Genesis (First Colony Book 1)
Escaping wrongful imprisonment wasn’t something Connor had in mind, but being put into stasis aboard Earth’s first interstellar colony ship was something he couldn’t have prepared for.

"If you like science fiction, and military books this book hits t he mark."
"Keeps you going and well engaged."
"Enjoyed the story."
"Interesting throughout and didn't stray of the plotline."
"Not that Gates is even aware of that as his latest operation goes sideways fast and the consequences of his command decisions start to hit. There is conflict galore in “Genesis”, ranging from people who don’t like each other, to vicious animals that need to be subdued, along with some budding romance but it’s age appropriate and there are no actual sex scenes so it’s all ‘M’ rated. There is a bit of technology, a lot of enemies to fight, enough death amongst the cast that you have some concern that favorite characters won’t necessarily survive, and a self-contained novel that allows for a sequel."
"From the first chapter I felt pulled into the story-line and found myself rooting for the characters as they set up Earth's first colony on an alien world."
"A future black ops colonel, “Connor Grant,” is suckered into attacking with his platoon, a pervasive, organized crime organization, the “Syndicate,” ensconced on a massive, Sol System space station. Half of his platoon escapes, is recovered by a Fleet admiral benefactor, who puts Connor into statis, and places him secretly aboard a colony ship, the “Ark,” shortly destined to leave on a decades long journey. The colonel is suspect, attempts to find his way, and becomes involved in establishing a paramilitary “Search and Rescue” unit. No military as security, only a glorified, lightly armed and ineffective, park ranger style group for the colony’s protection is permitted."

Old Man's War
The bulk of humanity's resources are in the hands of the Colonial Defense Force, which shields the home planet from too much knowledge of the situation. Old Man's War Series #1 Old Man’s War #2 The Ghost Brigades #3 The Last Colony #4 Zoe’s Tale #5 The Human Division #6 The End of All Things Short fiction: “After the Coup”. Other Tor Books The Android’s Dream. Agent to the Stars. Your Hate Mail Will Be Graded. Fuzzy Nation. Redshirts. Lock In. The Collapsing Empire (forthcoming). At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied. Though a lot of SF writers are more or less efficiently continuing the tradition of Robert A. Heinlein, Scalzi's astonishingly proficient first novel reads like an original work by the late grand master. After bonding with a group of fellow recruits who dub their clique the Old Farts, Perry finds himself in a new body crafted from his original DNA and upgraded for battle, including fast-clotting "smartblood" and a brain-implanted personal computer. Scalzi's blending of wry humor and futuristic warfare recalls Joe Haldeman's classic, The Forever War (1974), and strikes the right fan--pleasing chords to probably garner major sf award nominations.

"My kindle purchases have somehow resulted in Amazon recommending me books that have been somewhat disappointing, despite the reviews being positive, so I was vary at picking yet another military sci-fi book."
"I felt that making this book a little longer and adding to pieces of the plot that were otherwise skipped over could have been beneficial, but regardless, the premise of the story is very interesting, and without giving away too much it makes me wonder where the inspiration for the movie Avatar came from.. Definitely looks to be a promising series, funny and stylish."
"An original science fiction filled with so much humanity that it is almost shocking while being a surprisingly easy to read and definitively gripping story."
""Old Man's War" will bring to mind for many people, "Starship Troopers." But in "Old Man's War" one must be 75 years old to enlist."
"I loved the story."
"I haven't read a military sci fi novel in a long time, having lost interest due to predictable tropes and lengthy monologues about how horrible war is. In this way, I share much with the book's protagonist, seventy-five year old John Perry, who enlists in the CDF after visiting his wife's grave one last time. This offers him and the thousands of senior citizen soldiers a second chance at life, out there, fighting for prime real estate against alien species."
