"This is right up there with Otis Rush's late '50s Cobra singles (which weren't created as an album), his Cold Day in Hell (live in Japan in '75), and Howlin' Wolf's '50s music."
"Should be in every Blues Collector's collection, it's a great CD."

"Junior Wells on his harp along with Buddy Guy great album."
"He is accompanied by other first class musicians Budy Guy (Guitar), Jack Meyers (Bass) and Billy Warren. A Meeting by the River
Yet on his improvised session (this album was recorded without rehearsal in one evening), he and Bhatt truly collided musically and created moments worthy of the world-music Grammy they received for it. His duets here with Cooder are completely unique, liberating both artists from the usual constraints and creating a new musical style that is unlikely to be repeated or imitated.
Reviews
"A very inspiring, rhythmic, and melodic jam harmonizing various tributaries of traditions into one river, into one oceanic delight."
"Magical, mystical, enchanting collaboration of cultures."
"The vinyl version of "A Meeting By The River" is sonically as well as musically outstanding."
"Cooder and Bhatt synthesize beautifully."
"It's really good but you need to be in the right mood ?"
"I first heard this years ago."
"Singularly beautiful cross-cultural collaboration by two masters."
"Great title that sounds even better in the SACD version."

Kulanjan
Perennial blues road warrior Taj Mahal and Malian kora (harp-lute) ambassador Toumani Diabate join forces, blend textures, and intermingle idioms on this cleanly produced 12-song set, recorded in 1998 in Athens.
Reviews
"Soulful blend of West African styles and American Blues."
"The music is an exciting mix of instruments, vocals, and talent."
"i have been listening to Taj for over 25 years and this is the best album since Natural Blues."
"This has wonderful blendings of blues and the African roots that birthed them."
"There is clearly a lot of musical talent on this CD, but it was not what I expected."
"This kind of music needs the volume turned up full blast."
"Taj Mahal (American jazz & blues artist) and Toumani Diabate (famous Mali kora musician) explore the roots of the blues from its very source ... they show us how remnants of the past are contained in the blues music of today. The music and oral tradition of the griots, who sang the praises of the kings in ancient times, plus the music of the hunters, termed termed wassoulou, form the basis and foundation of the blues."

With Big Walter Horton
NEW Combo BLUWAVS CD and FLAC FILE.
Reviews
"A must have for the blues harp player and any blues music lover, even if he/she is a resident of a fourth-world country (fulfilling twenty-one word minimum)."
"A blues masterpiece, with great contributions from Luther Allison and the incomparable Big Walter Horton."
"Good obscure album to have for the blues lover."
"This is a fantastic CD."
"The other five tracks are from a June 1966 session in Chicago featuring Johnny Shines, guitar and vocal; Big Walter Horton, harmonica; Otis Spann, piano; Lee Jackson, bass; Fred Below, drums. Luther Allison, Otis Spann and Big Walter Horton had their own recording careers as blues players."
"The tracks recorded in Chicago are the best, featuring both Spann and blues drummer par excellence Fred Below (Horton is on all of them), and they include a fine rendition of Big Maceo Merriweather's "Worried Life Blues" and the almost jazz-like "I Want To Warn You". But the L.A. tracks are not far behind, with some great guitar playing from Luther Allison, a funky "Fat Mama", and a great "If It Ain't Me", which sees Johnny Shines doing a good impression of Rice Miller (Sonny Boy Williamson II)."

Deluxe Edition
Deluxe Edition , a retrospective of her 15 years with Alligator Records, may not include such classics as "I Got What It Takes" and the Willie Dixon -penned "Twenty-Nine Ways," but it does have "I'm a Woman," Taylor's answer to Muddy Waters , just to kick things off. Though this collection boasts only one obligatory previously unreleased track, it's a doozy: "Man Size Job," simply put, kicks ass.
Reviews

"one of the best blues records there is."
