For over 20 years, On Becoming Babywise has been the de facto newborn parenting manual for naturally synchronizing your baby's feeding time, waketime and nighttime sleep cycles, so the whole family can sleep through the night. Practical discussions then focus on broad and niche topics including feeding philosophies, baby sleep problems, baby scheduling challenges, nap routines, sleep training multiples, baby sleeping props, Colic and Reflux and many other dimensions which impact breast feeding schedules, bottle feeding tips and baby sleep training. 1) Taking care of baby and mom. 2) A timeline of what to expect and when. 3) Baby Sleep Training Problems and Solutions. 4) Monitoring Your Baby's Growth. 5) Healthy Baby Growth Charts. It can help any parent develop a plan that meets both the needs of a new baby and of the entire family. Instead of being in baby bondage, I was liberated to be the mother God wanted me to be. We highly recommend ONLY purchasing the newest and most current version of On Becoming Babywise (isbn 1932740139). In becoming one of America's leading infant management guides, On Becoming Babywise has continued to improve its methods and practices throughout its 24 years and this latest version is the result of all the best over the last two decades. and co-author Gary Ezzo in this book helps parents successfully and naturally synchronize their baby's feeding time, waketime and nighttime cycles. Happy, healthy and contented babies who sleep through the night on average between seven and nine weeks of age. The best evaluation of any parenting philosophy, including Babywise, is not found in the reasoning or the logic of the hypothesis. Rather, our larger objective is to help prepare minds for the incredible task of raising a child. Your baby will not care if his head rests on designer sheets or beside Disney characters, nor is your success tied to his wardrobe or bedroom accessories, but rather to the beliefs and convictions that will eventually shape your parenting experience. It is our opinion that the achievements of healthy growth, contented babies, good naps, and playful wake times, as well as the gift of nighttime sleep, are too valuable to be left to chance. We realize there are a number of parenting theories being marketed today, most of which come gift-wrapped with unrealistic promises and unnecessary burdens. Spend time with relatives and friends who follow the Attachment Parenting style of infant care. The principles contained within the pages can help parents develop workable strategies that meet the needs of their babies and the rest of the family. However, your pediatrician or family practitioner should always be consulted when questions arise about the health and welfare of your baby. Because the principles of On Becoming Babywise are so effective, I consider it part of my extended health care for the family. They consistently produce babies who are healthy, content, and who sleep through the night at an early age. ". As family physicians and a husband-wife team, we are often asked questions related to parenting and the general care of children.

Find Best Price at Amazon"She is, in fact, the only midwife to have a medically-recognized procedure named for her (The Gaskin Maneuver, a technique used to resolve shoulder dystocia). In the early-‘70s, Gaskin, her husband, and some friends started a commune in rural Tennessee called The Farm. The intentional community brought together non-violent, vegetarian, spiritual people bound by a “shared psychedelic vision.”. The Farm is now well known for its midwifery practice (one of the first out-of-hospital birthing centers in the U.S.). The first part is a selection of birth stories, told in first person by mothers who delivered at The Farm. Gaskin condones unmedicated births (unless intervention is medically necessary), and her practices and advice strongly reflect that bent. I visualized my yoni as a big, open cave beneath the surface of the ocean, with huge, surging currents sweeping in an out. As the wave of water rushed into my cave, my contraction would grow and swell and fill, reach a full peak, then ebb smoothly back out. Here’s her description: "I wanted to connect deeply with her and share my recent experience to help her relax and open. The thought of one of my BFFs coming to be with me during labor, stripping down, and telling me about her oceanic “yoni” while I’m having contractions is, frankly, laughable. There are drawings (and some very graphic photographs) of birthing positions that use gravity and various other techniques to help get that baby out without the necessity of forceps or vacuum extractors (or c-section, for that matter). There is lots of discussion on “Sphincter Law,” the “set of basic assumptions about birth” that Gaskin and her partners follow: 1) sphincters (excretory, vaginal, and cervical) work best in private, 2) they can’t be opened at will and don’t respond well to commands (like “Push!!"
"I normally hate reading informative-type books and I hate to buy them since I never read anything more than once."
"The first half (ish) of the book is simply uplifting, encouraging stories from real women about their own successful home births."
"This was a beautiful book that helped me feel ready for a natural birth."
"This is by far the best book I have read about birth!"
"I would recommend this book to anyone interested in natural birth."

For those parents who do have a sense of humor and who may not find profanity particularly offensive and who live in the real world. Jackson should narrate a book for every single stage of life, from being born to the grave. In the book you talk about the importance of switching up what you eat and how it can help you lose weight. And by eating the right nutrient-dense whole foods on the right days and at the right times, that’s exactly how you’ll get your metabolism burning fast and hot, like it should be. The book is the product of 20 years of clinical experience, of helping people lose weight and keep it off. Each phase of the diet—and the specific foods within that phase—sets off precise reactions in your body, coaxing it to unlock and burn fat. A "calorie" has nothing to do with your weight or metabolism; it's actually a unit of measure—the amount of energy it takes to raise the temperature of one gram of water one degree Celsius! With The Fast Metabolism Diet , you'll learn healthy eating habits that will improve your physical and mental well-being, no matter how much weight you need to lose. There's plenty of flexibility for working around food allergies or sensitivities, and any other restrictions imposed by medical conditions. Find Best Price at Amazon"I know it may seem a bit early to post a review, but wanted to do so now for two reasons; first, I am excited by my results so far - I have already lost 9 pounds - and second, I was dismayed by the inaccurate review (V. Canfield) that deterred me from trying this diet program months ago. I have lost (and gained back) weight on at least three different programs and know I will lose weight with Weight Watchers if I really work at it and am very patient - but I knew it would take a long time and lots of deprivation to lose all that I need to lose to improve my health. I have a friend (a tiny, little friend who needed to lose about 20 pounds) who had lost weight on the FMD and she loved it. Then I read V. Canfield's review and it gave me the excuse I was looking for - I told my friend that the diet was a starvation program it would be unhealthy to eat so few 'calories'. She was surprised and told me that she never got hungry and had a hard time eating all of the food on the program. I lost 3 pounds in two weeks and then I gained it all back - plus one more. I find it very sad that V. Canfield's inaccurate representation of the program (the calorie counts artificially assume that you can only eat from the cook book, chooses some very lean recipes and then ignores that veggies are unlimited) review has turned so many people away from this program. I have been on the FMD program for 9 months now (except for the period between Thanksgiving and New Years Day) and have lost 95 pounds! Then I started eating on the maintenance plan (basically phase 3 with the food from all the phases thrown in) and I continued to lose weight - just more slowly. Beginning Thanksgiving week, I started eating holiday foods - so sugar, corn, wheat etc. At first, I actually lost 8 pounds after T'giving, so I started feeling a bit bullet proof, obviously I had cured my metabolism and could now eat whatever I wanted, I thought. By Christmas time I was eating enough sugar that I was beginning to retain fluid, feel pain in my joints and have indigestion - all things that disappeared on the program. I gained back 5 of the 8 pounds I lost right after Thanksgiving and it has taken me a week to get rid of the sugar again - it is incredibly addictive! He gained back 8 pounds before he decided he really preferred the way he felt on the program - so he is still eating with me most days."
"The first weeks I didn't realize that the fruits you could eat on days 1 & 2 (watermelon) could not be eaten on days 5 and 6. Anyway... in spite of all of my imperfections with the diet I lost 18 lbs. The weight stayed off for several months until recently when I began eating too much sugar etc again and I gained back 4 lbs, but I am back on the diet and confident I will lose the 4 lbs and then some."
"I’ve lost 16 pounds on my 26th day."
"Losing weight thats all that counts."
"I had ordered the book from another site and didn't get it in time so I ordered the audio version and downloaded it right away."
"Loved the book."
"Presented a lot of information in a logical way."
"I am in sales and this diet would be difficult for me to follow as I have too many lunch appointments where the food is not diet friendly however have several co-workers who are in the office and able to bring their lunches and they have lost a unbelievable amount of weight and I am not talking about just one there are several."

Find Best Price at Amazon"Our household is very careful about the food we buy, which is why I was quite interested in this book by Mr. Olmstead. So I was hopeful this book would not only provide a sort of guide map for selecting high quality foods, but would also either reassure me that the organic brand is worth while, or dissuade me from spending the extra cash on organic labeled products. I think this book speaks more to the food preferences of Mr. Olmstead than a more comprehensive treatment of the thousands of food products you'll find in a typical grocery store. His often long ramblings about regional culture, specific farms and villages, his travels and his food experiences tended to obscure what I was looking for based on the title of the book."
"He covers quite a few different food items, including beef, seafood, cheese, alcoholic drinks--even fruit juice. The frauds are especially concentrated in "special foods which for the first time in 2014 topped one hundred billion dollars in the United States. This category is rife with scams, including many foods viewed as healthier choices, as well as fancy cheeses, meats, oils, and other “gourmet” items." For example, he spends a lot of time documenting how "Parmesan" Cheese sold in the U.S. is so much different than the actual, original product. He notes how he made numerous efforts to try to get the FDA to pay attention--but they refused to even grant him an interview, despite their promises. "Federal regulations require (as in mandatory, not optional) the FDA to inspect less than 2 percent of imported seafood , hardly a rigorous analysis . Still, in 2013, inspectors managed to achieve barely a quarter of that incredibly low threshold—and their poor performance has been getting shoddier annually, down from the year before." For example, he notes that the "big box" retailers do a good job at removing fake products--simply because they have so much clout."
"Only problem now is that I no longer trust what it says on restaurant menus!"
