Fodor's Pacific Northwest: Portland, Seattle, Vancouver & the Best of Oregon and Washington (Full-color Travel Guide)
This dramatic region stretching from British Columbia to Oregon provides pristine wilderness areas to explore--from coastlines to mountains--as well as vibrant metropolitan scenes in Seattle, Portland, and Vancouver. UP-TO-DATE COVERAGE: New hotel and restaurant reviews cover recently opened properties throughout the region along with special focus on Portland and the popular brewery and winery scenes. “Fodor’s is pitched a few notches higher….aimed at a fairly discerning traveler with an appetite for background and the occasional surprise.” – New York Times.
Reviews
"FODOR'S PACIFIC NORTHWEST is a great guide to the Pacific Northwest, with heavy emphases on Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver, the best of Oregon and Washington, and a small section on Victoria, British Columbia."
"Not deep description of places."
"Like most Fodor’s books this one is best read all the way through if you’re trying to choose an area to see, or read the whole section on a particular area to get a great fell of the offerings and where you may what to spend additional time. Hood, Central Oregon, Crater Lake National Park, Southern Oregon, Seattle, Washington Cascade Mountains and Valleys, San Juan Islands, Olympic National Park, Olympic Peninsula and Washington Coast, North Cascades National Park, North Central Washington, Mount Rainier National Park, Washington Wine Country, Spokane and Eastern Washington, Vancouver and Victoria."
"The bonus is the included content for Vancouver BC, and it is really appreciated (I am staying in Vancouver over Thanksgiving weekend this year - I'll update afterwards if there is anything pertinent to add). It seems odd this was left out since they do tend to get good press and are recommended by virtually every winery I've ever visited here. The Seattle section covers a lot of the sightseeing: Space Needle, Music Experience, Pike Place Market, Ferries, Aquarium, etc... You definitely get a good feel for each city and can easily discern what the main takeaway of travel to each place would be."
"The "Pacific Northwest" is a very broad area."

Fodor's Pacific Northwest: with Oregon, Washington & Vancouver (Full-color Travel Guide)
With the growing interest in adventure travel, national parks, hip cities, and wine and micro-breweries, the Pacific Northwest attracts a huge number of visitors every year. Besieged by the icy monotony of seemingly endless months of snow and slush, the prospect of going off somewhere in the bright sunshine with the kids when they’re out of school looms as, quite literally, a life saver. And now that they were older, attending or on the verge of college, I wanted them to have an experience that would engage their minds, get them thinking about the vastness and diversity of an America that they, as parochial New Englanders, too often ignore. Also, I must admit, my deliberations were influenced by the experiences I had while researching The Floor of Heaven , my new non-fiction book that follows a cowboy turned Pinkerton detective as he goes off to solve a puzzling and dangerous case during the Yukon Gold Rush. And to guide me on this incipient journey, to help me plan it over the long, snowy months, I delved into the new 18th edition of Fodor’s Pacific Northwest . And the orange stars are the sort of “must see” alert that, along with the easy-to-read maps, make planning both simple and filled with great expectations of what’s to come. We’re going to fly to Seattle, do some coffee-house crawling and a trip to the gold rush museum, then rent a car and follow the 101 around Olympic National Park before looping around and heading back the way we came.

"Cruising up there can be very complex....considering ship traffic, reefs that are close to the water surface, floating logs that can separate an outdrive from the boat in a nanosecond, and private or shallow areas that it is a good idea to stay away from."
"A must have for cruising down sound or in the San Juan Islands."
"We constantly use this book for boating in the puget sound."
"the wire coil back is a pain to deal with."
"We've been sailing in the San Juans for over 30 years and still found this book helpful."
"The spiral binding is very nice which allows the pages to lay flat and the heavy cover tucks acound them when the book is closed to protect the page edges - a great touch. I expect this will be a book we will really use this season."
"Great book for cruising the Sound."
"The Waggoner book that was in our charter boat was much better but our favorite was San Juan Islands Cruise Guide: A Boaters Handbook for Camping the San Juan's and Surrounding Area by Cummins."

Kevin Allen is the author or coauthor of more than a dozen sports books, including Brett: His Own Story , Star-Spangled Hockey: Celebrating 75 Years of USA Hockey , and Without Fear: Hockey’s 50 Greatest Goaltenders .
Reviews
"I enjoyed the pranks, and coach interactions the most and would have loved to hear more. I thought it was funny that he had a full size refrigerator in his dorm room stocked with beer. Not very classy - knowing that the Blackhawk owner and the coach at the time were not extending his contract, but had a spot for him in the front office."
"While this isn't as poetically presented as other similar books, there is a lot of important information, as chelios played for 3 decades in the nhl."
"It was the best book I've ever read."
"He does talk about being a Badger and even more about Madison bars."
"As I read this autobiography of Chicago native Chris Chelios, I would swear that it was a discussion that he and I were having about his hockey career."
"According to the reader (a former 10-year travel hockey player) he says there are some really interesting stories Chelios shares and he feels it is well worth the money."
"His passion for the game and all out commitment to be the best he good be for as long as he played the game gave me a respect for Chris that more players could learn from."
"Mostly a chronological telling of Cheli's career, with some amusing anecdotes and efforts to "set the record straight" on key moments."

"The maps in "Top 10 Toronto" were easy to read, and helpful when using rapid transit. However, the maps are a bit small, even the pull-out map that comes with the guidebook.
