By the end of chapter 3 I realized my biggest problem was 3 or 4 simple (but VITAL) steps that I was always missing. PLUS, you'll quickly learn fast & easy shortcuts, multiple ways to do things based on your personal preference &/or needs. Thank You Mathew and all who contributed to creating this wonderful book, it is honestly one of the BEST investments I have made for my office as well as my hobbies. I thought I knew WORD & EXCEL, but I will be buying those books as well, as I'm sure they too will unlock many hidden tools that I can discover and fall in love with."
"It includes all the information the newcomers need, written clearly, with good screen shot illustrations. I found converting databases written in Access 2003 worked smoothly, when I simply looked problems up in the index."
"For example, the author writes "In this example, you'll meet Boutique Fudge, a mail-order company that serves decadent treats to a large audience of chocolate-crazed customers. I would have preferred "Consider a hypothetical company that needs to catalog products and track customers and their orders.""
"Perfect, with the book I figured out what I needed about Access 2007."
"I really needed this."
"It includes good advice about structuring your database, in addition to the technical information you need to make Access do what you want."
"I had originally purchased the Special Edition of Using Microsoft Office Access 2007 because the updated version of Access was significantly different than 2003."
Enterprise database systems with the aid of big data analytics create an intelligent ecosystem by taming and wrangling the data coming from extreme-disparate sources of structured and unstructured channels with massive parallelization techniques to discover, visualize, predict, and action the patterns and trends of mashups of big data. The book delves deeper into the research results of industry relevant case studies with the disruption of in-memory computing platform innovation and machine intelligence that diffuses high-speed computing and dynamic performance for business applications and explores how these modern big data analytics tools shape the future of aerospace, automotive, consumer goods and beverages, healthcare, government services, high tech, and public sector industries with human-centered design. Many industrial research experts believed that it would take two to five years over an extended arc of time for big data to scale along Gartner's Darwinistic hype curve and reach Plateau of Productivity. A broad class of big data appliances such as IBM DB2 Blu DB2 Acceleration, Oracle Exadata In-Memory Machine, and SAP HANA demonstrated the speed, agility, and off-the-charts dynamic performance. The research study explores the big-data appliances to resolve complex business conundrums of organizations in academics, aerospace, automotive, consumer goods and beverages, healthcare, government services, high tech, and public sector industries by diffusing the speed and disruption of in-memory computing. In a data-driven economy, lack of business requirements assessment will lead to continuous usage of traditional RDBMS and ETL tools with limited parallelization capabilities in the organizations addressing big data problems.

"Rating: 5. Reviewer: ThienSi Le. Dr. Pulipaka’s book presents a scholarly research guide for corporations or high-tech organizations to use SAP HANA (Systems, applications, and products – High-performance analytic appliance) for robustly elaborating their big data (D) for meaningful information (I), holistic knowledge (K) and professional wisdom (W). SAP HANA provides an insight of DIKW that will help organizations to conduct of the effective business strategy and achieve four objectives: (a) making a practical and strategic decision, (b) improving business performance, (c) increasing organizational productivity, and (d) gaining and sustaining the competitive edge in the dynamic market locally and globally. In the significance of the study, the author emphasized an evolution of the next generation of big data and how SAP HANA’s research business cases can apply in other industries and guide the future of in-memory computing. Based on the results, techniques to boost performance to ultra-blazing speed, methods to bring data at a real time, and strategic approach to gain the competitive edge can be achieved. The author goes through literature to find urgency of SAP HANA and limitation of the process for faster and higher performance in existing systems. A literature review (LR) finds that a mature SAP HANA can outperform various in-memory database platforms for benchmarks, atomicity and ability to provide predictive analytics. He also performs an overview of other analytical software products such as big data visualization Tableau, business intelligence QlikView, Splunk, and R language. This Chapter concludes the evolution of database giants like SAP HANA, IBM and Oracle Exadata with the issue of choosing either one of these applications by organizations that leads to the present study to explore the big data appliances that disseminate the speed of big data to organizations with awareness, interest, trial, evaluation, and adoption. The author uses a qualitative research method that consists of a highly structured IDC (International Data Corporation) survey with predefined questionnaires on participants around the world. The sample of 759 IT and business managers who likely understand the problem of technological limitations, performance bottleneck to untangle OLAP and OLPT’s data transfer on three research questions with case studies. IDC survey results from many fields and areas that are extracted for data analysis indicate information delays from ad hoc reports to each department in the organizations. Powered by HANA, the SAP NetWeaver BW (Business Warehouse)’s performance is improved in several industries such as beverages, utilities, and automotive. For example, SAP HANA can retrieve 10 years huge data in a couple of seconds, and quickly diagnose and analyze patient records on tablets at the real time. Qualitative results from IDC survey and SAP interviews with its customers focus on performance, information delays in business, and runtime for data movement between the OLTP and OLAP systems to answer three research questions below: Research Question 1: How can SAP HANA speed up the diffusion of big data via awareness, interest evaluation, trial and adoption? SAP HANA with Hadoop and R language integration is potentially used as a smart access platform in a private cloud for co-innovation among big pharma companies for clinical trial development. The study included data movement between OLTP and OLAP with ROI improvement and TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) reduction in organizations and trend in future memory technologies. The research study described how the in-memory computing database platform tool SAP HANA provides a big data enterprise-ready solutions for applications versus other products, e.g., IBM DB2 Blu, and Oracle Exadata. SAP HANA and R language integration for neural network learning algorithms to provide predictive analytics for enterprises in forecasting. Dr. Ganapathi Pulipaka spent two years in a qualitative research study of SAP HANA, a big data high-performance analytical platform for in-memory computing."
"What is great about the book: * Author's vast experience clearly reflects in the book, unlike few pure academics who talk only theory. * Author must have spent a real hard time in getting to know each of the competing products (often using their own terminology, confusing anyone who tries to compare them to their competition). The level of detail he studied them is highly remarkable, as I believe it is impossible for one person to study so many products which are rapidly evolving and changing every 6 months. * The book clearly reflects the author's skill in reconciling disparate things and subject multiple vendor offerings under the same lens of examination - very crucial for a novice who is clueless on where to start and whose advise to follow. Who could get benefit from this book: * Professionals starting their career shift into Big data, Analytics, Business Intelligence, Information Management, Data Science etc. * Academic Researchers wanting to quickly get a grasp on the totality of this space before deciding where they want to do their own in-depth further research. * Technology Evangelists eager to know about new technologies. * IT Managers who are responsible for vendor selection & product evaluation. * CIOs with a desire to transform their IT into. * College students, especially IT branches of Engineering & PG. I am a professional in IT sales, development, research for about 2 decades, sold IBM Puredata System and many IBM Analytics solutions to numerous customers, did multiple university guest lectures on the topics like cognitive computing."

He builds up to the chapter exercises, which I find to be relevant to real-world scenarios a user or admin would encounter. The vast amount of information is extremely well balanced and Sobell manages to present the content without complicated asides and meandering prose. –Mary Norbury, IT Director, Barbara Davis Center, University of Colorado at Denver, from a review posted on slashdot.org. “I had the chance to use your UNIX books when I when was in college years ago at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, CA. It is organized in such a way that the reader can focus on simple tasks without having to wade through more advanced topics until they are ready.”. “This book is a very useful tool for anyone who wants to ‘look under the hood’ so to speak, and really start putting the power of Linux to work. Sobell, on the other hand, outlines very clearly what the command does and then gives several common, easy-to-understand examples that make it a breeze to start shell programming on one’s own. It’s a great book and will stay on the shelf at easy arm’s reach for a long time.”. If you want to really understand how to get things done at the command line, where the power and flexibility of free UNIX-like OSes really live, this book is among the best tools you’ll find toward that end.”. “I am so impressed by how Mark Sobell can approach a complex topic in such an understandable manner. His command examples are especially useful in providing a novice (or even an advanced) administrator with a cookbook on how to accomplish real-world tasks on Linux. “Overall, I think it’s a great, comprehensive Ubuntu book that’ll be a valuable resource for people of all technical levels.”. “The JumpStart sections really offer a quick way to get things up and running, allowing you to dig into the details of the book later.”. “Ubuntu is gaining popularity at the rate alcohol did during Prohibition, and it’s great to see a well-known author write a book on the latest and greatest version. Not only does it contain Ubuntu-specific information, but it also touches on general computer-related topics, which will help the average computer user to better understand what’s going on in the background. “I read a lot of Linux technical information every day, but I’m rarely impressed by tech books. –Matthew Miller, Senior Systems Analyst/Administrator, BU Linux Project, Boston University Officeof Information Technology. “This is well written, clear, comprehensive information for the Linux user of any type, whether trying Ubuntu on for the first time and wanting to know a little about it, or using the book as a very good reference when doing something more complicated like setting up a server. This book’s value goes well beyond its purchase price and it’ll make a great addition to the Linux section of your bookshelf.”. From install to admin, networking, security, shell scripting, package management, and a host of other topics, it is all there. “I have been wanting to make the jump to Linux but did not have the guts to do so–until I saw your familiarly titled A Practical Guide to Red Hat® Linux® at the bookstore. “I am currently reading A Practical Guide to Red Hat® Linux® and am finally understanding the true power of the command line. “Overall, A Practical Guide to Ubuntu Linux® by Mark G. Sobell provides all of the information a beginner to intermediate user of Linux would need to be productive. The inclusion of the Live DVD of the Gutsy Gibbon release of Ubuntu makes it easy for the user to test-drive Linux without affecting his installed OS.

I am a Java programmer so I haven't done a lot of reading in the H&V book, but for anyone who is planning to program in Java with Corba, I highly suggest that you buy this book along with Java programming with Corba 3rd Edition by Brose, Vogel & Duddy which covers some very interesting Corba Services that are not in this book like the Notification service, Trading Service and the PSS."
"I had purchased/checked out other books and with the exception of "Advanced CORBA programming with C++" (which, as the title says, is about C++ only) the other books are just "paper on sale". In order to become a CORBA expert, all you need is these two books and the info at the omg site ."
"I used Henning and Vinoski's book, which I am sure has all the information, but to my mind arranged in a deeply confusing and inefficient manner - for example, the naming service does not appear until page 771, the examples until that point relying on stringified references which no-one would use in practice."
"When you also consider that this book costs a good deal less than the Advanced CORBA book, this is probably the first book of the two you should buy."

Reviews
Find Best Price at Amazon"For the html page to work you have to do this or change the script src to " script src="thumbnails.js"."
"It seemed like they tried to make everything easy with lots of pix, in point of fact the concepts are STILL very difficult and having the candy coating actually was more confusing to me."
"But I feel this book has given me enough basic concepts of Ajax (and also some general web design concepts) that I can use Ajax libraries without breaking anything unintentionally. I don't think I will read another book on Ajax unless I am doing some custom Ajax coding."
"Head First Ajax by Rebecca Riordan is by far the best introduction to AJAX I've yet to encounter--and possibly the most lucid web development book I have read thus far! Head First AJAX beautifully clarifies a lot of JavaScript concepts, like how to traverse the Dom, how to insert multiple event handlers, and how to validate forms in addition to providing insight on synchronous requests and (asynchronous) AJAX. (Although JQuery, PHP, and MySQL are not vital to getting to know AJAX, knowing at least some PHP and MySQL can help advance the readers' understanding on the server side component of AJAX). However, in reality, the reader will need to at least know some basic PHP for understanding what type of data can be sent back to the callback function (to clarify, a callback function is indicated in the Javascript code as the function to utilize the returned PHP data). I haven't read the Head First PHP and MySQL book, but, after reading Head First AJAX, I certainly plan on doing so. Head First AJAX may be considered the most helpful book in the entire spectrum of Web development books I have read thus far."
"But it also delves deeply into javascript, CSS, and the DOM, with many examples of the best way to write the code."
"This book is terribly outdated now."
"Then I would read this book."
"with that said, the "head first style" grows old the further you go along in the book with a strong want for real code examples without all the goofy stuff."

Ideal for any IT professional who uses Cisco technologies on a daily basis, or anyone who is preparing for their Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification. The topics covered will be more in depth than other introductory-level books of similar topics, and will span from layer 2 technologies such as switching, STP, etherchannel, and trunking, all the way to application layer security topics such as firewall inspection and intrusion prevention systems. If you're a network professional using Cisco routers or switches, or are currently preparing for your CCNP certification, this in-depth book is the ideal choice to help you broaden your skills in key areas you face in a typical day on the job. It thoroughly explores routing and switching, application layer security, common routing protocols, redundancy protocols, voice and wireless devices, and much more. Maintain security for your internetwork-exploring Layer 2 and Layer 3 devices.

Find Best Price at Amazon"I bought this book to help me study for the Cisco Certified Network Professional exams."
"However, this work comes pretty close - any closer and the book would be too heavy to lift - offering an excellent examination of routing and switching protocols, security, wireless, and QoS. The author's decade of experience as an IT instructor is evident in these pages; in first person voice, he leads the reader through a case study of a fictitious multinational's network infrastructure, building outward from the campus LAN to the enterprise edge."
"It's definitely a keeper for its extensive description of Cisco's product lines for working with the programming and network diagrams. As a desktop support technician, I rarely had any use of it except to learn what my supervisor might be doing at work."
"Spanning tree is still the most boring topic in layer 2 switching, but unfortunately it is absolutely essential that Network Professionals have a solid understanding of how to work with and design networks in terms of spanning tree. Chapter 8, Multicast - With the growing demand for video and voice on networks, Multicast routing is a needed in order to keep bandwidth utilization and overhead under control. This book really just scratches the surface of what current controller based wireless systems are capable of (only a half page on mesh networking?, KILLING me here), but the chapter does cover the CCNP exam topics in the required level of detail. A main function of the book is clearly to act as a study guide for the CCNP Exams, but "CCNP" or "Study Guide" is nowhere in the title."

In addition, the book presents RMON 1 and RMON 2 enhancements, looking at statistics collection, alarms, and filters, as well as the extensions to RMON 1 for RMON 2 devices. Gone are the days when an organization would rely on a single vendor and a relatively straightforward architecture to support its needs. Today's typical organization has a large and growing but amorphous architecture, with a variety of local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs), supported by bridges and routers, and a variety of distributed computing services and devices, including PCs, workstations, and servers. Fundamental to the operation of such tools and applications in a multivendor environment are standardized techniques for representing and exchanging information relating to network management. In response to these needs, managers and users have turned overwhelmingly to one standard: SNMP and the related RMON specification. Part I of the book is a survey of network management technology and techniques, to enable the reader to place the various vendor offerings into the context of his or her requirements. Part II presents the original SNMP family of standards, which is still the most widely deployed version. I would also like to thank the following reviewers, who generously provided feedback on part or all of the second edition: K. K. Ramakrishnan of AT&T, Russell Dietz of Technically Elite Concepts, Ravi Prakash of FTP Software, Ole Jacobsen of Cisco, Cliff Baker of the Research Libraries Group, Sandra Durham of Cisco, and Ian Taylor of Cygnus. In addition, I am grateful to the people who reviewed the original proposal for this book, and an early draft: Lyman Chapin of BBN, Radia Perlman of Novell, Glen Glater and Christopher Heigham of Midnight Networks, and Peter Schmidt of Midnight Networks.

"This is a complete book for reader to understand the SNMP protocol, it is very helpful."
"Good reference for SNMP."
"The chapters are ordered chronologically, the text can thus be read from front to back, starting with the simple assumptions and basic operations of v1, leading to the more complex issues of the v3 security model. I had a hard time reading it, as some of the concepts are not explained very well and because of a lack of a good overview of SNMP, its protocols and the information model. Some simple concepts are illustrated and described well but in a repetitive manner, and some of the more advanced features of SNMP are not covered well, or are hidden somewhere within a generic section, e.g. table augments."
"However, technical writing has moved forward since then or at least I have read a lot more technical books, and when given the choice of a Stallings book or a book by another author, I would check out the other author first."
"I have developed SNMP applications for 10 years now (I currently work on an SNMP development toolkit, in a group with one of the authors of the v3 RFCs)--the first edition of this was the first book on SNMP that I read and it's still the most comprehensive."
"I think that the author wants to make the book more difficult to read because he wants the readers to think that it is thorough. A more direct approach is required and I would welcome a book which makes things more simple."
