I also knew that certain breads and pastas and noodles and foods in general would give me this heavy feeling after eating, and I wanted to get rid of that once and for all. I love her no-nonsense approach with reasoning and science behind it so if you love nutrition and science, you'll LOVE this book. I am giving it a 4 star even though I highly recommend the book because I wish there were less sections on all the human ailment conditions and MORE on just Paleo - how to eat Paleo, how to make quick easy Paleo foods."
"The books has a lot of information about the paleo diet as a “do it yourself” kind of approach, but I am relying on my doctor for direction and not the book."
"She's now cooked several meals from this cook book and also loves that the recipes are fairly easy to follow and are delicious."
"I wrongly assume Paleo was all about Crossfit and getting to eat as much greasy meat as you want (a la Atkins Diet years ago, yuck) which was such a far cry from the vegan/vegetarian way of eating food for health and nutrients that I had been doing. Not only does Diane teach (for the first half of the book) about ways to make the paleo way of eating enhance and even transform your health, but she also includes several different meal plans based on your health needs (autoimmune repair, fat loss, athletic performance, etc) and recipes for those plans."
"If you have the first edition, you will find value in owning the second."
"So many people have misconceptions about the paleo way of eating, and Practical Paleo lays it all out for you."
Best Gluten-Free Diets
Beloved food blogger and New York Times bestselling author Danielle Walker is back with over 100 new Paleo recipes in her sophomore cookbook, Meals Made Simple —a collection of gluten-free, dairy-free, and Paleo-friendly recipes for easy weeknight meals. With recipes that make cooking for the grain-free family both easy and enjoyable, Meals Made Simple answers the age-old question: “What’s for dinner?” Danielle Walker takes the guesswork out of meal planning with eight weeks’ worth of dinner ideas, complete with full shopping lists and recipes for using up leftovers. Meals Made Simple includes a variety of slow cooker, one-pot, and thirty-minute meals, as well as ways to create entirely new dishes from leftovers. Despite her expansive array of medications and prednisone steroids, Danielle found herself hospitalized numerous times each year, admitted repeatedly for multiple blood transfusions due to morbidly low hemoglobin levels. She began eliminating more food groups including grains, lactose and legumes, following a plan that closely mimicked the Paleo diet. Seeing drastic progress after just 48 hours, Danielle began dedicating her free time to creating delicious comfort foods that could be enjoyed on a restricted diet. Coveting a large, but loyal following on her blog, Danielle expanded beyond the internet and released her first cookbook, Against All Grain: Delectable Paleo Recipes to Eat Well & Feel Great , in July 2013.

Find Best Price at Amazon"Upon first receiving it and glancing through it I was a little disappointed that it seemed sparse and recipes for mayonnaise, cauli-rice and chicken stock stuck out at me. Favorite: Those few reviewers that are unhappy with this book aren't realizing that the real value is in the unbelievable amount of time and work that Ms. Walker put into making 8 weeks of meal plans! No longer do you have to open a can of coconut milk and hope the reminder doesn't go to waste, she accounts for so many of the little details like that. To elaborate, here are the things I love about this book: - meal plan with shopping lists. - indexes! By ingredients, meal type, allergens/dietary preference, time/one-pot/crock-pot and a photo index. - tear-out menu plans and shopping lists. I love that this book is a celebration of her short life and that she lives on in all our hearts and kitchens as we enjoy the fruit of their labor together."
"My eczema disappeared completely, I no longer have to take metformin for my pcos symptoms. I have leaky gut and was getting diarrhea about 3-5 times a day prier to this diet. I even started a fb group where I post pictures of each meal I make from this book."
"In her new book, Against All Grain: Meals Made Simple, she has added even more mouthwatering delights for the Paleo chef. Danielle was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease at twenty-two, and she spent years in and out of hospitals and taking some heavy-duty prescriptions for her condition until she’d had enough. Now we have book two, lavishly photographed by Danielle herself and filled with tasty recipes your family will love. Danielle shows how to protect the budget by purchasing larger cuts of meat, the whole bird instead of parts and by buying in bulk. A bit like a frittata, it contains yellow onions, white sweet potatoes, bacon, bell peppers and eggs. I made the barbecue sauce (p. 250) to serve with burgers and Danielle’s cashew flour buns from her first book. My all-time favorite dessert is Lemon Sponge, a British treat that’s bursting with lemony goodness, but loaded with sugar."
"Great healthy recipes!"
"I love that there are meal plans in the back of the book as well."
"Purchased for my daughter in law."
"Beautiful pictures and great recipes."

This doctor recommended that I completely revamp my diet and try a paleo lifestyle. Find Best Price at Amazon"However, in light of T. Colin Campbell's unprofessional attack on this book, I believe I must speak up to share my story and the good health that has resulted in my following the Atkins plan. Since following the plan outlined in this book, I have lost weight, my arthritis has improved substantially (particularly in my neck and shoulders) and my dry skin (which 2 dermatologists had diagnosed as rosacea) has disappeared. What disturbs me further about T. Colin Campbell is that he has clearly put out a call to his vegan followers to come to the Amazon site and give bad reviews of this book, as he posted this nonsense on his webpage. Contrary to their ravings, the Atkins diet recommends lots of vegetables, a conservative amount of dietary protein and good fats."
"The weight loss is so fast that in a matter of DAYS my stomach had shrunk (can attribute to gastric bloating or water weight loss) and my pant legs were looser on me. I can actually fit in a pair of skinny jeans I outgrew 2 years ago (Thank you baby weight. I used to roll my eyes when people would rant about losing weight because I thought that all diets were BS. I had heard of the Atkins diet years ago but upon mentioning it to my mother she quickly insulted the diet like many others before, and I never gave it a second thought."
"I went for the low-fat, whole grain, portion control approach; and stuck to it pretty well. In more than seven months I lost 17 pounds and was miserable and frustrated the entire time. For breakfast I have been making 2 egg omlettes with frozen veggies and cheese. Dinner is some kind of grilled or broiled meet with asparagus etc. Shoot me but I really enjoy a glass of wine when I'm done with my day, (or at least my driving). I respect other people's right to choose, and right to write more mainstream diet books."
"It worked well for me and it let's you fine tune a difficult diet."

It only takes one look to see why people go crazy for Gina’s food: cheesy, creamy Fettuccini Alfredo with Chicken and Broccoli with only 420 calories per serving, breakfast dishes like Make-Ahead Western Omelet "Muffins" that truly fill you up until lunchtime, and sweets such as Double Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookies that are low in sugar and butter-free but still totally indulgent. "These easy-to-assemble dishes keep both family mealtime planning and healthy eating in mind with kid-friendly, 'simplified and skinny-fied' dishes.

Find Best Price at Amazon"At the time I bought this, I'd heard nothing about it. So many of us are on special diets or have to entertain for a family member or guest who is and pull something together--whether that be gluten-free, vegetarian, something for a family who works during the day and needs crockpot meals, something for a family who works all the time and only wants to cook on weekends and then freeze the meals... this book took that all into account. That took some time, but boy is it handy, even if you yourself only use it occassionally. I have had a few cookbooks that actually made me turned off to the meal due to the grey lighting or even ones I knew were fake like a slow cooker photo of mac and cheese that showed it browned on top (that does not occur in a slow cooker). These are truly restaurant quality meals, that are obviously tested and tried and perfected. Some authors will not do this unless the company pays them to use their name in the book. Examples: TUSCAN PANZANELLA SALAD WITH GRILLED GARLIC BREAD. SUMMER LOBSTER ROLLS. MONGOLIAN BEEF AND BROCCOLI. FRENCH BREAD PIZZA SUPREME. TERIYAKI GLAZED STUFFED PORK CHOPS WITH PINEAPPLE SALSA. ROAST BEEF SANDWICHES WITH CREAMY HORSERADISH SPREAD. CHICKPEA AND POTATO CURRY. SPICY BLACKBEAN BURGERS WITH CHIPOTLE MAYO. PEAR AND BRIE GRILLED CHEESE. STEAK SANDWICHES. BLACK BEAN BURRITO BOWLS. CILANTRO LIME SHRIMP. CHEESY BAKED PANNE WITH EGGPLANT. SILKY CHOCOLATE CREAM PIE. LOADED NACHO POTATO SKINS. ITALIAN SAUSAGE WITH PEPPERS AND ONION. WARM APPLE PIE CRUMBLE. GUMBOS, STIR FRIES, MAIN DISH SALADS, MEATLESS MAIN DISH CHAPTERS. SHRIMP AND GRITS. COCONUT PANNA COTTA WITH RASPBERRIES. DOUBLE CHOCOLATE CHUNK WALNUT COOKIES. WINTER POTATO, KALE AND SAUSAGE FRITTATA. THAI COCONUT MUSSELS. C ROLLATINI STUFFED WITH ZUCCHINI AND MUSHROOMS. LASAGNA (ZUCCHINI STRIPS ARE USED RATHER THAN PASTA AND I SWEAR YOU WON'T KNOW THE DIFFERENCE!). Whether you never eat red meat, eat only white meat, eat only seafood, eat no animal protein...or switch it up all the time, you can easily find a chapter on whatever suits your fancy or your mood that day."
"This book cooks with great ingredients which makes the meals taste really good while if you follow the portion sizes, you will lose weight."
"All of Gina's recipes always turn out!"
"Love this cookbook! with about 75% of the recipes."
"I have been trying to cook healthier and to make smarter choices and you truly don't feel like you're skipping on flavor with these recipes."
"It's enough time in preparation that I don't get flustered and HANGRY after getting home from work at 6:00pm and satisfies my need to eat delicious, healthy entrees."

What I’ve gained are increased energy, lots less brain fog, joints moving better (do not hurt all the time), less headaches – a LOT less, tummy troubles are now non-existent, and before, I was always gaseous or had diarrhea, or just was hurting in general. My labs were checked in February, after just two months, and my doc was blown away. I was no longer in the diabetic range and my liver functions had normalized. He also has a good website with a lot of articles to read: [...] If you want your health back, it’s time to read, Grain Brain!"
"An additional note -- anyone who already eats fairly consciously and still needs to lose pounds will still have to practice moderation, e.g., the license and reasons to consume "good" fats, for instance, are neurologically important, but the calories add up quickly if you don't track how much you eat vs. how active you are."
"It is a sobering read, but is a must read if you are interested in maintaining good brain health and avoiding diseases such as Type II Diabetes, as well as potentially significantly reducing the risk of developing dementia and other brain disease."
"I overheard a couple of fellow Bikram yoginis discussing Dr. Perlmutter's current book "Brain Maker," and I decided to order both books."

This book introduced me to two concepts that were critical: Functional medicine, and Hashimoto's Gluten sensitivity. This led to several significant changes. The second came when I started looking for functional medicine doctors in Austin, TX and following the supplementation suggestions put forward in this book. Empty Stomach (AM): - Licorice drops. - Probiotic. - Saccharomyces Boulardii. Lunch: - Glutamine. - Methyl B12 (my Dr suspects a MTHFR gene mutation; regular B12 wasn't helping but this works great). - NAC. - Zinc (this was huge for me; gave me lots more energy). - Selenium. Bedtime: - Magnesium. - CoQ10. - Probiotic. - Fish Oil w/vitamin D. Many of these don't have to be taken with food and the order could be switched up. I'd recommend chatting with your doctor about lab work for vitamin deficiencies and reading Dr. Wentz's supplement guide."
"I've read the Stop The Thyroid Madness site, Mary Shamon's thyroid-info website, Dr. Alexander Haskell's book, Dr. Datiz Kharrazian's book and his diet recommendations, read what Jack Kruse has to say... I've looked into the GAPS diet, the paleo diet, the autoimmune paleo diet, and researched intestinal permeability and how to heal it. I'm so thrilled to have this book, it still seems too good to be true! :). I would suggest though, if there is ever a second printing, and an updated version, that the author include more advice/info on finding a good functional/integrative/holistic Dr. to work with, which testing is available and from which labs, how to navigate testing solo or with your Dr., etc."
"My antibodies went from 1200 + down to under 100 since then and I'm taking lower and lower doses of my compounded meds and cytomel."

The only things missing – and this is as someone spoiled by Danielle’s first two cookbooks – are clear cooktimes at the beginning of each recipe and a picture index of the recipes."
"I made a few recipes from Celebrations for Thanksgiving, and I am impressed!"
"While this book fits right in with anyone avoiding gluten and dairy, those who can eat anything will love the recipes. I have cooked recipes from other books and my version, while tasty, didn’t always come out like the picture."
