Wicked Newport: Sordid Stories from the City by the Sea
Founded by a small band of religious freedom seekers in 1639, Newport, Rhode Island, subsequently became a bustling colonial seaport teeming with artists, sailors, prosperous merchants and, perhaps most distinctively, the ultra-rich families of the Gilded Age. Larry Stanford, a native of Newport, currently works as an Information Specialist at the Newport Visitors Center.

"Loved reading about some of these people whose names were familiar to me as a young girl growing up."
"Very interesting book about the crime and issues that I saw first hand by growing up in Newport along with many aspects of which I was unfamiliar."
"Great photos, in particular the images of the Newport Rolling Mill, however I was disappointed that the text about the Andrews Steel Plant strike and resulting Federal occupation of Newport did not include information concerning injuries or deaths resulting from the gun battles between Federal troops and citizens as described in the text."
"This is a great book with much detail of Newport,Ky and what caused this city to become "wicked"."
"Their perception of a small city that allowed and even encouraged these vices is partly correct, but they neglect the fact that much of this was helped along by the "upright" godly people of Ohio who used it as their playground."
