This book introduced me to two concepts that were critical: Functional medicine, and Hashimoto's Gluten sensitivity. This led to several significant changes. The second came when I started looking for functional medicine doctors in Austin, TX and following the supplementation suggestions put forward in this book. Empty Stomach (AM): - Licorice drops. - Probiotic. - Saccharomyces Boulardii. Lunch: - Glutamine. - Methyl B12 (my Dr suspects a MTHFR gene mutation; regular B12 wasn't helping but this works great). - NAC. - Zinc (this was huge for me; gave me lots more energy). - Selenium. Bedtime: - Magnesium. - CoQ10. - Probiotic. - Fish Oil w/vitamin D. Many of these don't have to be taken with food and the order could be switched up. I'd recommend chatting with your doctor about lab work for vitamin deficiencies and reading Dr. Wentz's supplement guide."
"I've read the Stop The Thyroid Madness site, Mary Shamon's thyroid-info website, Dr. Alexander Haskell's book, Dr. Datiz Kharrazian's book and his diet recommendations, read what Jack Kruse has to say... I've looked into the GAPS diet, the paleo diet, the autoimmune paleo diet, and researched intestinal permeability and how to heal it. I'm so thrilled to have this book, it still seems too good to be true! :). I would suggest though, if there is ever a second printing, and an updated version, that the author include more advice/info on finding a good functional/integrative/holistic Dr. to work with, which testing is available and from which labs, how to navigate testing solo or with your Dr., etc."

(Attached photo shows supplements required for 1st protocol). UPDATE #1: Finished the 2 week liver protocol with some success. We are now in 2nd week of 4 week Adrenals protocol."
"First you have people reviewing the book that haven't finished the protocols and don't give concrete results for you to base your purchase on and give 5 stars. Other reviews complain it's still overwhelming, if you already know most of this stuff great, move ahead and just start! She gives a summary at the end of each protocol with what to eat, what not to eat and which supplements to take. If you don't have money to find a functional medicine doctor, or pay for all kinds of tests, then just grab the dang book, read it and spend the few hundred dollars in supplements. Don't let them deter you, none of them followed the protocol and said it didn't work, they're crying before they even start. She starts with some simple eliminations in the liver detox, then by the adrenal you're essentially on Whole 30, and by the gut healing, you are already on AIP. I read some reviews that said they felt awful immediately on the liver detox and stopped right away. If you google side effects of liver detox, you will find a few places that tell you how you can feel sick, like old stuff you've had in the past resurfaces. For example, in the liver detox protocol, she says to eliminate sugars but then later tells you to replace coffee with hot lemon water (which dammit really worked when you think you can't live without coffee! Another frustration, you would think with her suggestions of taking a good dose of supplements, that she would give you some sort of suggested schedule. Yes she tells you how much to take of each every day, but I feel like it would have taken about an hour extra of her work to put together a grid that shows the best way to space out these supplements that can potentially cancel each other out during the liver detox. My advice to you if you want to do this: Read the whole book first, I went through the book as I went through the protocols. I wish I would have read to the end to see the whole picture, and to get to the section for advanced protocols before starting. Last piece of advice, I highly highly suggest that while you are pre-reading the book, slow down on coffee, maybe half caff for a while, then just caffeinated tea, and then that way it won't be so disturbing when you stop altogether. And google detoxing therapeutic baths, take one every day if you can during the liver detox."
"On the other hand, we have a mess of various people suggesting all sorts of lifestyle and diet interventions that are often not supported by science (for example, one notable thyroid guru who has a large following of people advises to consume large amounts of orange juice, milk, refined sugar, and to avoid omega-3s and green vegetables at all costs. In short, we have a mess of information that has the potential to easily lead people down paths that are ultimately likely to either leave people feeling like there is nothing they can do except pop thyroid pills, or alternatively, sort through a mess of information to figure out how to implement diet and lifestyle changes to benefit their thyroid health. And Izabella guides step-by-step on exactly how to correct each of the root causes, from her slow and gentle liver support and detox approach, to fixing your adrenals, to healing your gut."
Across age groups, from baby boomers and their parents to millennials and even children, more and more people—women especially—are hearing that their thyroids are to blame for their fatigue, weight gain, brain fog, memory issues, aches and pains, tingles and numbness, insomnia, hair loss, hot flashes, sensitivity to cold, constipation, bloating, anxiety, depression, heart palpitations, loss of libido, restless legs, and more. This kind, sweet, hilarious, self-effacing, and generous man—also so ‘otherworldly’ and so extraordinarily gifted, with an ability that defies how we see the world—has shocked even me, a medium! — Caroline Leavitt, New York Times best-selling author of The Kids’ Family Tree Book, Cruel Beautiful World, Is This Tomorrow, and Pictures of You. Holding my head heavy in my hands, sobbing uncontrollably at the kitchen table, not knowing which way to turn, I realized I had finally hit a wall. Through the streaming tears and heaving sobs, I whispered what I vowed never to do: ‘I give up.’ I have nothing left in knowing what is next, I pleaded to the darkness. Since then, it had been five months of consistent doctor visits, herbs and supplements, acupuncture and energetic healing work, hypnotherapy and homeopathy, psychology, medical tests and procedures, paperwork and phone calls, lab tests and consultations, medicine and vitamins, more tests, and numerous ER visits in snowstorms—all leading to a dead end and no hope in sight, with my son’s condition only slowly worsening over time. I was exhausted physically and emotionally, broken down by the relentlessness of my son’s undiagnosable stomach pain and no hope for healing. “Leaving a medical office one day, pushing my son in a wheelchair (because it was now too painful and tiring for him to walk much) down the long corridor of the medical center from which we had spent many, many hours over many months, my ten-year-old son looked up at me and said, ‘They aren’t on our side, Mom.’. “Then, the answer to my prayer arrived through a text from my mother explaining she had found someone who I should check out named Anthony William. Anthony William knew what was ailing my son within the first three minutes of our phone conversation, explaining that Calvin had a mutated shingles virus inflaming his vagus nerve. This explained the nerve pain and the lack of physical evidence in any blood work or other existing diagnostic tools. He was available to me when I needed him for follow-up calls (even in the middle of the night), emotional support, and as my cheerleader to keep me going as Calvin recovered. “It is clear how deeply committed Anthony is to his work in serving others in order that they may have the possibility to lead healthy, vibrant lives. “In 2015, my previously healthy five-year-old daughter started to develop neurological issues such as wobbly legs, frequent falls, an inability to walk when going from sitting to standing, general weakness, and decreased strength. Being a nurse for ten years and my medical community not providing me answers about why my daughter was getting worse was a hard pill to swallow. After visiting multiple doctors in several different states without any answers except ‘asthma’ and medications to treat the asthmatic symptoms, I was fortunate enough to have a session with Anthony William where he gave me specific information about the source of my son’s problems as well as holistic ways in which to repair them. It is hard to express the gratitude I feel toward Anthony William for his invaluable insight that directly led to my son’s amazing recovery into the teenager I always hoped he could be—active, healthy, happy, and enjoying life with a smile on his face and boundless energy!”.

I have healed illnesses that all the doctors could do is shrug their shoulders and hand me pills, along with the statement, "There's nothing we can really do for you". Anthony William is the only person who has ever given any true answers, and any infmation that actually helped me to heal the ROOT cause of my illnesses. That's the short version of my story - this information works because it is true, pure and untampered with. If you want the long version of my story, it's below: I have about a page of diagnoses that it took years of searching to get before I finally found Anthony William's book. I'll list some of them: Fibromyalgia, Mast Cell Activation Disorder, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Hypothyroid, PCOS, Migraines, PTSD, Depression, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Dysautonomia/POTS, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, Sleep Apnea,....there are more diagnoses, but that's enough, you get the picture, right? I was homebound for almost a year because I was essentially allergic to the world and would react to all kinds of things wherever I went. I was unable to prepare food, or do dishes or laundry or keep my house clean. I had homeschooled my son and was unable to do that anymore - the only time I left my house was for doctors' appointments, and I had to always be driven by my husband because I had lost the ability to drive a car. I had less than zero energy, I felt horrible all the time, I was in terrible all over body pain and had crazy brain fog. I ate what I believed to be SO cleanly - all organic, grassfed, free-range meats and eggs, no grains or dairy, no nightshades, autoimmune paleo, low FODMAP. But he also worked 40 hours a week, took care of our son, made our food, did all of the grocery shopping and other errands, took care of the house and 1.5 acre yard, was getting our house ready to sell - I had zero idea how I was going to do this cleanse, how I could possibly pull it off with no energy to make any food. My energy was highest (I use that term very loosely) in the morning, so okay, let's see if I can manage to make some celery juice. At the time I only had a Vitamix, no juicer, so I used that and a tiny bit of water to blend the celery, then strained it through a nut milk bag. And still surprisingly, I had enough energy that day to make myself a morning smoothie after the celery juice. It went on like that as I did the cleanse - by Day 3 I began to blog it, because it was a freaking miracle happening to me, I couldn't believe it. But I got into the groove eventually, and the last week of the cleanse I did add in cooked potato to slow down the detox a bit. One day I realized I'd forgotten to call in my Low Dose Naltrexone prescription, because I no longer needed it to take the edge off the pain! My EDS symptoms like constant subluxations and pain - G. O. N. E. I can hardly believe how much has healed. My rosacea is healing, a raised mole I had completely disappeared, and listen, my friends, this is not just me I am talking about - I am by no means an anomaly here. I"m happy to answer any real questions you have about this work, but if you're on the fence and wondering if you should buy this (and the other two books) and if you can heal?"
"When it comes to my health, I always want to know and heal the ROOT cause of a problem. Since finding Anthony William and the Medical Medium books 6 months ago, I’ve had thousands of “Aha!” moments, moments when I both realized the accurate root cause of a health struggle or repeated symptom, and exactly what I can do to heal it myself, and in the most efficient way possible. Since finding these books, I’ve experienced better and better health every month. I haven’t finished it yet, so I’ll update the review soon, but already this book has masive amounts of new empowering, clear, and accurate information on the why and how of so many symptoms/illnesses, and what the heck to do for outstanding health and freedom from disease and health challenges. It also has more in-depth healing protocols (with new 90-day healing plans), it addresses how to adjust if you are sensitive to detoxing too fast, and wonderful recipes for making delicious healing foods for the whole family."
"I just wanted to share my healing story for all those who are out there and considering whether they should buy this book or not. For the past 25 years I went to every doctor for my Fibromyalgia, Low thyroid, Pain, Brain Fog, Tremors, Dizziness, cold all the time, severe depression, weight gain. If you have any kind of thyroid problem then this book is your only answer, it’s the only truth out there."

“Essential reading for anyone interested in understanding and treating traumatic stress and the scope of its impact on society.” —Alexander McFarlane, Director of the Centre for Traumatic Stress Studies A pioneering researcher transforms our understanding of trauma and offers a bold new paradigm for healing in this New York Times Science bestseller Trauma is a fact of life. Praise for The Body Keeps the Score “In this inspirational work which seamlessly weaves keen clinical observation, neuroscience, historical analysis, the arts, and personal narrative, Dr. van der Kolk has created an authoritative guide to the effects of trauma, and pathways to recovery. A must read for mental health and other health care professionals, trauma survivors, their loved ones, and those who seek clinical, social, or political solutions to the cycle of trauma and violence in our society.” —Rachel Yehuda, Ph.D., professor of psychiatry and neuroscience, director of the Traumatic Stress Studies Division at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, NY “This is an absolutely fascinating and clearly written book by one of the nation’s most experienced physicians in the field of emotional trauma. “Breathtaking in its scope and breadth, The Body Keeps the Score is a seminal work by one of the preeminent pioneers in trauma research and treatment. Van der Kolk, the eminent impresario of trauma treatment, who has spent a career bringing together diverse trauma scientists and clinicians and their ideas, while making his own pivotal contributions, describes what is arguably the most important series of breakthroughs in mental health in the last thirty years. Here we see not only how psychological trauma also breaks connections within the brain, but also between mind and body, and learn about the exciting new approaches that allow people with the severest forms of trauma to put all the parts back together again.” —Norman Doidge, author of The Brain That Changes Itself. “ The Body Keeps the Score articulates new and better therapies for toxic stress based on a deep understanding of the effects of trauma on brain development and attachment systems. Bessel van der Kolk may focus on the body and trauma, but what a mind he must have to have written this book.”. Its deeply empathic, insightful, and compassionate perspective promises to further humanize the treatment of trauma victims, dramatically expand their repertoire of self-regulatory healing practices and therapeutic options, and also stimulate greater creative thinking and research on trauma and its effective treatment. The body does keep the score, and Van der Kolk’s ability to demonstrate this through compelling descriptions of the work of others, his own pioneering trajectory and experience as the field evolved and him along with it, and above all, his discovery of ways to work skillfully with people by bringing mindfulness to the body (as well as to their thoughts and emotions) through yoga, movement, and theater are a wonderful and welcome breath of fresh air and possibility in the therapy world.”. “In The Body Keeps the Score we share the author’s courageous journey into the parallel dissociative worlds of trauma victims and the medical and psychological disciplines that are meant to provide relief. “Bessel van der Kolk is unequaled in his ability to synthesize the stunning developments in the field of psychological trauma over the past few decades. —Ruth A. Lanius, MD, PhD, Harris-Woodman chair in Psyche and Soma, professor of psychiatry, and director PTSD research at the University of Western Ontario; author of The Impact of Early Life Trauma on Health and Disease. Interspersed with that narrative are clear and understandable descriptions of the neurobiology of trauma; explanations of the ineffectiveness of traditional approaches to treating trauma; and introductions to the approaches that take patients beneath their cognitive minds to heal the parts of them that remained frozen in the past. “When it comes to understanding the impact of trauma and being able to continue to grow despite overwhelming life experiences, Bessel van der Kolk leads the way in his comprehensive knowledge, clinical courage, and creative strategies to help us heal. Dr. Van der Kolk offer a brilliant synthesis of clinical cases, neuroscience, powerful tools and caring humanity, offering a whole new level of healing for the traumas carried by so many.”. The only way to ‘communicate’ with this pre-verbal system is through the body, which can signal to the brain stem that it is OK to begin the process of unfreezing the emotional paralysis that has plagued us for decades. UPDATE 2018: One of the treatments that Bessel van der Kolk mentions in his book - MDMA (Ecstasy) - was recently granted ‘Breakthrough Therapy’ status by the FDA for phase 3 trials. This is because the phase 1 and 2 trials were so successful, that nearly 70% of participants no longer had PTSD after just 3 MDMA sessions (most of these participants had suffered PTSD for decades)."
"I believed I could gut it out, that the past was the past and that only weak people needed to talk through their problems. I believed only losers behaved badly as adults due to anything in their childhood or past and that claiming you were affected by any past problem was a crutch to allow you to embrace failure. It's very hard to be kind to people, to focus on your work, to love others when all your power is spent trying to pretend you don't feel like s***. When you see everything you have go away and can only occasionally find the strength to take care of yourself and your business and need others in your life to carry you from time to time (much to your embarrassment) and yet you think you're smart and capable and have no understanding of why you are where you are, life becomes a slog. While I can't attribute every part of my success to this book alone as it takes many things to get where you want to go (mostly you), I can absolutely attest to the power of this book. If you've suffered any sort of major and/or persistent trauma in your life, please buy (and read) this book."

Gundry, MD, a distinguished heart disease physician, researcher, and inventor, has successfully treated tens of thousands of patients with the Plant Paradox Program (PPP) or Keto Plant Paradox Intensive Care Program—nutritional treatments he created. After about 30 days, I suffered from bouts of burping and farting for about ten days—symptoms caused by withdrawing from my unhealthy diet and starting a healthy one. One way to view this book is as Dr. Gundry's prescription for people interested in being as healthy as possible. For example, I checked all of the salad dressings in two health food stores and couldn't find an acceptable one. Good news: Patricia suggests ways to economize (from her Comment on her 04/27/2017 review). "Buying a pressure cooker to make them [legumes] safe to eat would pay for itself; beans are so inexpensive, and can replace more of the expensive pastured, grass-fed, and wild-caught animal proteins." "Make omega-3 eggs a large percentage of the animal protein you get - fortunately these are more and more available at supermarkets for about $5 a dozen, sometimes even less." More bad news: Avoid sugar, agave, Splenda, NutraSweet, Sweet 'n Low, cows' milk, diet drinks, maltodextrin. Some excerpts: grass-fed and grass-finished beef and lamb; humanely raised pork; wild game; pastured chicken, turkey, duck; pastured or omega-3 eggs; wild-caught Alaskan salmon, Alaskan halibut, freshwater bass, shrimp, crab; red wine (6 oz./day); goat cheese; coconut yogurt; broccoli; brussels sprouts; cauliflower; kale; napa cabbage; spinach; red and green leaf lettuce; romaine; limited amounts of blueberries, raspberries, apples, cherries, peaches, crispy pears, etc. The value of this book is enhanced by its meal plans for the PPP's three phases, an abundance of recipes, a comprehensive index, and a flowing writing style. Dr. Gundry has made a once-in-a-generation, groundbreaking contribution to our knowledge of diet's role in reversing and preventing both minor and major diseases. Also, the pain in my left hip changed from "greatly improved" to completely disappeared."

Over the past 30 years I have suffered from Irritable Bowel Syndrome – with all its gory effects, and recently it seemed to be getting worse. Mind you, we eat very carefully in our house – small portions, little pasta, no junk food, no pizza, no fried chicken or fried food or any kind, no canned goods, no ice cream or big desserts, no beer, no sodas or diet sodas. In performing more research, I discovered and read Dr. Raphael Kellman’s book “The Microbiome Diet, and also listened to a video of Dr. Terry Wahls’. Fifteen years ago, I gave up muffins and granola (mostly carbohydrates) for breakfast. I was so proud of myself for switching to one small piece of 7-grain toast with natural nutty peanut butter, a banana, and a glass of milk (in addition to coffee) for breakfast. Ditto for the BBQ-baked beans I had come to have with every dinner, not to mention the small helping each night of mustard potato salad that I had with my corn and grain-fed meat loaded with antibiotics! I am now a believer in Dr. Gundry’s diet and more important, the power of his scientifically documented medical knowledge and health recommendations. On May 7th and 8th I sort of eased into his diet – starting with taking Dr. Gundry’s Vital Reds supplements. My goal over the next few months is to get to about 172 pounds, a weight that I was comfortable with for about 20 years a long time ago. In addition, even in this short amount of time, my IBS symptoms have lessened dramatically, my skin isn’t as dry, and I seem to be feeling pretty good! I find I like them a lot better mixed with additional foods like red onions, vinegar, and the like. I will update this review every couple of months to keep you all appraised of my progress and the benefits to me of my new Dr. Gundry diet. July 7, 2017. I thought I’d give interested readers an update on my 60 days on Dr. Gundry’s diet. Every day, at a minimum, I have a green smoothie, a hard-boiled egg, and Dr. Gundry’s turkey chorizo sausage and spinach muffin, plus various meats and fish protein, along with his recommended vegetables. I must say, though, it’s a bit tougher to stay on Gundry’s limit of 6 ounces of red wine per evening! Scallops and shrimp are especially easy to cook – just fry them in avocado oil with a bit of garlic. That makes it fast and easy to pull four leftover jumbo shrimps or a chicken thigh out of the fridge the next day for lunch, along with a smoothie and a cup of yogurt. My doctor recommended MiraLAX, or you could take Metamucil, but raw vegetables and/or flaxseed and/or prune juice are better for you. Her book has more specifics on blood marker numbers, nutritional content of foods, and some great recipes. After reading Dr. Wahls’ book, I am changing my B12 pills to sublingual ones, and adding CoQ (Qunol’s Ubiquinol) and Emerald Sea’s seaweed powder to my daily intake. I was particularly interested to read about Dr. Wahls’ progress from a “conventionally trained” MD to a practitioner of the much more holistic functional medicine. As far as I know, Dr. Gundry’s, Dr. Wahls’, and perhaps Dr. Raphael Kellman’s current books represent the state-of-the-art in functional medicine regarding self-healing through diet."

Find Best Price at Amazon"If you are considering purchasing this book and are reading the reviews (both good and bad) you will quickly see that this book stirs up all kinds of highly emotional responses. When you read this book, it is important to understand that there is an overall concept here that many illnesses and symptoms, that so many suffer from, are a "mystery" to current medical practices. For someone who does a quick read through, with the bias of what most people believe to be true, the information in this book can appear deceivingly simple and perhaps even nothing new. However, if you take the opportunity to read this book with "beginner’s mind" (as one of my best teachers likes to say), you may find that this book has some considerable things to teach. This can be hard to do, and yet, the way this book is suggesting to heal is so brilliant and kind and gentle, that it should actually be the first step that we all take with our bodies. It took me awhile to get it when working with Anthony because it really is a different way to think about healing and what is actually going on in our bodies than we have been told. A practitioner that I went to many years ago told me a story that helped me in my own healing and being able to grasp how important the information in this book is. It is this that Anthony and Spirit are writing about in this book. Since it is a common question in many reviews, I want to clarify that I purchased the book, that I have actually read the book, and I was not offered anything to write this review. I am writing this review because I have experienced firsthand a total transformation from debilitating chronic illness and getting my life back, through the help of Anthony and the Spirit that speaks to him. I went to my physician and told him of my phone call and what Anthony and Spirit had told me and my physician said "you are the 4th patient of mine to talk to this guy and he has been spot on every time." Anthony and Spirit taught me how to take ownership and control over the healing process. The child was under the age of 5 and because both the doctor and Anthony knew that giving antibiotics to a child that young, when they have the flu, could potentially be damaging, they came up with a protocol to help my child through the healing process and keep her safe from harm of any side effects of the two illnesses or potential damaging medications. So yes, I do have a bias, but the bias is that I have experienced firsthand the healing methods laid out in this book and the kind and compassionate nature of Anthony William. Hence, the need to start writing books, and the need to have a staff of people working for him. Anthony William is just one man and there are millions, if not more, who have the potential to be helped by the information in this book."
"I got sick with what could be labeled Chronic Fatigue Syndrome - and a whole lot of other things eventually - just weeks after the floor and after a winter of feeding moldy hay. We bought a full spectrum infrared sauna since Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt highly rec's them for his Lyme patients. Just after the sauna purchase, I saw the free MM chapter on Facebook and followed the link. I was intrigued by the notion that Lyme was really viral and it made sense to me that THAT is why 1) antibiotics fail and in fact can make it worse and (yes, i experienced this) and 2) the sauna would work b/c it raises core body temperature which is then anti-viral. I'm now on day 3 of the cleanse, working on my adrenals, liver, and blood sugar (yup, forgot to mention that but my paleo diet landed me with pre-diabetes). If I didnt get dx with Lyme, I wouldnt have paid any attention to the free chapter. AW has really changed my paradigm as what he knows is often radically different than my ahead-of-the-curve functional medicine training."

The Plant Paradox shows the world what pioneer thinking is about and is a must-read book for anyone interested in being as healthy as nature has designed them to be.” — Alejandro Junger MD , New York Times bestselling author of Clean, Clean Gut and Clean Eats. Americans spend billions of dollars on gluten-free diets in an effort to protect their health. Once ingested, they incite a kind of chemical warfare in our bodies, causing inflammatory reactions that can lead to weight gain and serious health conditions. At his waitlist-only clinics in California, Dr. Gundry has successfully treated tens of thousands of patients suffering from autoimmune disorders, diabetes, leaky gut syndrome, heart disease, and neurodegenerative diseases with a protocol that detoxes the cells, repairs the gut, and nourishes the body. Whether you’re paleo, gluten-free, low-carb or plant-based, Dr. Gundry’s profound insights and practical advice will help reverse both autoimmune and neurodegenerative disease.” ( Terry Wahls, MD, author of The Wahls Protocol: A Radical New Way to Treat All Chronic Autoimmune Conditions Using Paleo Principles ). “Once in a generation a doctor and a book comes along that completely changes the way we think about food and our health. Dr. Gundry is that physician and The Plant Paradox is that book.

Find Best Price at Amazon"Steven R.

I've tried treating the yeast infection with antibiotics, a watered down hydrogen peroxide douche, and boric acid suppositories. I use 1 liter of water to 2 TB sea salt and pour it over a mixture of chopped veggies and let it sit on my counter for 7 days. I also purchased water kefir granules 2 years ago from an online shop that only sells that and they are still healthy and creating wonderful drinks. Teas with flavored stevias (specifically vanilla cream) and my recipe for homemade healthy kettle corn has helped me greatly."

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER. “As sweet and funny and sad and true and heartfelt a memoir as one could find.” —from the foreword by Augusten Burroughs Ever since he was young, John Robison longed to connect with other people, but by the time he was a teenager, his odd habits—an inclination to blurt out non sequiturs, avoid eye contact, dismantle radios, and dig five-foot holes (and stick his younger brother, Augusten Burroughs, in them)—had earned him the label “social deviant.” It was not until he was forty that he was diagnosed with a form of autism called Asperger’s syndrome. *Starred Review* If one looked at only Robison's impish sense of humor (he once ordered a blow-up sex doll to be delivered to his junior-high-school teacherat school), or his success as a classic-car restorer, it might be impossible to believe he has the high-functioning form of autism spectrum disorder called Asperger's syndrome. Clues abound, however, in his account of a youth encompassing serious inability to make and keep friends; early genius at pyrotechnics, electronics, and math; and pet names such as Poodle for his dog and Snort and Varmint for his baby brother.

"I did not do any hydrotherapy or home enemas, but I did a 2-day apple cleanse, cut out all sugar, white flour, nightshades and coffee, and began a regime of Slippery Elm Bark tea in the mornings and lemon water throughout the day. Since then, I have stayed 100% off nightshades but have reintroduced very limited quantities of white flour, sugar and decaf black coffee. A couple notes: ** I found sea salt baths to be helpful as my body healed itself. ** I used a topical prescription treatment to help speed things along (Clobex spray), but I plan to stop using it in the next week or so as I get closer to 100% clear. ** I found Burt's Bees Miracle Salve to be a great product for my nipples. I have since switched to the adult version of Burt's Bees Shampoo and think the gentle formula has been a welcome change for my scalp as it heals. She ate a full filet of salmon with two cobs of corn and a full cup of great northern beans with onions and garlic. Needless to say, tomorrow we will be back on this diet permanently with only an infrequent special occasion to interrupt it. If you suffer from type 2 diabetes but are willing to dedicate yourself to this diet, make no mistake, it will reverse your disease and give you a great chance at a long, complication-free life. 8-17-2016 UPDATE. New test results from recent blood work: Triglycerides six week ago - 259."
"I started the ADA diet and followed it 100% for a few weeks and could not get my blood sugar to go below 140. I started the diet that day and the next morning my blood sugar was down to 100, the next day was in the 90's and now i have a fasting blood sugar between Mid 70's and the 80's. My doctor took me off the metformin after just one week of being on this lifestyle change."
"When I read the recipes in the back of the book I thought they were so radical that no one, unless they were, 'on death's doorstep', would eat that way. I was diagnosed with diabetes two years ago and since then, my life has been a rollercoaster between feeling awful and just fair. I'm also eating steel cut oats and taking red rice yeast. I see on his website you can sign up, for a nominal sum, and get additional recipes and recommendations, etc., personally, I think that's, 'milking', it but, that's just my opinion. When I began this way of eating, my blood sugar was 7.8 and my doctor wanted to start me on insulin...which I was VERY opposed to. AND, although I stick to it about 99% I do use olive oil when I want to, I eat grilled shrimp on a caesar salad smothered in grated cheese occasionally."

After that, I just skimmed until I found the one chapter talking about recovery in very general terms, such as it took her 4-5 years before she could add and subtract again. I gave the book to my mom who is apparently finding it more interesting than me."

Best Parkinson's Disease
Now, with the same passion, humor, and energy that Fox has invested in his dozens of performances over the last 18 years, he tells the story of his life, his career, and his campaign to find a cure for Parkinson's. Combining his trademark ironic sensibility and keen sense of the absurd, he recounts his life--from his childhood in a small town in western Canada to his meteoric rise in film and television which made him a worldwide celebrity. He talks about what Parkinson's has given him: the chance to appreciate a wonderful life and career, and the opportunity to help search for a cure and spread public awareness of the disease. The Foundation will move aggressively to identify the most promising research and raise the funds to assure that a cure is found for the millions of people living with this disorder. The same sharp intelligence and self-deprecating wit that made Michael J. Fox a star in the Family Ties TV series and Back to the Future make this a lot punchier than the usual up-from-illness celebrity memoir.

"As someone who has an incurable degenerative muscle disorder, I could relate so much to Michael and his struggles described in this book."
"Fantastic book and highly recommended with a poisitive message to his readers. Now that he allowed us to have an insight into his inner world, it was amazing to see what he could do to make things go right and to an end phenomena of a positive point despite his condition. Which show how much his self determinism view, is so important and above all that he was willing to sacrifice his life. The language he uses is literate and reading his book is very enjoyable, leaving us with a message of, no mercy, but "one can always do something about it"."
"I was diagnosed with MS about 5 years ago and I find such a connection with Michael J Fox and his struggle to come to terms with his disease."
"Meant to read this long ago, bought it for my kindle when it first released."
"He feels that he has grown so much in a positive way from his post Parkinson's diagnosis experiences. I only got it because it was the cheap Kindle deal of the day and thought it would be an interesting read. I remember when I first saw him on the show (it was the episode where he made some great investments in the stock market) that I thought he did have "something." He makes you feel like you kind of know him and as a result you are curious about his other performances."

Best Hearing Problems
By turns heart-tugging and hilarious, Myron Uhlberg’s memoir tells the story of growing up as the hearing son of deaf parents—and his life in a world that he found unaccountably beautiful, even as he longed to escape it. “Does sound have rhythm?” my father asked. These worlds come together in this work, his first for adults, as Uhlberg, who has written several children's books (including Dad, Jackie, and Me , which won a 2006 Patterson Prize) effortlessly weaves his way through a childhood of trying to interpret the speaking world for his parents while trying to learn the lessons of life from the richly executed Technicolor language of his father's hands.

The love in this book is nearly overwhelming - from the initial lack from their parents and then the author fills in the blanks from stories told so beautifully its as if you can see them playing before you in your own kitchen."
"It is a great book."
"Having been a French teacher for forty years I really enjoyed the author's detailed description of how beautiful and more descriptive sign language is than spoken languages are."
"I am deaf myself, this book helped me understand better what my children has been through even though we live in different times."
"As an ASL II student I found this story well told and very emotional."
"This is a story told by a virtually unknown master with a mighty heart, as well as an ability to craft the truth with the precision ordinarily discounted by the very use of language. A tale of a kid from Brooklyn, born during the darkest years of the Great Depression to a deaf Mom and Pop becomes a parable for the most universal, heartfelt yearnings, ambivalence and imaginings of which human consciousness is capable. As an infant born to two deaf parents the majesty of life, sound, linguistic nuance and sign language have been fused with a gifted story teller's mind to create one of the great surprises of my reading experience."
"To see the world through the eye's of a child of deaf parents is to see the world like no other."

"In “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks,” Rebecca Skloot introduces us to the “real live woman,” the children who survived her, and the interplay of race, poverty, science and one of the most important medical discoveries of the last 100 years. Skloot narrates the science lucidly, tracks the racial politics of medicine thoughtfully and tells the Lacks family’s often painful history with grace. When science appears, it does so effortlessly, with explanations of cell anatomy or techniques like “fluorescence in situ hybridization” seamlessly worked into descriptions of the coloured wards of Johns Hopkins hospital to Lacks’s hometown of Clover, Virginia. And yet for all its grand scope, skilful writing and touching compassion, there is one simple element that makes As a final thought, I was struck by the parallels between Henrietta’s cells and her story."
"This decisive, detailed, superbly written history of the HeLa cells that have played such a highly significant role in many arenas of medical research delves deeply into both the scientific and personal stories of Henrietta Lacks and her family."
"A legacy, kept hidden for over 20+ years from Henrietta Lack's family and those of us,who are not privy to the inner circles of the medical and science community."
"Skloot did a terrific job spending years gathering information from the family and researching scientific discoveries related to the cells."
"Incredible true story of a woman's legacy, from the usage of her DNA without consent, to the medical miracles her stolen contribution made, to the injustices her family faced decades later."

Best Heart Disease
The New York Times bestselling guide to the lifesaving diet that can both prevent and help reverse the effects of heart disease Based on the groundbreaking results of his twenty-year nutritional study, Prevent. and Reverse Heart Disease by Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn illustrates that a plant-based, oil-free diet can not only prevent the progression of heart disease but can also reverse its effects. Caldwell Esselstyn has directed pioneering research demonstrating that the progression of even severe coronary heart disease can often be reversed by making comprehensive change in diet and lifestyle.“. —Dean Ornish, M.D, founder, president and director of Preventive Medicine Research Institute and author of Dr. Dean Ornish’s Program for Reversing Heart Disease. His focus on the healing powers of proper nutrition on diseased coronary arteries has now proven right, raising another unthinkable notion—that heart patients can cure themselves.”. —Bernadine Healy, M.D., former Director of the National Institutes of Health. “A hard nosed scientist shows us his secrets for successfully cleaning the rusting arteries of so many patients - and it doesn't even hurt.”. —Mehmet Oz, M.D., coauthor, You: The Owner’s Manual. "I have a gym in my garage, with pull-up tower and padded floor and TV/DVD player. In other words, I was in pretty good shape and thought I was OK. On April 8, 2013, I had just finished exercising. I noticed a slight numbness in my left arm. Told my wife to take me to the new heart hospital, conveniently located about 1 1/2 miles from my house. 45 minutes after walking into the ER, I was being wheeled into my room with 2 stents installed. The Cardiologist said that in my main artery, towards the center of my chest, I had 100% blockage. In the other main artery, on the other side of my heart, there is 50% blockage. I went to Amazon and looked for books on cardiovascular disease. My wife and I read the reviews and decided to give it a try. Since we started the plant eating lifestyle, she doesn't have stomach aches anymore. A friend of mine watched the Forks Over Knives documentary with his parents and they all decided to try it. At the start of the plant diet, his blood sugar was 253. After one week of plant eating he dropped 120 points! It works Yesterday my Cardiologist said that I am doing so great that he doesn't need to see me for 6 months!"
"Using the information in Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease, I now eat a plant-based diet, which I've been on for a couple of months now. My rule of thumb is this: If it had a mother and a father (beef, chicken, turkey, fish, etc. Since I've been eating plant-based foods only -- and there's a LOT to choose from -- my blood pressure has dropped, I've lost about 14 pounds, I sleep far more soundly, my thinking is clearer, I have more energy, etc. UPDATE: I've now lost 20 pounds, and another blood draw revealed that my cholesterol level has dropped 30 points."
"More people should read it before they find themselves needing to go to the doctor."
"Extreme diet for those with heart disease, can be followed rigorously by those who want to prevent heart disease (in my opinion)."

Find Best Price at Amazon"Then late Dec 2012 - PT is great until one rushed day when she stretched my right leg too far too fast. I tried everything over the next few months - acupuncture, chiropractor, spine drs, orthopedist, physiatrist, neurologist, steroid shot, supplements, stretching, walking through the pain, ice, heat, epsom salt baths 3+ times a day, etc etc. I used to run, bike 40 miles a week, garden, now I was reduced to a cane and suggestions of back surgery in less than a couple of months of being in great shape and NO pain?? So I was going through a review of what, I do not remember, maybe a supplement that might alleviate pain, and it mentions looking into trigger point therapy. I come home and my husband comes out to help me, worried that I am going to be in a bad place pain wise. For low back pain, your glutes carry some heavy duty trigger points. It's is some work to keep up with all the trigger points that crop up but I do it while watching TV or listening to music. BTW, if you stretch a tired or cold muscle too fast/too hard it can set off a trigger point. If I had known about trigger point therapy, I could have saved myself from a year of hell on me and my family, as well as the bills. I recommend a cleaner diet, exercise, fresh air and constant movement versus just sitting. Excessive sitting and lying around make soft tissue pain worse. I love Tiger Balm for night time stiffness or to help get your circulation going on a painful spot. There are also some good videos and a Ted Talk on the science of pain in the brain that are worth watching. I took a nasty fall on my bike last week and was totally panicked, as I have not fully recovered from this past year's trauma. I got into the habit of using the lacrosse ball and it works well, but I started to get more pain in the hips & tightness in lower back. YouTube has many instructional videos on how to work out TrP if the book is too technical or if you need a visual. You have to be careful with the QL muscles (most of us have TrPs there but don't know it until you get in there with a small TrP ball) or you might cause back spasms. I had a chiropractor overwork my QL's and set off a horrific week of spasms before I discovered TrP therapy. I joined a gym for the 1st time in a decade to get me through this hard Boston winter and was surprised how many people at the gym were ending their workouts with trigger point therapy methods - rolling out on balls or foam rollers, trainers using them on clients, etc. )I have found great pain release from working these hard to reach glute points. For some women in major hormone flux it can be severe enough for you to be diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome or fibromyalgia. Yes there are some true cases of those diseases that are not related to hormones or trigger points, but there are also women being misdiagnosed & sent home with RX's for anti-depressants & way too strong pain meds. A balanced - KEY WORD IS BALANCED - hormone therapy (like bio hormone replacements) as well as exercise, diet, TrP, and improved digestion (which diminished greatly around 40-45 in women) will make a difference in your pain levels.I am working with a gifted endocrinologist who tests my blood 2x a month so we can get the best picture how to manage my perimenopause. I do not have CFS or fibromyalgia, but I do notice that trigger points crop up more often now that my blood tests reveal I am primenopausal. I travel with 2 sizes of balls when I fly so that I can roll out those knots that can happen after being cramped on a plane. *UPDATE* August 31, 2016. I am still actively and successfully using TrP therapy to manage my low back, as well as misc aches and pains that crop up. About 3 times a week I spend a half hour or more with my super bounce rubber ball and a concrete wall. I ruptured my L4-L5 disc in my late 20's, which puts my low back at a higher risk for aches and pain when I sit too long on something soft, or work too hard in the garden. Before I found this therapy, I used to get so tight, manage my aches with Advil, and wait for it to pass, usually a few days. Now that I know what to do, I roll out my calf trigger points right away & find relief within a day. I wish physical therapists would introduce a home regimen of TrP in addition to the exercise plan for recovery and relief. Just an interesting anecdote - JK Rowling (author of Harry Potter series for the handful of those that might not know) has tweeted this year about having back pain that feels better when she digs into it with the corner of her sofa."
"I'm from Argentina so excuse me if I make some mistakes in writing this English since it is not my native language. Today I was recommending the Trigger Point Therapy to some friends over facebook, so looking for the link, I found the website, and suddenly I remembered. Years back I was diagnosed with a small, tiny displacement of a vertebra on my neck. I found a book about TMJ self treatments, and Amazon had an offer for the Trigger Point Therapy along with this one. And thanks to the AMAZING illustrations (I'm a graphic designer, so I can testify on their perfection) I decided to begin searching for the trigger point. My neck was feeling like before the roller coaster ride, I felt perfectly healthy and good. Every time myself or a family member experience this type of pain, I take my book out and teach them how to treat it."
"It is not a cure all, and definitely won't work for everything, but if you were buy one book on the subject of eliminating your musculoskeletal pain, this is it."
"Very helpful locating source of and relieving actual pain."
"One can gain both a broad and detailed understanding of Trigger Points including causation of pain, source vs. actual location of pain, and various manner of therapeutic treatment approaches and options."
"really good info!"
"Excellent book, however much too technical for me and probably for most people who need help with modalities."
