"Great resource with marvelous pictures for a novice Rose gardener."
"I'm glad I read this book on roses before I read others that I have since read."
"Paul Zimmerman writes in an approachable style that allows the reader; either a new grower, one trying to make some decisions or an old hand to either do an in-depth study or quickly glance at key topics to come back to later when needed."
"Caring for Knock Out roses (and many shrub roses in general) is different from that needed for floribunda, hybrid tea and grandiflora types."
"Even if you don't grow roses, this is a great book for all gardeners."

Peter Schneider challenges the notorious myth that roses are difficult to grow, arguing that it’s all about choosing the right petals for the right place! They will thrive in tidy deck containers, lend months of show-stopping color to perennial borders, shower cascades of blooms down trellises, and cluster together in sturdy property-line hedges. A delicate rose that thrives in California will probably not fare as well in a Michigan garden, but he suggests plenty of other varieties that will reward your efforts with long-lasting beauty.

Part Two, the largest section, covers roses in the garden and the landscape. He covers specimen roses, beds and borders, varieties for cutting, miniatures, climbers, tree roses and growing roses in containers. Every rose in this book is commercially available (or was at the time of publication) This is not your ultimate encyclopedia of rose varieties, it is much more useful than that!"
"The only thing that is frustrating for me for just about all book relating to plants is that the plant zones not noted and I either have to hunt for it on the internet when specifying the rose or look in the index and then it may be in another area of the book, because the rose that is discussed is on different pages of the book itself."
"Yes, those drifts of top heavy, loaded with blossom types I've admired but been afraid to try. The nurseries near my home (relative term, closest is 65 miles, good ones over 100) have some, actually many, of the Roses featured, but I want unique varieties so am happy to order them by mail."
"The title sums up the author's approach - he wants to help the reader select a rose that will be successful in terms of climate, space and purpose."
"My only complaint is this is geared to zone 5 gardens and I am in zone 7, so a lot of other roses that are available to me are not really covered."
"Excellent organization, writing, and photos."
"One of my favorite books about roses."
"A very useful book for any northern, cold winters, rose gardener."

-Provides valuable information on rose cultivation and propagation. -Written by the proprietor of one of the UK's leading rose nurseries. Like it's companion in the series, Old Roses this title draws the pertinent information from David Austin's The Rose and focuses on English Roses, bred by David Austin to combine the sumptuousness of Old Roses with the strength and practical virtues of Modern Roses. He was awarded the Victoria Medal of Honor by the Royal Horticultural Society in 2003 and the Dean Hole Medal by the Royal National Rose Society.

Use wooden garden supports (the green ones that are used for staking flowers) to weave in and out of the wire and drive into the ground so the wire doesn't blow away. Then top dress with seasoned or just dried horse manure and on top of that fill the wire enclosure up with OAK leaves to cover the crown. You are filling the enclosure up about a quarter of the way."
"The roses are classified as Old Rose Hybrids, The Leander Group, The English Musk Roses, The Alba Rose Hybrids."
"This book has lots of beautiful pics of roses and descriptions of David Austins roses."
"Some of the roses in the book are no longer available, as far as I know, but it is wonderful to look at them."
"As in everything else Mr. Austin does, a gorgeous work."
"Very nicely written book for someone interested in roses."
"I needed this book for the David Austin roses I purchase a year ago."
