60 Hikes Within 60 Miles: Dallas/Fort Worth: Includes Tarrant, Collin, and Denton Counties
Hikes include treks through open prairies, rolling hillsides, lakeside beaches, and other treasures all found just a daytrip or less from the Dallas / Fort Worth Metroplex. When I set out to update 60 Hikes Within 60 Miles: Dallas-Fort Worth , the questions that plagued me on the last edition were once again foremost in my mind. In the last edition of this book, I tried to select trails from all corners of the Metroplex so that, no matter where you lived, you could find something close to home.
Reviews
"This book is great and has invited me to explore places I've never been before--right here in my own town."
"Great book!"
"It's a great quick-reference guide, and I loved how it is layed out so that you can search by what kind of hike you feel like taking (easy, long, short, scenic, busy, secluded, etc) and how far you want to travel to get there."
"What a treat to find so many places to walk and hike in my 'new' backyard."
"Great summary of trails and parks."
"Got this for Christmas from my wife."
"This book provides many great trails to hike in DFW, many of which would be difficult to find on your own."

Rounding the Horn: Being the Story of Williwaws and Windjammers, Drake, Darwin, Murdered Missionaries and Naked Natives--a Deck's-eye View of Cape Horn
Fifty-five degrees 59 minutes South by 67 degrees 16 minutes West: Cape Horn—a buttressed pyramid of crumbly rock situated at the very bottom of South America—is a place of forlorn and foreboding beauty that has captured the dark imaginations of explorers and writers from Francis Drake to Joseph Conrad. He revels in the tales of those who made the entire trip, however, and spends much time vividly recounting their adventures, found in old books with thrilling titles like The World Encompassed and A Two Years' Cruise off Tierra Del Fuego . Nautical buffs will find some of these yarns familiar: Darwin's South American voyages aboard HMS Beagle were the subject of last fall's Evolution's Captain , by Peter Nichols, and Murphy's version adds little to the story beyond subtle interpretive differences.
Reviews
"I ended up being surprised how enjoyable of a read this has been."
"If you are into "sailing around the Horn" this book is for you."
"The book is illustrated only with clearly-drawn maps , but perhaps a detailed sketch of the ships would have increased understanding for readers [like me] who have no knowledge of seaman's language , or a glossary of terms used to describe parts of a sailing ship and her rigging."
"I felt the presence of all these adventurers as we smoothly sailed (February) out from Ushuaia, through the straits, to board Cape Horn...and Aguila Glacier, then more narrows until we reached Puerto Arenas."
"Covering everything from the earliest Spanish explorers to the present day territorial conflicts, he also includes wrongheaded missionaries and intriguing eyewitness accounts from clipper ship and windjammer voyages. The history of the Yaghan natives such as the "adopted" Jemmy Button and "Fuegia Basket" was wonderfully detailed for the small amount of time spent on them."
"It added in a lot of history of the region and of the natives including the aboriginals - now mostly extinct, unfortunately - who lived there, completely naked in frigid, windy conditions."
"I have rounded the horn before I read this book l am glad i did because the would have given me 2nd thoughts about doing it."
"If you are interested in learning more about Drake's Passage, this is the book for you."

"Also, many of the online map services still don't have our correct road number & address so that people who use them can't easily locate us! Hopefully the newest updated version of The Roads of Texas (with 15,000 corrections...according to MAPSCO) will have made all of the necessary changes."
"It is still very useful, as our gps doesn't have all the backroads and byways mapped still."
"This Atlas has every interstate, four-lane, two-lane, one-lane road and pig trail known to man."
"This is a wonderful book if you enjoy driving the back roads."
"This is the best Road Atlas for finding the back way to wherever you want to go in Texas."
"good map with all the back roads I love to ride."
"Thanks and God Bless y'all for providing this much appreciated product to our family, friends, etc..."
"Shearer Publishing then put together the individual county maps into this flowing atlas booklet format for the first edition of The Roads of Texas in 1989. I have the 2nd edition (1995, Shearer Publishing) which is awesome and very readable, and the 3rd edition (Mapsco). So there are less scenery markings (not good), and way too many graphic effects, for a double-whammy against the atlas."
