Best Interior Upholstery & Fabric Design
Discover the joys of upholstery and bring new life to your worn-out furniture. That gorgeous book, Spruce: A Step-by-Step Guide to Upholstery and Design , officially launched yesterday and is chock-full of beautiful (and helpful) upholstery instructions, illustrated by more than 900 step-by-step photographs. Upholstery has always been daunting to me, but Amanda is an excellent teacher and everything she’s shared in this book will help you master the techniques and skills you need to reupholster any piece of furniture to suit your own taste and style.

Find Best Price at Amazon"Reasons I prefer this book above the rest: The author covers enough different styles of furniture so that you can tackle anything - and shows you how to determine which instructions would be best in her book for different pieces of furniture. The author combines more modern techniques (using foam and pneumatic stapler) with techniques that will help your piece of furniture stand the test of time. The only reason you wouldn't need to buy this book is if you lived in Austin, TX and could take a class from her personally."
"Very handy and provides good information."
"I am a "do-it-yourself" person and really appreciate the different projects in your book."
"That said, I have perused the book (kindle version) and been very impressed with the whole format: instructions, photography, and projects are well presented and detailed."
"This book is excellent."
"Excellent instructions for any furniture project."
"I've been taking an upholstery class with a really great 'old school' instructor teaching exacting and thorough processes."
"LOVE LOVE LOVE this book!"
Rebecca Yaker and Patricia Hoskins offer 101 stylish projects that use a single yard of fabric to make clothes, accessories, baby items, and more. For both novice and accomplished sewers, this spiral-bound guide offers directions that are precisely, clearly, and buoyantly written as the authors share 101 sewing projects requiring only a yard of fabric, including apparel, toys, accessories (human and pet), dresser organizers, and stuffed animals. For each "recipe", the authors, in well-organized fashion, list necessary materials and then take the reader-crafter through clearly numbered, carefully explained directions to create a successful final product.

"cute patterns and designs :)."
"So I thought this book would be a great way to make use of that type of fabric."
"I love all the sewing talk at the beginning--where they explain about french seams, seam rippers, fabric chalk, etc... You can use their patterns for something different than what they say it's for."
"The patterns are well illustrated, the book/package is well put together and the patterns are easy to use, however they have limited use."
"I bought this for my daughter-in-law who sews quite a bit and she said that it had a lot of patterns for things that she had thought about making but didn't have an idea of how to go about it."
"Good book with lots of quick projects."
"Fabric boxes ... really?"
This stunning book showcases distinct uses of pattern in homes all over the country to inspire you to realize that an injection of pattern can enliven any space, helping to make it uniquely yours. Her interest in pattern is deeply rooted in her childhood on Cape Cod and her everyday observations of life in Brooklyn, where she lives with her husband.

"Before purchase of this book, the last thing on my mind was another decorating book, but this book was different."
"This is a wonderful resource filled with insightful writing, beautiful photographs, and sweet painted scenes."
"I looked through it with my mother-in-law and her mother (both very stylish women) and we were in awe of every section."
"I've been following Rebecca's work since she launched her textile company a few years back."
"I'm not usually one to buy books about decorating, but I picked this up on a whim (the cover design was irresistible) and it has given me many happy hours."
"Usually design books over complicate mixing print and patterns and it is never a style that I can understand or ever want for my living spaces."
"While how-to information can be helpful to read, I found the Primer section and the supporting text in the various chapters a bit tedious to read. Having said that, I have read decorating books where the style is different than my own, yet they are so well written that I still find inspiration in reading the chapters, photo captions, and looking at the photos themselves."

Discover the joys of upholstery and bring new life to your worn-out furniture. *Starred Review* It stands to reason that a big, heavily illustrated book of instructions on how to upholster furniture should be as attractive as the finished projects it presents. Amanda Brown from Spruce has been our resident upholstery expert for a while and we were thrilled when she told us she was working on a book. That gorgeous book, Spruce: A Step-by-Step Guide to Upholstery and Design , officially launched yesterday and is chock-full of beautiful (and helpful) upholstery instructions, illustrated by more than 900 step-by-step photographs. Find Best Price at Amazon"I think their ideas are spot on and very much in keeping with what people have time to do and on budget. There are so many creative ways to make a home special without going out and buying thousands of dollars of stuff."
"Most of my excitement flipping through the pages was driven more by the cute captions, glimpses of well known Petersik personnel (Gee, Clara, and Ramsey make appearances for any other YHL enthusiasts out there), and the personal forewards to each chapter, than by the majority of the actual projects. John and Sherry did a fantastic job of categorizing projects by the relative expense, difficulty, and time needed for execution. Most projects, although not all, also include 'in-progress' photos to illustrate difficult steps, such as how to properly fold the corners of fabric when covering a dining room seat or headboard. Other readers have complained about the quality of the pictures inside; I personally found the photo layouts to be well executed, and aside from old childhood photographs, thought the quality to be acceptable."
"However, all of the being collected in one easily accessible resource, along with fresh perspectives and many new ideas, is very helpful to a new homeowner or renter looking to decorate on the cheap!"
"I absolutely recommend this book to anyone who loves DIY projects but doesn't have huge budgets."
