New York Times Bestseller * Los Angeles Times Bestseller * Washington Post Bestseller * San Francisco Chronicle Bestseller * Chicago Tribune Bestseller. Yann Martel's imaginative and unforgettable Life of Pi is a magical reading experience, an endless blue expanse of storytelling about adventure, survival, and ultimately, faith. After a harrowing shipwreck, Pi finds himself adrift in the Pacific Ocean, trapped on a 26-foot lifeboat with a wounded zebra, a spotted hyena, a seasick orangutan, and a 450-pound Bengal tiger named Richard Parker ("His head was the size and color of the lifebuoy, with teeth"). After much gore and infighting, Pi and Richard Parker remain the boat's sole passengers, drifting for 227 days through shark-infested waters while fighting hunger, the elements, and an overactive imagination. A fabulous romp through an imagination by turns ecstatic, cunning, despairing and resilient, this novel is an impressive achievement "a story that will make you believe in God," as one character says. Halfway to Midway Island, the ship sinks into the Pacific, leaving Pi stranded on a life raft with a hyena, an orangutan, an injured zebra and a 450-pound Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. Martel's potentially unbelievable plot line soon demolishes the reader's defenses, cleverly set up by events of young Pi's life that almost naturally lead to his biggest ordeal.

Find Best Price at Amazon"This is an incredible but plausible story of central and crucial events in the life ofes Patel, shipwrecked with a Belgian tiger, and traversing the Pacific ocean in his company."
"Just like any other book that was made into a movie, it has much more detail, a greater ability to grab you, and it is moving."
"What I found most fascinating is how it grips the reader despite being predominantly a narrative with very little dialogue in the very limited geography of a small boat, where the protagonist finds himself stranded after his ship capsizes."
"This book is mistakenly portrayed as a children's movie, when in fact it's much more graphic with disturbing images of despair. I would not recommend (the book) for sensitive children. I felt compelled to write this review (as a young adult with no children, who hates book censorship) after being disturbed by a 7-year old who couldn't wait to read this on his Kindle after getting out of the theater."
"I was sad and would tear up when he reminisced about his family that had apparently gone down with the boat. And just as Pi was ready to give up on life and die in the ocean, I was thinking “Man, I wish he would hit land soon.”. I give Life of Pi 4 stars."
"This story has stayed with me for years and I have read it 3 times."
"Does God abandon us in these times, or intervene when things begin to weigh too much for us to bear? This book was beautiful in depiction of the struggle of a young man with nothing left to lose attempting to find his way in the vast pacific ocean and his place in the world."

Soon the tiger has dispatched all but Pi, whose fear, knowledge, and cunning allow him to coexist with Richard Parker for 227 days while lost at sea. "— Los Angeles Times Book Review "A gripping adventure story . Laced with wit, spiced with terror, it's a book by an extraordinary talent. "An impassioned defense of zoos, a death-defying trans-Pacific sea adventure a la Kon-Tiki , and a hilarious shaggy-dog story . "Readers familiar with Margaret Atwood, Mavis Gallant, Alice Munro, Michael Ondaatje and Carol Shields should learn to make room on the map of contemporary Canadian fiction for the formidable Yann Martel."

As the trial moves forward, Ruth and Kennedy must gain each other’s trust, and come to see that what they’ve been taught their whole lives about others—and themselves—might be wrong. "One character's life makes you think not only of her outlook but forces you to truly take an introspective look. While you are reading it, it is hard to imagine that it was written by a white, female author. I found myself doubting things that I have said, whom I may have inadvertently hurt or offended with no malicious intent. The story is passionate, intense, and portrays a deep struggle, which you want to read. The title comes from a line in a famous speech of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s: If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way.”. The story is about a nurse, no ordinary nurse, but one who is dedicated and well regarded, with a twenty-year career at the hospital where ‘the incident’ occurs. When the nurse comes into their room, to take over the shift of another labor and delivery nurse, upon seeing her, the parents, who are white supremacists, see that she is black and immediately request to see her supervisor, whom they tell, in no uncertain terms, that this woman is not to touch their baby. The extremely racist man is angered to the point of revenge and his wife is shattered and taken to bed and depression. I commend Picoult for taking on the writing of a potentially controversial subject and for tackling it with a story that has great depth and feeling."
"She worked there for 20 years and never had a problem until one day, when someone requested that she doesn't take care of their baby because of her race. This request eventually led to a series of events where Ruth finds herself questioning the system she has lived in all of her life, worked in and everything she believed in. As the case winds on, Kennedy finds herself questioning the status quo and realizes that not everything is as black and white as it may seem in the real world. Turk, the white supremacist father, who was so aggrieved at the loss of his baby son needed a scapegoat for his rage and sorrow. Picoult weaves her way through this story delicately as well as making her points without beating someone on the head with the truth."

King Severn Argentine’s fearsome reputation precedes him: usurper of the throne, killer of rightful heirs, ruthless punisher of traitors. Richard III is near-obligatory context for reading about King Severn Argentine; readers less fond of the Bard can refer to Kylo Ren instead. This is the first title in Wheeler’s projected Kingfountain series, about Owen Kiskaddon, initially the eight-year-old son of a traitorous duke being held hostage at the royal court of Ceredigion.

Find Best Price at Amazon"I'm a fan of Jeff Wheeler and have enjoyed his 3 trilogies in the Muirwood and Mirrowen worlds, and came into this book expecting The Queen's Poisoner to be much of the same, but it was surprisingly different and unique. Although Wheeler's writing style is clear throughout, unlike his other books, this story follows a child, 8-year old Owen, as the main character. As Owen begins to feel the magic of the Fountain, we get a lot of foreshadow, hints, and small demonstrations of what the magic entails, but the magic is not what drives the plot in The Queen's Poisoner-- it's the characters. Lastly, as with all of Wheeler's books, I enjoyed the clean aspect to his writing."
"I purchased this book as my Amazon Kindle First book for March; if there is a Fantasy book listed at all, chances are that's the book I'm going to go for. I felt torn between liking and hating some, which felt like a natural response to the characters Wheeler was developing (I did worry about this from the very beginning of the book, as Wheeler started us out with a list of characters that felt like it was intended to tell us who we were supposed to like and who we weren't; thankfully, the characters were much more developed as the story moved on). The supporting characters are equally well developed and each come with their own surprising traits; Wheeler did a fantastic job of presenting one side of the characters to you early on in the book, but letting you look deeper into who they were and what they were doing where other eyes couldn't see them as you moved further into the book. By the time I reached the end of the book, I knew that this was going to be a series that I would be eagerly waiting for the next book to come out for. While the story wrapped up this part of Owen's life well (you are told in a blurb after the end that the next book will occur 7 years from the end of book one, so it makes sense for the first book to not end in a cliffhanger), there are enough unanswered questions and possibilities yet to be answered or seen."
"If that wasn't bad enough, they are forced to give Owen to the king as his next hostage. While in the castle, he learns many dark secrets. He also learned that he had many in the castle who would do anything to protect him and keep him alive no matter what. I know I harp on a lot of narrators, but the ones who catch my attention really deserve it. If I'm being honest, I think she's the reason I mainly decided to stick with this book when I found it a bit dull."
"This series is my new addiction."

*WINNER of the NATIONAL BOOK AWARD for FICTION. *A TIME MAGAZINE BEST NOVEL OF THE YEAR and A NEW YORK TIMES TOP 10 OF 2017. *Finalist for the Kirkus Prize. *Finalist for the Andrew Carnegie Medal *Publishers Weekly Top 10 of 2017 “The heart of Jesmyn Ward’s Sing, Unburied, Sing is story—the yearning for a narrative to help us understand ourselves, the pain of the gaps we’ll never fill, the truths that are failed by words and must be translated through ritual and song...Ward’s writing throbs with life, grief, and love, and this book is the kind that makes you ache to return to it.” — Buzzfeed. An intimate portrait of a family and an epic tale of hope and struggle, Sing, Unburied, Sing journeys through Mississippi’s past and present, examining the ugly truths at the heart of the American story and the power—and limitations—of family bonds. When the children’s father is released from prison, Leonie packs her kids and a friend into her car and drives north to the heart of Mississippi and Parchman Farm, the State Penitentiary. Set on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi (a place rich in oil rigs and atmosphere, if almost nothing else), the book’s Southern gothic aura recalls the dense, head-spinning prose of William Faulkner or Flannery O’Connor. It combines aspects of the American road novel and the ghost story with a timely treatment of the long aftershocks of a hurricane and the opioid epidemic devouring rural America." On a real and metaphorical road of secrets and sorrows, the story shifts narrators — from Jojo to Leonie to Richie, a doomed boy from his grandfather’s fractured past — as they crash into both the ghosts that stalk them, as well as the disquieting ways these characters haunt themselves." Sing , which is longlisted for a 2017 National Book Award, establishes Ward as one of the most poetic writers in the conversation about America’s unfinished business in the black South." The length and music of Ward’s sentences owe much to her love of catalogues, extended similes, imagistic fragments, and emphasis by way of repetition ... "[A] tour de force ... Ward is an attentive and precise writer who dazzles with natural and supernatural observations and lyrical details ... she continues telling stories we need to hear with rare clarity and power." "The novel is built around an arduous car trip: A black woman and her two children drive to a prison to pick up their white father. As soon as they leave the relative safety of their backwoods farm, the snares and temptations of the outside world crowd in, threatening to derail their trip or cast them into some fresh ordeal ....

Find Best Price at Amazon"She sets this novel in the Mississippi Delta, and we have two main narrators Leonie, the young mother and Jojo her thirteen year old son, and a third narrator who leads three chapters and his presence gives explanation to the book’s title, Richie. Jojo and his little sister Kayla are children of Leonie, who is a drug abusing mother with zero mothering instincts. Jojo is like the surrogate father, as Leonie is often gone and the father, Michael is locked up in the notorious Parchman prison. Jesmyn brilliantly uses that actual road trip to take readers on a virtual trip thru the lives of Leonie, Pop and Man, and also Given. Pop often regales young Jojo with stories about his life and his own stay at Parchman. It seems he tells Jojo the same beginning and middle parts of his Parchman stay, but never the ending, well the ending of Pop's story coincides with the denouement of the novel and the book title will be clearly and fully brought to light."
"I know you're looking for a review, but instead, you're getting a prediction: Sing, Unburied, Sing will not only be regarded as the most important work of fiction published in 2017, but it will prove to be a work of enduring significance in American literature."
"A ghost story that also brings to life how the past is never really the past and we just learn to live our lives with the past firmly at our backs."
"I cried so hard, not for myself, but for the cruelty of humankind, the love that is, but often only memory contains and thankfully talented writers can capture. Set in rural Mississippi, told from each character’s point of view, we learn about the untimely and extremely unfortunate deaths of two people, different generations, both a result of racial strife, who come to haunt a mother and her son. They have enough love to give, despite having lost a son and raised a selfish daughter, perhaps who took a wrong turn as a result of drugs or when she married a louse who is in jail."
"I am a huge fan of Haruki Murakami and the magical realism genre generally."

Being retired and having read several hundred Kindle books, I can honestly say this has to be the most exciting heart pounding story I have yet read on my Kindle. I give it 10 stars out of 5 and - as another reviewer said "I guarantee you'll be downloading his next book.... "There was much criticism of waves not being about to cancel each other.....Please note that waves can cancel each other out such as standing waves which are the result of two equal waves are going in opposite direction and in this case you get the usual up/down motion of the water surface but the waves don’t progress."
"The story line was enhanced at the beginning by the well-described, but disparate, scenarios of Naval submarine issues in the Caribbean, research on dolphin communications in Miami, and strange events occurring in Antarctica. Having the Miami aquarium research lab rebuilt just like that after the government took it apart was also unrealistic, as was the contrived protection of the populace on the island preceding the second nuclear explosion."

"Add that her arm keeps sticking to her dress from syrup left on the console of her car, flustered feels like an understatement. Graham Landry is the epitome of NSFW in his custom-fit suit, black-rimmed glasses, and a look so stern her libido doesn’t stand a chance. Not because of his pinpoint exactness or her free spirit, but because when they’re together, the sparks that fly threaten to burn the whole place down."
"Oh my gosh...my favorite line in this book was from Joy "I wasn’t even sure which one I wanted. There is something about Graham that I just adore...I don't know if it's broodiness or his protective nature of his family or just because he's sexy and sweet! brooding man lose control and fall in love!"
"Graham is my favorite Landry yet!! The way that their relationship blooms is perfect."
"This is a story about first love, young love finding yourself when you are young and don't know what you want and then about finding that first love all over again when you think you don't care anymore. I love the way Ford and Ellie's story is told and has you thinking of them as real people that are your friends."

It marries the fantastical world of Harry Potter with a touch of Orson Scott Card—where fantasy is reality, geeks are cool, and the possibilities are endless.” — New York Journal of Books “ Ridiculously fun and large-hearted, and you don't have to remember the Reagan administration to love it…[Cline] takes a far-out premise and engages the reader instantly…You'll wish you could make it go on and on.” —NPR.org. “A delirious, crypto-nerd fantasia...Crammed with ’80s nostalgia and sugar-high prose, it's ridiculous and addictive and full of toy surprises.” —Village Voice “A smart, funny thriller that both celebrates and critiques online culture...Layered with inside jokes and sly references.” —San Francisco Chronicle “A fun, funny and fabulously entertaining first novel…This novel's large dose of 1980s trivia is a delight…[but] even readers who need Google to identify Commodore 64 or Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde, will enjoy this memorabilian feast.” — Cleveland Plain Dealer “The grown-up's 'Harry Potter’…the mystery and fantasy in this novel weaves itself in the most delightful way, and the details that make up Mr. Cline's world are simply astounding. "Even if you are not a video game player, You will at least remember the video games like Pac-Man that came out in the 1980s."
"This book kept me engaged, maybe it's because I enjoy videogames, but the way the writer actually put me in the story was really good."
"Fun flashbacks to the 80s."
"My husband has not read a book in the 12 years I've been married to him."
"Being only a year older than the main cultural source of the book I was dancing between the story and my own memories. With such a huge cast of cultural references presented it would have been impossible to accumulate them as the characters in this book seem to. The 80s was a huge explosion of geek culture which would take a lifetime to experience, yet these people are able to absorb it in a few years. Even if you are not a child of the 80s, if you have a friend or family member who was this book will provide a great insight into the early days of geekdom."
"The author did a good job of relating how life would be if consumed by a virtual world and how easily humanity would use it as an outlet for everyday life. I believe the author did a find job describing the grandious nature of a world driven my imagination but inhabitted by real people."
"I loved how the real world aspects and cyber world aspect intertwined to create such a dynamic contrast. The adventure, action, and puzzles were all things I looked forward to."

William Goldman's modern fantasy classic is a simple, exceptional story about quests—for riches, revenge, power, and, of course, true love—that's thrilling and timeless. Anyone who lived through the 1980s may find it impossible—inconceivable, even—to equate The Princess Bride with anything other than the sweet, celluloid romance of Westley and Buttercup, but the film is only a fraction of the ingenious storytelling you'll find in these pages. What happens when the most beautiful girl in the world marries the handsomest prince of all time and he turns out to be...well...a lot less than the man of her dreams? As a boy, William Goldman claims, he loved to hear his father read the "S. Morgenstern classic, The Princess Bride. Eventually to be adapted for the silver screen, THE PRINCESS BRIDE was originally a beautifully simple, insightfully comic story of what happens when the most beautiful girl in the world marries the handsomest prince in the world--and he turnsout to be a son of a bitch. Guaranteed to entertain both young and old alike by combining scenes of rowsing fantasy with hilarious reality, THE PRINCESS BRIDE secures Goldman's place as a master storyteller.

Find Best Price at Amazon"William Goldman's story telling is pure genius, writing from a satirical 1st person perspective of how he created an abridged version of an old non-fictional book from a fictional country written by a fictional author. As you read through the "abridged version" you will frequently stumble across familiar lines you've come to love from the film ("INCONCEIVABLE!"). After reading the book you'll have a newfound appreciation for the movie which you'll see is a fantastic adaptation, and you'll have a fantastic time wrapped around Goldman's hilarious finger as he guides you through a truly wonderful story that feels exactly like the timeless classic we've enjoyed watching for years."

Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He is left only with a lightning-bolt scar on his forehead, curiously refined sensibilities, and a host of mysterious powers to remind him that he's quite, yes, altogether different from his aunt, uncle, and spoiled, piglike cousin Dudley. Of course, Uncle Vernon yells most unpleasantly, "I AM NOT PAYING FOR SOME CRACKPOT OLD FOOL TO TEACH HIM MAGIC TRICKS!" So far it has won the National Book Award, the Smarties Prize, the Children's Book Award, and is short-listed for the Carnegie Medal, the U.K. version of the Newbery Medal. After 11 years of disregard and neglect at the hands of his aunt, uncle and their swinish son Dudley, Harry suddenly receives a visit from a giant named Hagrid, who informs Harry that his mother and father were a witch and a wizard, and that he is to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry himself.

Good or bad is naturally for each reader to decide--just know, if you plan to read the books while listening to Jim Dale's audiobooks, you'll notice a few superficial differences. "IMPORTANT: For U.S. customers purchasing the illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, you will notice the text has NOT been converted to the "Americanized" version of the original U.S. releases. This difference isn't as prominent or noticeable as it was with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone, but still something to keep in mind. Also, to answer a question that has come up quite a bit, this is the FULL BOOK and not an abridged or shortened version. Underneath the book jacket, the novel is bound in a sturdy orange hardback with green lettering on the spine."
"I was ravenous to get my hands on my copy as soon as it was delivered this morning, but was quickly disappointed. But when I took a close look at my dust jacket, I was extremely upset to find that the gold foil lettering for "Harry Potter" had been rubbed away and destroyed completely in some places leaving ugly, black matte in its place-- pock marking the otherwise handsome gold lettering. Needless to say I'm in awe how Bloomsbury has managed to put together such an incredible project, with JK Rowling's remarkable literature and Jim Kay's otherworldly illustrations-- and allowed it to be put together in a low quality binding! Not all alone in a box... Update (October 9th): I have finally received my new book and it was in much, much better condition. The cover and spine were tight, intact and falling apart from the binding like my original copy."

When I first began reading I wasn't sure what I thought but it wasn't long until I got caught up in Dunk and Egg's meanderings through the kingdoms. Adventures spring from politics, jealousy and greed, and the fact that Dunk is still learning his trade and finding his own way in the world. He's made me like the setting and characters so much that I not only care about what great adventures they are working up to, but also about what they are doing when absolutely nothing much is going on."

"Good book set in the world of the Game of thrones."
"A small treat from Westeros while we wait and wait and wait and wait and wait for The Winds of Winter."
"I'm only halfway through right now, but I am enjoying this more than any of the Song of Ice and Fire books."
"Loved the story pre-Game of Thrones."
"The stories were interesting and full of the historical details I have expected from the author but were not as intense as Game of Thrones."
"Good read had a hard time putting it down."

As Walker Gibson looks at her, then at the damage to his precious truck (that she may or may not have accidentally inflicted), she knows she’s in trouble. The damage to Walker’s truck is the first of many mistakes between the two of them, ending with truths that rock Sienna’s world. Nothing can fix her broken heart except the love of a man that won’t, maybe even can’t, love her back. Nobody writes small town romance like Locke . Whether it's old money or blue collar like Crank, she has a way of bringing the story to life in the most romantic and relatable way. Her stories are small town magic. Crank was everything I needed, everything I wanted, everything that's good and right about a sweet, sexy, and heartwarming contemporary romance. These Gibson boys will DESTROY hearts and ovaries . Adriana Locke can write romance like no one else . There is nothing better than a well written family dynamic in a love story. This is the first book in a very long time that has absorbed me.

Find Best Price at Amazon"I loved this book. This story is full of jokes, laughter, truths, questions, hurt, pain, lies, friendship, family, and love. Sienna sneaks up on him. He might be Walker's cousin, but he is team Sienna all the way. Sienna has always stood outside her family while still being a part of it."
"Get Locke(d) and loaded, not to mention ready to be Cranked to the maximum, people because you’re about to discover a brand new world. From the sexy as f*** hero, Walker Gibson to the sweetest heroine, Sienna Landry, we have one kick-a** story. It revolves around Walker’s garage where Sienna ends up working to pay off an unexpected debt. He meets Sienna when she gets caught after accidentally smashing his truck’s headlight with a baseball stick. But, the chemistry when that meeting took place could have set fire to a wet stick, it was so incendiary. When Sienna shows up next day to pay for the damages, Walker isn’t prepared for the effect she has on him. She’s trouble with a capital T, something she proves when he leaves her alone of a few minutes and she lets two customers drive off with the cars without paying their bills. Walker’s unsure if he wants Sienna there, she’s a distraction he could well do without, but she makes a great impression on him and he relents. This is where Adriana shines the most, the way she portrays her characters, the way they just climb off the pages and into our hearts. Walker’s family is great, the dynamics of it was simply awesome, the banter, joking and pure ‘caring’ just draws you in."
"They have everyday jobs and close relationships with their siblings, cousins and their grandma. They live in a small town where everyone knows your business. They have normal struggles like money, loss, relationship issues, work stress and nosy family members. Crank is Walker and Sienna's story. He's a grease monkey who took over his dad's auto shop. She's strong, sassy, smart and is just trying to find her way. Walker's precious trunk meets Sienna's practice swing. She's going to see him every day in his tight t-shirts and jeans and rough, sexy hands. The attraction has Sienna's skin sizzling. These brothers are going to make us all swoon to death! When I start a new series, I always have a favorite, but I can't decide between these Gibson boys. Those guys are clean-shaven, hair gelled, politically-correct boys I’ve met at a fashion event or political rally."

"Extremely pleased with this leather edition."
"Going into these books (I read them after the show began but before I'd seen the show...), I enjoyed my share of sci-fi/fantasy along the lines of Harry Potter, Buffy the Vampire Slayer... fairly light-hearted stuff (in comparison, at least) that always felt grounded in the same world I live in. So when I first saw articles and clips from the HBO Game of Thrones series, I thought it looked like the one type of fantasy series that I would never enjoy. I held out for a looong time, until 3 different friends of mine with similar tastes in books/shows/films promised me that, while they too disliked this sub-genre of fantasty, this series was different, and I HAD to read the books or start the show."
"I was under the impression it would be the "size of a pocket bible" and the pages were so thin u could see through them like bible paper. All of my pages are here (from what I can tell) and although I doubt the quality of the "leather" it still feel great in hand and is just stunning to look at. I've included pictures to show its beauty and also compare the size to an actual pocket bible and its paper."
"Would I recommend the book, sure, but the book should be read before watching the show, not because the show will let the reader down, but because the show is better than the novel which is rare."
"I can't tell if this is the case for the rest of the books, but I'm certainly dissatisfied with the product."
