"This is a must read for those who like dark stories."
"With out trying to give away to much about the story you find out that when hulk arrives on the planet he entered some kind of "power draining portal" which left him much much weaker. Anyway over the course of the story we meet another very powerful hero from the marvel universe that has also been weakened and trapped on this world. The hulk eventually makes friends with some fellow slaves and goes on to do some great things on this new world, but ill let you read about that on your own."
Bestselling author Sherman Alexie tells the story of Junior, a budding cartoonist growing up on the Spokane Indian Reservation. "The line between dramatic monologue, verse novel, and standup comedy gets unequivocally-and hilariously and triumphantly-bent in this novel. "Nimbly blends sharp with unapologetic emotion....fluid narration deftly mingles raw feelings with funny, sardonic insight. "Alexie's humor and prose are easygoing and well suited to his young audience. "Fierce observations and sharp sense of humor...hilarious language.

"An excellent book for teenage & young adults living difficult lives."
"I highly recommend this book!"
"I knew nothing about growing up as a native American, and was delighted with the perspectives, humor, sadness and plot turns."
"Great book club selection!"
"then, at the urging of a weird old white teacher, the narrator (arnold "junior" spirit) transfers to an all-white school in a nearby farming town. but, otherwise, the feelings of not fitting in, of trying to wrestle with that "affinity" issue, is not only universal to teenagers, it is -- imho -- the top-priority of youth culture these days (as i'll argue in the book i'm writing right now). i also think it's a fun and insightful read for parents and youth workers, because it speaks to this in-between, universal outcast sense that so many teenagers live with."
"When Arnold makes the decision to attend an elite, all white high school and break through the barriers so heavily imposed upon him and other young people growing up in his immediate society, the young man has the opportunity to finally prove himself, both academically and socially (pursuing an education, intermixing with his white classmates, joining the basketball team, befriending Penelope, one of the prettiest and most popular girls at school). This transcends every cultural and racial barrier."
In this post-apocalytpic sci-fi story, humanity has been devastated by the bizarre, giant humanoids known as the Titans.

A welcome read for anyone who ever felt more passion for a sandwich than is strictly speaking proper, Relish is a graphic novel for our time: it invites the reader to celebrate food as a connection to our bodies and a connection to the earth, rather than an enemy, a compulsion, or a consumer product. Loosely connected chapters chart a child- and young adulthood surrounded by cooks and bakers, bouncing between Manhattan kitchens and upstate farmhouses, and through art school and the booming culinary scene in Chicago.

The way she describes each food item will make your mouth water, never have I craved a good croissant so much! Anyway, this is not an action packed spiderman type book, this is not a batman comic, it's a thought out, elegant graphic novel about a girls life through food, suitable for reading with your preteens, as a gift for teenagers, or any adult you know that likes food and art."
"Told in chapters titled with her favorite food dishes, Lucy talks about her first delicious bites of each dish as well as some of her later life experiences. Overall, I think people interested in food will enjoy this book, but as a stand-alone biography, probably not."
"Packed with recipes and lovely drawings of kitchen life, it's bound to make foodies proud and newbies ready to roll up their sleeves and explore - or order Blue Apron."
"Knisley finds a kind of sweet depth in life that invites thoughtfulness, and the cherishing of life."
"With all that said, it IS the author/illustrator's story, so she should tell it like it is--it is just hard for teachers and parents to classify it."
"I really enjoyed Relish - Lucy Knisley's artwork is crisp and colorful as always, and her stories of travel are, as usual, wonderfully drawn."
"This won't be to everyone's taste, but it is an interesting book presented as a graphic novel."
"This book was a great disappointment."

--This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title. Nick Abadzis masterfully blends fiction and fact in the intertwined stories of three compelling lives. I had no idea there were so few Soviet engineers and scientists involved in the nascent space program--not to trivialize their incredible achievement but, in many senses, they just winged it, borne along in great part by Korolev's force of will and political maneuvering. Events conspired to make Laika a sacrificial passenger on board Sputnik II, but they really did honor their canine cosmonauts. It felt like we needed to be a part of that, so I drew it extremely fast--two hundred pages in a little over eight months. Originally, I did have an idea of doing three books: Laika would be the first, Gagarin the second, and a full-on comic strip biography of Korolev [the driven engineer on the project] would be the final part that would bind together events seen in the first two. Certainly, elements of Korolev's life that I felt were important to the story made it into the final version of the book. Abadzis: I suppose it would have been easy to make it another cutesy, twee, and overly saccharine dead-dog story but that wouldn't have been true either to my taste or to the socio-political system and culture I was attempting to portray. I didn't want to anthropomorphize her, at least not to the extent that she was spouting speech/thought balloons like, say Tintin's Snowy (which works just fine for those books). The sentiment of the story, such as it is, would take care of itself and be implicit in certain character's actions or words (or not, as the case may be).... All that said, it'd be disingenuous to suggest that, in dealing with a true story that involves dogs and their owners (even if they happen to be scientists in a Soviet cosmodog program), there wouldn't be a bit of emotion. But there's also the harsh reality of the time, the place and the confluence of events that put Laika into space.

"Laika was the test dog sent in to space by the Soviet Union's space program Sputnik 2."
"There is a really hard hitting vision on what the dog herself was "thinking" at critical times in her life.....raw, imaginative, and quite emotional."
"Excellent, TOTALLY WORTHING BUYING."
"While written in a comic book format, this story is anything but."
"As an dog lover I found the story quite sad."
"It is a delight, but also somewhat tragic."

This special hardcover edition also includes an exclusive sound clip of Rick and Morty and all the cover art from the first ten issues of the comic book series! "Rick and Morty, the unlikely pair at the heart of the hit Adult Swim cartoon, happily bring their signature blend of brainy sci-fi and surreal, warped mayhem to print. When dissolute genius Rick builds a device to predict the future of the stock market, he and his bumbling teenage grandson, Morty, hit the big time. Though readers unfamiliar with the show might be thrown off by the idiosyncratic speech style, it's a pitch-perfect replica of the voice actors' performances, and the artwork, full of exaggerated cartoon shapes and grotesque creatures, expertly mimics the animation. - Booklist. "Aside from the normal difficulties inherent in being young, such as school and the trials and tribulations of parents, siblings, and friends, Morty also has to deal with his grandfather Rick, a cracked scientific genius with authority issues. Verdict Based on Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland's (adult swim) animated cartoon, Rick and Morty walks a shredding tightrope among slapstick, pathos, and hilarity, with unexpected twists and a healthy sprinkle of nutty sf concepts thrown in for good measure. The anthology nature of the stories means some pieces are stronger than others, but all are imaginative and will appeal to fans of weird sf humor that borders on the psychedelic. Cannon, Ryan Hill, and back up artist Marc Ellerby have given audiences, both in and out of know, a solid debut issue chocked with comedy and pathos that can go nowhere but up.

The New York Times bestselling graphic novel sensation from Noelle Stevenson, based on her beloved and critically acclaimed web comic. Despite some rule breaking, the two end up working well together in their mission on exposing the not-so-heroic Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin and the Institution of Law Enforcement and Heroics. Nimona was recommended to me by a friend from a writing group I manage (who was also nice enough to let me borrow her copy since my book budget is non-existent right now)."
"Nimona, a shapeshifting sidekick to supervillain Lord Blackheart, does serious damage around the village to prove the Institution of Law Enforcement and Heroics aren't so heroic. The Hardcover edition I bought comes with an extra Christmas special at the end."
"Absolutely fun and exciting, it moved my feelings and made me laugh in many parts."
"Stevenson included some of her sketches and the Christmas minicomic interlude when Ballister and Ambrosius were children, plus the epilogue. It is somewhat small (page-wise) for a graphic novel, which is a bit disappointing, given the large page size online when it was just a webcomic."
"The world is fun and out there, the character more complex than you thought at first glance."
"My wife and I enjoy webcomics but had never heard of Nimona, and we ordered this on a whim after Felicia Day recommended it in "The Flog"."
"Got this book as a gift for my 12 year old niece after reading favorable reviews on SLJ and seeing it on top of some of the "best graphic novel" lists for librarians."
"This book is an instant classic."

But things become a lot more complicated when Anda befriends a gold farmer -- a poor Chinese kid whose avatar in the game illegally collects valuable objects and then sells them to players from developed countries with money to burn. “Online gaming and real life collide when a teen discovers the hidden economies and injustices that hide among seemingly innocent pixels . Through Wong's captivating illustrations and Doctorow's heady prose, readers are left with a story that's both wholly satisfying as a work of fiction and series food for thought about the real-life ramifications of playing in an intangible world. “Characters come to life through Wang's (Koko Be Good) fluid forms and emotive faces, and her adroit shift in colors as the story moves between the physical and gaming worlds is subtle and effective.” ― Publishers Weekly.
