(I’m told this is very normal at my age…but still…). I have read a few, more science-y books on Alzheimer’s and dementia. His humor and wit are woven all throughout this book in such a way that it never takes away from the seriousness of the topic and yet, you—the reader—are left with a smile on your face and hope in your heart. However, the other facet of this book is the fount of information just on aging in general. Though his background is in Christianity he also leans toward Buddhism and the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh a Vietnamese monk. (While I personally do not follow Buddhism, and am a very conservative Christian—and all that entails—I am wise enough to know there are wiser men and women than I.). If I can find humor and joy, comfort and peace in all my circumstances, that’s what matters."

This is a grown up version of Helena Frith Powell's "All You Need to be Impossibly French" intended for the over 40 crowd. She briefly explains her move to France for 2 years that morphed into 25 and still going as she met and married a charming French man. She liked how French women around her approached life, and set out to find what they were doing that made them a bit more attractive, different, worth emulating. Entire books are written on the French diet, and her chapter summarizes much of that wisdom, but she gives fresh good advice. Even if you own Helena Frith Powell, Debra Ollivier, Anne Barone, Mireille Guiliano, Jennifer Scott and Marie-Anne LeCoeur you will not be disappointed in this new book. Makes perfect sense since Aspirin is also known as Beta Hydroxy Acid or BHA for short in creams and potions that work at loosening dead skin cells. This one has a few new wrinkles to the whole French diet paradox but for the most part it's common sense and if you've read widely in this subject, it won't be much new. However it's always nice to hear it stated a slightly different way, and she does add a couple of new things from a French nutrition expert. As always, they fit well, show off the body that took so much effort, and announce quietly with conviction that this person maintains her style and chic always."

"I have done low carb in the past and experienced good short term results but this feels different. I purchased the ketosis test sticks on amazon (about $10) and on about my 6th day it was a medium color purple. That's obviously really good (I don't care if its water weight--it is 11 lbs less i'm hauling around), but what is more satisfying is how hunger and cravings go away. I think what helped me get into moderate ketosis is that I cut out all added sugar immediately and all flour. My goal is net 40 grams of carbs, but I'm probably closer to 30grams (I track everything on an online app). My diet has consisted mainly of the following (prepared varioius ways for different meals) eggs, avocado,berries, hemp protein powder, olives, olive oil, mct oil, beef/chicken/fish, macadamia nuts, pumpkin/sunflower seeds riced cauliflower/broccoli, kale/spinach, onions and garlic and spices. I do an 18 hr fast each day (6pm-Noon) and eating as recommended in the book makes it easy."
