"Andrew Weil. For months I've been listening to this CD set, trying to integrate the principles of Dr. Weil's teachings into my life. By increasing whole grains (I now eat a mixture of pumpkin seeds, roasted corn and roasted soy), discovering new natural remedies and exploring the ideas of how the body is always seeking to regain balance, I have learned a great deal about integrative medicine. Instead of just trying to solve problems as they occur, Dr. Weil seeks to encourage a preventative lifestyle that includes healthy choices and healing herbs. Cooking can become a healing meditation, buying yourself flowers promotes healing and remembering to spend time in nature can encourage positive emotional states. Simple ideas like adding blueberries to pancakes or eating more fiber with meals can increase your health."
"He gives quite a detailed explanation of all aspects of healthy living from the foods you eat, shopping at healthfood stores, options for relaxation techniques, various different types of healing alternatives and which ones seem to work for different ailments."

Reviews
"It doesn't say "do 50 pushups", it says "spend a few minutes walking" and "spend a few minutes observing your breath". I did lose a substantial amount of weight during my eight weeks, even though this book isn't necessarily intended as a weight loss plan. I don't view this as a plan to cure disease or even to lose weight, but rather as a foundation for a better everyday lifestyle."
"I am reading it for the 3rd time as part of a refresher program for my nutrition studies."
"handy reference guide in the rear for stores, and herbal remedies."
"Very informative and step by step to take you to a better place...very realistic goals!"
"Weil also stresses the importance of spiritual and mental wellness - the idea that you can get every aspect of your diet, exercise supplements right, but if you aren't nurturing loving relationships and taking the time to relax, recharge and practice mindfulness/breathing techniques - you are missing an important area of achieveing optimal health - the feeling of fulfillment that is key and complementary to the physical aspects of health and healing. Some readers will have an understanding why Weil recommends things like milk thistle, evening primrose oil, purified water as opposed to tap - but more information would help clarify the advice for others."
"Each week covers easy-to-handle changes that may be made in any adult's life to improve physical and emotional health."
"Not really a focus plan lots of filler for another book."

Mind Over Meds: Know When Drugs Are Necessary, When Alternatives Are Better-and When to Let Your Body Heal on Its Own; Library Edition

"Dr. Andrew Weil in Mind Over Meds helps readers make informed decisions on medication use. The last chapter covers medications with a pharmacist, whom Dr. Weil says is an underutilized medical person in the management of medications. Mind Over Meds could be used as a reference book by reading just the areas that apply to the reader's situation or it could be read straight through like I did."
"Weil reports that “adverse drug reactions are the fourth leading cause of death in our country and rank between the fourth and the sixth more common cause of death in hospitalized patients.” He also says “antibiotics that we use to kill or inhibit the growth of disease-causing bacteria may alter liver and kidney function and interfere with digestion.”. Through chapter after chapter Weil gives examples of people who have been terribly over medicated, describes in detail the medical issues of over use and misuse and then explains the integrative approach using meds when needed, plus diet, exercise, supplements, and mind/body approaches to achieve health."
"Everyone should read this book. I could go on because I can't say enough good things about Andrew Weil."
"Wonderful book and great education for people who are seeking alternatives to meds."
"Andrew Weil gave medical information I had been searching for."
"I am a fan of dr Weil!"
"Terrific read and learned a great deal about many medications including some I use."

Best Woolf, Virginia

To the Lighthouse
One of the icons of modernism, Virginia Woolf is credited alongside James Joyce for redefining the novel and challenging the limitations of the form. She creates not a new but a more nuanced reading, following the interwoven streams of consciousness in a British English that lends authenticity to each voice. Leishman also draws our attention to Woolf's poetic prose: her rhythms and images, her use of hard consonants in monosyllabic words in counterpoint to long, soft, dreamy words and phrases.
Reviews
"I enjoyed it but felt that it moved a bit slowly and the usual energy and flow was somehow missing."
"Amazingly evocative streams of consciousness still evoking the sensuous landscape and detail."
"As expected, got this for my daughter."
"Very symbolic and emotional."
"The rhythm of language; The challenge of words keeps my mind engaged as well as the plot."
"I have always enjoyed PD James' writing, she never disappoints."
