"A. fantastic journey into the science of the human heart and one heroic doctor who repairs and replaces them." ". From the very first page right up to the climactic ending, this book will entertain you with the real life wit, humor, and drama." Dr. G, as she's known, is one of only nine women in the U.S. sub-specialty board certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgeons to do what she's about to do -- take a scalpel sharper than a dozen razors, cut through eleven-month old Claudia's skin, saw open her breastbone and spread her ribcage apart in order to repair congenital defects threatening a malformed heart the size of a walnut. I've been a volunteer at Children's Medical Center in Dallas for 20 years, and I got to know Dr. Guleserian in a very casual fashion, seeing her give a couple of lectures and things. Surgeons, nurses, scrub techs, perfusionists, anesthesiologists, all work like a well drilled football team, or a perfectly synchronized ballet company. After setting the scene, Oristano introduces some of the harrowing stories of Guleserian's patients, all young children who've suffered due to debilitating heart conditions. He interviews their families about their experiences, and one mother sums up the attitude of many parents of sick children when she wonders how to thank the woman who "literally saved your child's life." Oristano weaves these threads together to create a book that's both a biography and an in-depth look at the lives of patients and families who spend most of their time in hospitals, and who put all their hopes and fears in the hands of others. The book combines Oristano's vivid and lively descriptions of Dr. Guleserian with her own reflections on her life, her medical training, her career, and above all, the full range of her emotions as she performs various extremely delicate operations on children who otherwise would almost certainly not survive.

"Mark Oristano's fantastic journey into the science of the human heart and one heroic doctor who repairs and replaces them, "Surgeons Story," is an emotionally moving and awe-inspiring look into the daily magic and miracles performed in the Pediatric Heart Intensive Care Unit at Children's Medical Center in Dallas. The result of this in-depth look at life in the operating rooms of Children's Medical is a stunning and immensely dedicated group of professionals who save lives like some mechanics change oil and a portrait of a passionate and truly human heart surgeon who may not make headlines, but does God's work under a very bright light. For readers of Henry Marsh's Do No Harm , Paul A. Ruggieri's Confessions of a Surgeon , and Atul Gawande's Better, a pioneering surgeon shares memories from a life in one of surgery’s most demanding fields The 1980s marked a revolution in the field of organ transplants, and Bud Shaw, M.D., who studied under Tom Starzl in Pittsburgh, was on the front lines. “This is just about the best book about surgery and a surgeon I have ever read—by surgeon or civilian alike. “This darkly fascinating and ruthlessly honest memoir charts the highs and lows of a transplant surgeon’s life from bright-eyed junior to wise veteran with humor, intelligence and compassion.”— Wendy Moore , author of The Knife Man.

The patients and families ALL wanted to have his ear for just a moment to thank him for all he did and that was a lot of people. For those who want to cast stone I would ask you to try to walk in his shoes for just one moment and remeber - he is one fine, talented incredible human being."
"Great collection of vignettes from the life of a surgeon."
"Bud Shaw writes as well as he performed liver transplant surgery - brilliantly."
"It was a glimpse into the sometimes impossibly exhausting life of an organ transplant surgeon's life, both the miraculous second chances and the terrible intra-operative failures."
"When you realize that even a world class surgeon struggled with getting competent care for his father it helps you realize no one is immune to incompetence when it come to health care."
"Extraordinarily vivid and honest account of life in the operating room and beyond by one of the world's leading transplant surgeons."
"Dr. Shaw tells his amazing story without a hint of artifice or pedantry."
"Regardless, it made for great reading. I would have enjoyed reading a more linear memoir/autobiography as well, but that's not what this is."

"And listen to it, because it knows what it needs to be healthy, and it knows what’s good for you. Instead of urging me listen to an authority figure speaking from on high about what I need to do for my body, this book takes a totally different approach. This book teaches me to understand that the ultimate authority on what is good for my body is my body itself... and teaches me how to listen to the wisdom my body wants to share with me. I don’t need to consult a book to know what those are (not even this book). In fact, this book doesn’t give you a standard list of foods you “should” eat at all... because the book’s whole point is that YOUR BODY will tell you what it needs to eat. And indeed, I know very well what my body does and doesn’t need to eat, but I hadn’t been listening because what I knew didn’t match with what “experts” were saying I SHOULD eat. This book will take you on a journey in which you will learn that your body is not the enemy, a foe to be subdued."
"I like the author's simple and direct manner in giving us this advice."
"I recommend it for anyone interested in cleaning up their diet in a sane manner using food one actually enjoys!"
"If you have any sort of health issue, you may find something in this book that will help."
"With a wealth of information, she builds the case for listening to your body and covers the gamut, including such topics as your brain, drugs, GMO vs. organic foods, detoxification, meditation, use of affirmations, exercise, drinking pure water, being in the outdoors, and getting healthy."
"This book made me look at my nutrition choices and my body differently and more consentiously."
"The author definitely took the time to go within the self and discover how to be guided not by what the world tells you to do, but by what one's own body needs."

This book addresses the problem of myofascial trigger points—tiny contraction knots that develop in a muscle when it is injured or overworked. The new edition also includes postural assessments and muscle tests, an illustrated index of symptoms, and clinical technique drawings and descriptions to assist both practitioners and regular readers in assessing and treating trigger points. ―Bernie S. Siegel, MD, author of Love, Medicine, and Miracles and Prescriptions for Living and former student of Janet Travell, MD, author of Travell & Simons’ Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction: The Trigger Point Manual. The detail and clarity of the book’s format will also make it invaluable to pain physicians who want to be able to teach their patients useful, simple strategies to manage soft tissue pain problems." ―Scott M. Fishman, MD, chief of the Division of Pain Medicine in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of California, Davis and author of The War on Pain. I believe this book, revealing that trigger point therapy may safely relieve chronic pain, should be in the hands of every doctor." "Trigger point massage therapy may be the most effective treatment known for a wide variety of pain problems, including fibromyalgia and myofascial pain syndrome." "As a chiropractor for twelve years and an instructor of trigger point therapy at the Utah College of Massage Therapy for ten years, I found the Davies’ book very accurate and complete.

Find Best Price at Amazon"Then late Dec 2012 - PT is great until one rushed day when she stretched my right leg too far too fast. I tried everything over the next few months - acupuncture, chiropractor, spine drs, orthopedist, physiatrist, neurologist, steroid shot, supplements, stretching, walking through the pain, ice, heat, epsom salt baths 3+ times a day, etc etc. I used to run, bike 40 miles a week, garden, now I was reduced to a cane and suggestions of back surgery in less than a couple of months of being in great shape and NO pain?? So I was going through a review of what, I do not remember, maybe a supplement that might alleviate pain, and it mentions looking into trigger point therapy. I come home and my husband comes out to help me, worried that I am going to be in a bad place pain wise. For low back pain, your glutes carry some heavy duty trigger points. It's is some work to keep up with all the trigger points that crop up but I do it while watching TV or listening to music. BTW, if you stretch a tired or cold muscle too fast/too hard it can set off a trigger point. If I had known about trigger point therapy, I could have saved myself from a year of hell on me and my family, as well as the bills. I recommend a cleaner diet, exercise, fresh air and constant movement versus just sitting. Excessive sitting and lying around make soft tissue pain worse. I love Tiger Balm for night time stiffness or to help get your circulation going on a painful spot. There are also some good videos and a Ted Talk on the science of pain in the brain that are worth watching. I took a nasty fall on my bike last week and was totally panicked, as I have not fully recovered from this past year's trauma. I got into the habit of using the lacrosse ball and it works well, but I started to get more pain in the hips & tightness in lower back. YouTube has many instructional videos on how to work out TrP if the book is too technical or if you need a visual. You have to be careful with the QL muscles (most of us have TrPs there but don't know it until you get in there with a small TrP ball) or you might cause back spasms. I had a chiropractor overwork my QL's and set off a horrific week of spasms before I discovered TrP therapy. I joined a gym for the 1st time in a decade to get me through this hard Boston winter and was surprised how many people at the gym were ending their workouts with trigger point therapy methods - rolling out on balls or foam rollers, trainers using them on clients, etc. )I have found great pain release from working these hard to reach glute points. For some women in major hormone flux it can be severe enough for you to be diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome or fibromyalgia. Yes there are some true cases of those diseases that are not related to hormones or trigger points, but there are also women being misdiagnosed & sent home with RX's for anti-depressants & way too strong pain meds. A balanced - KEY WORD IS BALANCED - hormone therapy (like bio hormone replacements) as well as exercise, diet, TrP, and improved digestion (which diminished greatly around 40-45 in women) will make a difference in your pain levels.I am working with a gifted endocrinologist who tests my blood 2x a month so we can get the best picture how to manage my perimenopause. I do not have CFS or fibromyalgia, but I do notice that trigger points crop up more often now that my blood tests reveal I am primenopausal. I travel with 2 sizes of balls when I fly so that I can roll out those knots that can happen after being cramped on a plane. *UPDATE* August 31, 2016. I am still actively and successfully using TrP therapy to manage my low back, as well as misc aches and pains that crop up. About 3 times a week I spend a half hour or more with my super bounce rubber ball and a concrete wall. I ruptured my L4-L5 disc in my late 20's, which puts my low back at a higher risk for aches and pain when I sit too long on something soft, or work too hard in the garden. Before I found this therapy, I used to get so tight, manage my aches with Advil, and wait for it to pass, usually a few days. Now that I know what to do, I roll out my calf trigger points right away & find relief within a day. I wish physical therapists would introduce a home regimen of TrP in addition to the exercise plan for recovery and relief. Just an interesting anecdote - JK Rowling (author of Harry Potter series for the handful of those that might not know) has tweeted this year about having back pain that feels better when she digs into it with the corner of her sofa."
"I'm from Argentina so excuse me if I make some mistakes in writing this English since it is not my native language. Today I was recommending the Trigger Point Therapy to some friends over facebook, so looking for the link, I found the website, and suddenly I remembered. Years back I was diagnosed with a small, tiny displacement of a vertebra on my neck. I found a book about TMJ self treatments, and Amazon had an offer for the Trigger Point Therapy along with this one. And thanks to the AMAZING illustrations (I'm a graphic designer, so I can testify on their perfection) I decided to begin searching for the trigger point. My neck was feeling like before the roller coaster ride, I felt perfectly healthy and good. Every time myself or a family member experience this type of pain, I take my book out and teach them how to treat it."
"It is not a cure all, and definitely won't work for everything, but if you were buy one book on the subject of eliminating your musculoskeletal pain, this is it."
"Very helpful locating source of and relieving actual pain."
"One can gain both a broad and detailed understanding of Trigger Points including causation of pain, source vs. actual location of pain, and various manner of therapeutic treatment approaches and options."
"really good info!"
"Excellent book, however much too technical for me and probably for most people who need help with modalities."

I read the online preview and started the diet protocol while waiting for the book to arrive. For the first week my energy was very low but now it is better than ever, staying level throughout the day to the point that I have cut out caffeine as well and feel no need for it."
"I did not do any hydrotherapy or home enemas, but I did a 2-day apple cleanse, cut out all sugar, white flour, nightshades and coffee, and began a regime of Slippery Elm Bark tea in the mornings and lemon water throughout the day. Since then, I have stayed 100% off nightshades but have reintroduced very limited quantities of white flour, sugar and decaf black coffee. A couple notes: ** I found sea salt baths to be helpful as my body healed itself. ** I used a topical prescription treatment to help speed things along (Clobex spray), but I plan to stop using it in the next week or so as I get closer to 100% clear. ** I found Burt's Bees Miracle Salve to be a great product for my nipples. I have since switched to the adult version of Burt's Bees Shampoo and think the gentle formula has been a welcome change for my scalp as it heals. I couldn't commit to the whole list due to personal preference and breastfeeding, but I have been taking 1000mg Flaxseed Oil, 200mg Milk Thistle, a pre/post-natal multi-vitamin (contains Zinc and Vitamin A), and 100mg Colace (stool softener). Pizza has been hard to give up, but when your skin clears up like mine did, you won't feel too bad about missing out on a slice."
"I just started the program, the book has one thing that is worth the effort and the money, and that is HOPE & FAITH that the plan works based on so many of the testimonials."
"I continue to look for books that can do the same justice for those who suffer with psoriasis and there are just no equals to Dr. Pagano's book "Healing Psoriasis"."
"I don't think diet has 100% to do with psoriasis, but it does make it about 75% better if I adhere to it."
"Dr John Pagano's "Healing Psoriasis.." book is a godsend for those suffering with psoriasis and are sick of dealing with an endless cycle of expensive medications. But I suggest jumping off the medication rollercoaster, read Pagano's book and heal yourself naturally."

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER. “As sweet and funny and sad and true and heartfelt a memoir as one could find.” —from the foreword by Augusten Burroughs Ever since he was young, John Robison longed to connect with other people, but by the time he was a teenager, his odd habits—an inclination to blurt out non sequiturs, avoid eye contact, dismantle radios, and dig five-foot holes (and stick his younger brother, Augusten Burroughs, in them)—had earned him the label “social deviant.” It was not until he was forty that he was diagnosed with a form of autism called Asperger’s syndrome. *Starred Review* If one looked at only Robison's impish sense of humor (he once ordered a blow-up sex doll to be delivered to his junior-high-school teacherat school), or his success as a classic-car restorer, it might be impossible to believe he has the high-functioning form of autism spectrum disorder called Asperger's syndrome. Clues abound, however, in his account of a youth encompassing serious inability to make and keep friends; early genius at pyrotechnics, electronics, and math; and pet names such as Poodle for his dog and Snort and Varmint for his baby brother.

"In “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks,” Rebecca Skloot introduces us to the “real live woman,” the children who survived her, and the interplay of race, poverty, science and one of the most important medical discoveries of the last 100 years. Skloot narrates the science lucidly, tracks the racial politics of medicine thoughtfully and tells the Lacks family’s often painful history with grace. When science appears, it does so effortlessly, with explanations of cell anatomy or techniques like “fluorescence in situ hybridization” seamlessly worked into descriptions of the coloured wards of Johns Hopkins hospital to Lacks’s hometown of Clover, Virginia. And yet for all its grand scope, skilful writing and touching compassion, there is one simple element that makes As a final thought, I was struck by the parallels between Henrietta’s cells and her story."
"This decisive, detailed, superbly written history of the HeLa cells that have played such a highly significant role in many arenas of medical research delves deeply into both the scientific and personal stories of Henrietta Lacks and her family."
"A legacy, kept hidden for over 20+ years from Henrietta Lack's family and those of us,who are not privy to the inner circles of the medical and science community."
"Skloot did a terrific job spending years gathering information from the family and researching scientific discoveries related to the cells."
"Incredible true story of a woman's legacy, from the usage of her DNA without consent, to the medical miracles her stolen contribution made, to the injustices her family faced decades later."
"The book, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks was a very interesting and informative read."
"One of the most amazing books I have ever read."

I've tried treating the yeast infection with antibiotics, a watered down hydrogen peroxide douche, and boric acid suppositories. I use 1 liter of water to 2 TB sea salt and pour it over a mixture of chopped veggies and let it sit on my counter for 7 days. I also purchased water kefir granules 2 years ago from an online shop that only sells that and they are still healthy and creating wonderful drinks. Teas with flavored stevias (specifically vanilla cream) and my recipe for homemade healthy kettle corn has helped me greatly."

Best Hearing Problems
By turns heart-tugging and hilarious, Myron Uhlberg’s memoir tells the story of growing up as the hearing son of deaf parents—and his life in a world that he found unaccountably beautiful, even as he longed to escape it. “Does sound have rhythm?” my father asked. These worlds come together in this work, his first for adults, as Uhlberg, who has written several children's books (including Dad, Jackie, and Me , which won a 2006 Patterson Prize) effortlessly weaves his way through a childhood of trying to interpret the speaking world for his parents while trying to learn the lessons of life from the richly executed Technicolor language of his father's hands.

The love in this book is nearly overwhelming - from the initial lack from their parents and then the author fills in the blanks from stories told so beautifully its as if you can see them playing before you in your own kitchen."
"It is a great book."
"Having been a French teacher for forty years I really enjoyed the author's detailed description of how beautiful and more descriptive sign language is than spoken languages are."
"I am deaf myself, this book helped me understand better what my children has been through even though we live in different times."
"As an ASL II student I found this story well told and very emotional."
"This is a story told by a virtually unknown master with a mighty heart, as well as an ability to craft the truth with the precision ordinarily discounted by the very use of language. A tale of a kid from Brooklyn, born during the darkest years of the Great Depression to a deaf Mom and Pop becomes a parable for the most universal, heartfelt yearnings, ambivalence and imaginings of which human consciousness is capable. As an infant born to two deaf parents the majesty of life, sound, linguistic nuance and sign language have been fused with a gifted story teller's mind to create one of the great surprises of my reading experience."
"To see the world through the eye's of a child of deaf parents is to see the world like no other."

This book introduced me to two concepts that were critical: Functional medicine, and Hashimoto's Gluten sensitivity. This led to several significant changes. The second came when I started looking for functional medicine doctors in Austin, TX and following the supplementation suggestions put forward in this book. Empty Stomach (AM): - Licorice drops. - Probiotic. - Saccharomyces Boulardii. Lunch: - Glutamine. - Methyl B12 (my Dr suspects a MTHFR gene mutation; regular B12 wasn't helping but this works great). - NAC. - Zinc (this was huge for me; gave me lots more energy). - Selenium. Bedtime: - Magnesium. - CoQ10. - Probiotic. - Fish Oil w/vitamin D. Many of these don't have to be taken with food and the order could be switched up. I'd recommend chatting with your doctor about lab work for vitamin deficiencies and reading Dr. Wentz's supplement guide."
"I've read the Stop The Thyroid Madness site, Mary Shamon's thyroid-info website, Dr. Alexander Haskell's book, Dr. Datiz Kharrazian's book and his diet recommendations, read what Jack Kruse has to say... I've looked into the GAPS diet, the paleo diet, the autoimmune paleo diet, and researched intestinal permeability and how to heal it. I'm so thrilled to have this book, it still seems too good to be true! :). I would suggest though, if there is ever a second printing, and an updated version, that the author include more advice/info on finding a good functional/integrative/holistic Dr. to work with, which testing is available and from which labs, how to navigate testing solo or with your Dr., etc."

The New York Times bestselling guide to the lifesaving diet that can both prevent and help reverse the effects of heart disease Based on the groundbreaking results of his twenty-year nutritional study, Prevent. and Reverse Heart Disease by Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn illustrates that a plant-based, oil-free diet can not only prevent the progression of heart disease but can also reverse its effects. Caldwell Esselstyn has directed pioneering research demonstrating that the progression of even severe coronary heart disease can often be reversed by making comprehensive change in diet and lifestyle.“. —Dean Ornish, M.D, founder, president and director of Preventive Medicine Research Institute and author of Dr. Dean Ornish’s Program for Reversing Heart Disease. His focus on the healing powers of proper nutrition on diseased coronary arteries has now proven right, raising another unthinkable notion—that heart patients can cure themselves.”. —Bernadine Healy, M.D., former Director of the National Institutes of Health. “A hard nosed scientist shows us his secrets for successfully cleaning the rusting arteries of so many patients - and it doesn't even hurt.”. —Mehmet Oz, M.D., coauthor, You: The Owner’s Manual. Based on decades of research, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn has shown not only how to prevent heart disease, but how to reverse it-even for people who have been affected for many years. "I have a gym in my garage, with pull-up tower and padded floor and TV/DVD player. In other words, I was in pretty good shape and thought I was OK. On April 8, 2013, I had just finished exercising. I noticed a slight numbness in my left arm. Told my wife to take me to the new heart hospital, conveniently located about 1 1/2 miles from my house. 45 minutes after walking into the ER, I was being wheeled into my room with 2 stents installed. The Cardiologist said that in my main artery, towards the center of my chest, I had 100% blockage. In the other main artery, on the other side of my heart, there is 50% blockage. I went to Amazon and looked for books on cardiovascular disease. My wife and I read the reviews and decided to give it a try. Since we started the plant eating lifestyle, she doesn't have stomach aches anymore. A friend of mine watched the Forks Over Knives documentary with his parents and they all decided to try it. At the start of the plant diet, his blood sugar was 253. After one week of plant eating he dropped 120 points! It works Yesterday my Cardiologist said that I am doing so great that he doesn't need to see me for 6 months!"
"Using the information in Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease, I now eat a plant-based diet, which I've been on for a couple of months now. My rule of thumb is this: If it had a mother and a father (beef, chicken, turkey, fish, etc. Since I've been eating plant-based foods only -- and there's a LOT to choose from -- my blood pressure has dropped, I've lost about 14 pounds, I sleep far more soundly, my thinking is clearer, I have more energy, etc. UPDATE: I've now lost 20 pounds, and another blood draw revealed that my cholesterol level has dropped 30 points."
"More people should read it before they find themselves needing to go to the doctor."
"Extreme diet for those with heart disease, can be followed rigorously by those who want to prevent heart disease (in my opinion)."
"My husband picked this book up while in the doctors office and began to read it, when we got home he ask if I would order him a copy."

Find Best Price at Amazon"About a year ago I had a doctor insist that I needed to go back to PT with the purpose of developing and implementing a full-body strengthening program. I begrudgingly went because he wouldn't drop it and lucked into seeing someone who understands connective tissue disorders and how to go about treating them. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to work on a full body preventative strengthening program because we have been dealing with multiple injuries. Negative: * The author makes it clear in his introduction that you are to use this book with a physical therapist. * He is also adamant that you need to follow the protocol of progression of exercises exactly, without skipping around to address things that hurt NOW (chronic injuries). On some level I understand this reasoning because dealing with a long string of chronic and new injuries is what has prevented me from figuring out a whole body program with my PT. As a patient, I think there needs to be a balance between keeping the chronic injuries under control and working on the preventative. To reach more people the author went through and also included a translation into normal person speak. In addition to the quality of the pictures, the model is wearing a baggy shirt and shorts that obscures his knees and elbows. * He states that you need to have a geneticist diagnose hypermobile EDS and then after the diagnosis you start the protocol and assemble your team. Those specialists did things and gave me information that immediately improved my quality of life. He gives instructions to the physical therapist on how they need to modify massage and mobilization techniques to avoid accidentally injuring you. I am going to have my PT double check my form on the exercises before I start doing them at home and I do plan to work through the protocol as it is written."

Most things would work for a short period of time (a few days to a few months, in the case of Botox, acupuncture, and chiropractic). In a moment of frustration, I put up a post on Facebook about how tired I was of these headaches interfering with my life; a friend responded with a link to this book. I started reading this book at home on a Saturday night of a week of bad headaches. I finally felt like someone out there believed what kind of pain I was in, in addition to 'odd' symptoms I was having (balance problems, inability to concentrate, bizarre feelings like my left arm was not part of my body, etc.). Once you start feeling relief, you realize following the diet is not much of a price to pay for getting your life back. Also, I have stopped feeling angry at my body and at the world for this suffering I've gone through - which is a big stress relief in itself."
"I purchased the 123 heal your headache book after years of terrible daily migraine pain. I followed the book as well as I could; the diet part is rather difficult and apparently I have no self control when it comes to food. I started feeling the same way and started eating what I wanted although the MSG part of the diet had become second nature, I am an avid label reader anyway. I am still on some medications to help prevent migraines and I am still VERY sesitive, but I am NOT suffering like I had been before reading this book."

Lastly, I enjoy her writing tone which makes it easier to read and take in all the health info. Other things that I appreciate in this book- Tia Tips and a look into common health topics like GMOs, dairy and calcium, iodine in table salt. Now, I haven't tried any recipes yet and I will be updating my review after I do, but they all look good, healthy and I hope they are tasty."

After that, I just skimmed until I found the one chapter talking about recovery in very general terms, such as it took her 4-5 years before she could add and subtract again. I gave the book to my mom who is apparently finding it more interesting than me."
"This is an amazing true account of a brain scientists journey during and after she experienced a stoke."
"This short book gave me such great insights into the nature of our brains and the way these brains and the hemispheres enable us to interact with the world around us."
"Good book to help one understand the tragedy of a stroke and how we need to be very caring for those people and understand what they are going through."
"Jill Bolt Taylor walks you through her stroke, & it's aftermath in such fine, detailed language you will feel it!as if you lived it."
"An exciting read, by a brain scientist -- her life-affirming first-hand account of her recovery from a severe stroke, from the first symptoms through recovery... the wonders of the human spirit, the survival instinct, and the workings of the human brain."
"Fascinating bio!"
"My sister had a brain tumor removed in 2005 & I have found several similarities in the recoveries you both experienced."
Best Parkinson's Disease
Now, with the same passion, humor, and energy that Fox has invested in his dozens of performances over the last 18 years, he tells the story of his life, his career, and his campaign to find a cure for Parkinson's. Combining his trademark ironic sensibility and keen sense of the absurd, he recounts his life--from his childhood in a small town in western Canada to his meteoric rise in film and television which made him a worldwide celebrity. He talks about what Parkinson's has given him: the chance to appreciate a wonderful life and career, and the opportunity to help search for a cure and spread public awareness of the disease. The Foundation will move aggressively to identify the most promising research and raise the funds to assure that a cure is found for the millions of people living with this disorder. The same sharp intelligence and self-deprecating wit that made Michael J. Fox a star in the Family Ties TV series and Back to the Future make this a lot punchier than the usual up-from-illness celebrity memoir.

"As someone who has an incurable degenerative muscle disorder, I could relate so much to Michael and his struggles described in this book."
"Fantastic book and highly recommended with a poisitive message to his readers. Now that he allowed us to have an insight into his inner world, it was amazing to see what he could do to make things go right and to an end phenomena of a positive point despite his condition. Which show how much his self determinism view, is so important and above all that he was willing to sacrifice his life. The language he uses is literate and reading his book is very enjoyable, leaving us with a message of, no mercy, but "one can always do something about it"."
"I was diagnosed with MS about 5 years ago and I find such a connection with Michael J Fox and his struggle to come to terms with his disease."
"Meant to read this long ago, bought it for my kindle when it first released."
"He feels that he has grown so much in a positive way from his post Parkinson's diagnosis experiences. I only got it because it was the cheap Kindle deal of the day and thought it would be an interesting read. I remember when I first saw him on the show (it was the episode where he made some great investments in the stock market) that I thought he did have "something." He makes you feel like you kind of know him and as a result you are curious about his other performances."
"If anyone is hesitant to purchase the book on the basis of Michael's inclusion of.... curse words **gasp** I feel like they serve to make Michael's already strong narrative voice even more so, not to mention authentic."
"Michael J."

And (unlike other Lupus books) anyone who treats Lupus patients--as a physician or nurse--should also read it. I do like that Dr. Thomas has not watered down his book as other physicians do, and that he assumes that Lupus patients can choose to read those sections or not."
"This book has incredible detail and as much as I've learned about lupus over the years, this book taught me things I never knew."
"Filled with everything you need to know about lupus and how to fight it."
"Great to those diagnosed and their family members."
"Wow, total comprehensive guide."

"Well-written and thorough about the disease and how to deal with it with lifestyle changes and supplements."

"I'm never hungry, I get to eat all kinds of meats and cheeses and veggies, and I don't even bother counting calories. The supplements he recommends have made an almost instant difference - my nails are stronger and growing long, my skin is better, and my overall mood is vastly improved."
"It changed everything I thought I knew about food and its relationship to health. You just eat what’s good for you: Fat - lots of it, meats, vegetables, eggs, cheese, salads, nuts, seeds (my new favorite snack is Pepitas, which they have at Publix). I eat a lot less than I used to because I’m getting enough fat in my diet, and not stuffing myself with useless breads, crackers, chips, and pasta – which just make me hungrier and hungrier. What I’ve gained are increased energy, lots less brain fog, joints moving better (do not hurt all the time), less headaches – a LOT less, tummy troubles are now non-existent, and before, I was always gaseous or had diarrhea, or just was hurting in general. My labs were checked in February, after just two months, and my doc was blown away. I was no longer in the diabetic range and my liver functions had normalized. He also has a good website with a lot of articles to read: [...] If you want your health back, it’s time to read, Grain Brain!"
"It is a sobering read, but is a must read if you are interested in maintaining good brain health and avoiding diseases such as Type II Diabetes, as well as potentially significantly reducing the risk of developing dementia and other brain disease."
"I overheard a couple of fellow Bikram yoginis discussing Dr. Perlmutter's current book "Brain Maker," and I decided to order both books."
"This book has answered what I haven't gotten from other Drs.. My skin is dry and hair thining, I truly needed more fat in my diet and now see that grains were my problem and low fat has starved my body of needed oils...."
"As Mark Twain commented on New England weather, "If you don't like the weather just wait a minute, it'll change," it seems the same holds true for medical/health research studies."

Find Best Price at Amazon"I saw three endocrinologists, three GPs, two neurologists, numerous chiropractors and massage therapists, two acupuncturists, and even a life coach and hypnotist (pretty much any health related professional whose bio suggested they might be able to help).
