses look just like they did in the movies, very cute, more "real" (as real as a cartoon can get) and down-to-earth, with some personality."
"Book came nicely packaged."
"My daughter is three and loves to “cook” with me. Every recipe has a photo (I wish every cookbook was like that!). and a lovely drawing of the princess cooking it."
"Finally, being Disney fans, we love the artwork and my daughter always relates to the recipes and the characters who made them."
"Being involved in preparing meals is important and you have an opportunity to teach them math skills in a fun way."
"I love that they make the food pretty to eat, shaped like flowers in one."
"I really wanted a cook book to start with my daughter a few things here or there."
"This had recipes so cute and easy that I almost kept it for myself instead of gifting it to my kid sister."

"I explained to my child that computers save browsing history so people can see what others have searched/looked at, that there is inappropriate and harmful content online, that computers can get viruses or other issues when inappropriate links are opened, etc."
"I am amazed at how much I enjoyed this book. So here it is: "When a woman and a man want to make a baby, they hug, and cuddle and kiss and feel very loving, and get very close to each other - so close that the man's penis goes inside the woman's vagina."
"My sister recommended leaving it on the bookshelf for the kids to privately pick up when needed. My 13 year old nephew has referred back to it at times when he's too cool to talk to his parents."

Potty (Leslie Patricelli board books)
A new toddler title charts a crucial achievement.
Reviews
"This book shows (so you can decide if it matches your needs): - A gender-less baby character (12 months to 24 months max). - Child using a toddler potty (not the regular toilet). - A naked baby with privates cleverly covered; one image of a bare butt (see pic). - A dog and cat going potty outside and in cat box. - No actual poop or pee. - Baby running with toilet paper in celebration at the end (see pic). The story, in a nutshell [I say he, but baby could easily be a girl]: Baby has to go potty and wonders where he should go (in diaper or somewhere else). Last page spread just depicts all kinds of underwear, presumably to help your little one can get excited about wearing them (boy and girl styles shown). This book has short, simple sentences and clearly target the younger potty training crowd (definitely for under 2, though older toddlers may still enjoy). I'll be reviewing every potty training book I can get my hands on in the near future as I find the ones I like best so stay tuned!"
"My kid loves this book."
"We just started potty training."
"I have a lot of books from this collection and love love them."
"Really fun book written the right level for kids."
"She still read it while on the potty just about every day."

El Deafo
In this funny, poignant graphic novel memoir, author/illustrator Cece Bell chronicles her hearing loss at a young age and her subsequent experiences with the Phonic Ear, a very powerful—and very awkward—hearing aid. After some trouble, she is finally able to harness the power of the Phonic Ear and become “El Deafo, Listener for All.” And more importantly, declare a place for herself in the world and find the friend she’s longed for. (Katherine Bouton New York Times Book Review 2014-08-24). "This funny and poignant memoir in graphic novel format about a child grappling with hearing loss, entering school and making friends is ideal for kids navigating new experiences."
Reviews
"Cece is my daughter and I am so very proud of her for baring her soul to write El Deafo."
"I was diagnosed with a hearing loss at age 16. I want my friends to read this."
"It inspired several great conversations about family, disabilities, friendship, and growing up."
"He is 9 and has just started reading independently and I'm so happy this wonderful book is inspiring him!"
"Teaches people that people who can't hear well can make friends but sometimes you have to be open to it and you also have to be resourceful."
"Daughter loves this and so do her parents (us)."
"This is what I love about this book: 1) It explores in realistic details the ups and downs of the life of a little girl as she grows up from kindergarten to the end of elementary school. The book starts out in pretty traumatic fashion showing the confusion and pain the girl goes through when she gets ill, goes to the hospital and eventually falls deaf. Over all, a refreshingly different and realistic book that explores in depth the challenges faced by a girl who goes deaf."
"As a parent of a deaf child, I can tell you first-hand that the author covers so many situations that are typical struggles for a child with hearing loss: from socializing to watching tv, to just following along in class...all of the things most of us take for granted. Even if your child has different experiences, I think this book provides an excellent kickstart for conversations about these typically challenging situations, what feelings they might want to discuss, and suggestions about how these situations may be handled."
