"I bought three Bluetooth speakers hoping ONE would be usable. I bought the Cambridge SoundWorks Oontz Angle 3, the Anker Classic Portable, and the Boombotix REX. If you want to nitpick, the Boombotix is the smallest, the Anker is next, and the Cambridge is the largest. The Boombotix is sturdy and easy to use, the buttons are a little close together, but they work well. The Cambridge Angle 3 is sturdy and I love the shape. The rubber end caps are a mixed blessing. I recommend standing it up if you put a lot of volume through it because once the bass starts to thump it will bounce and wiggle it's way all over the place. But standing up the passive radiator on the bottom doesn't propel it all over. None of them are on par with the large Sound Dock or Klipsch type speakers, but they could hardly be expected to compete with those at this size and price.The Cambridge is my favorite because it has more bass than the other two. There's an audio out jack, which you can use to run a second speaker (of any make). I chose the Angle 3, it fits my needs best with the best imitation of bass, but the others are good enough that I've decided to keep them and use them too."

Find Best Price at Amazon"It worked well for playlists and occasional questions, but I got so used to just saying "Alexa...." that it was odd having to reach for it. I set it up so not only can it work from my home network (when in range) but also from my phone's hotspot. He works away from home often and it makes me feel more safe to have that option where I can just yell at Alexa if something happens where I should fall down the stairs, hear an intruder, etc. I kind of like listening to baseball, football and hockey on the radio when I am working or painting or whatever, and miss that with this. This is sort of like Echo Junior now that they have added the hands free option. I suppose I could carry the tap and use the mobile hotspot on my phone, but I don't really like to use that much data unless I have to (like for music at a picnic or something.). The dot is the least expensive, but you likely won't like the sound for music (unless you attach it to another device.). Stand alone bigger item, always tethered to electricity, very nice speaker even for a party, most expensive = Echo. 2. Portable size (kinda like a 16 oz can of beer), rechargeable, okay sound for a quieter room, medium-priced of the 3 = Tap. 3. Smallest (like a hockey puck), tethered to electricity, acceptable sound (like a clock radio type but attachable), cheapest = Dot."

"I decided against the Bose since it can’t pair with a second speaker for a stereo setup, is slightly older, doesn’t look as attractive (quite a dated look in fact) and the sound quality reviews do not put it above the other two. Yes, JBL lasts longer, but the 15 hour battery on UE is a week of regular use. It took me a week to decide that this constitutes a tie for me, but most people would likely prefer the bigger bass of the JBL. This is not to say that that UE or JBL produce low quality sound: they both sound surprisingly good for their size. Charge 3 will charge your phone, which is not exactly useless, but probably not a deciding feature. However, for my preferences, UE Boom 2 was the clear winner given its much more compact size and neater design due to them being close to tied in other areas, including sound quality."

You've got a 2-inch speaker trying to produce full frequency range, which is basically a joke. I think the only reason this is rated water-resistant instead of water-proof is because a cheap, more-plastic-than-rubber material was used for the USB port cover. As a computer tech, I like that this unit can actually be disassembled at least partially and reassembled with a screwdriver (instead of glue that's impossible or snaps that break)."

"I was just browsing electronics products and saw that MPOW now released a waterproof bluetooth speaker! I was in search of a reliably, affordable bluetooth speaker for kayaking last summer, but never found one, until this one popped up on my page! I felt so secure with its build that, while playing music, i dropped it from shoulder height onto the (hard) kitchen floor. I started playing my favorite music (wireless), and put these speakers underneath the kitchen faucet, streaming heavy water. Of course, the music got a little faded when I poured half a gallon onto the main driver, but a little shake and it was playing absolutely fine again. I'd go as far as to say this will hold up to full submersion - It will be absolutely fine for rainy & muddy weather, with the added benefit that it's really easy to clean - Just spray it off! EDIT: After 6 months of wear and tear, this unit has been dropped in the river (it does float for a few seconds!! No issues with bluetooth signal dying, no major physical damage, and the audio is as loud and crystal clear as the day I got them! I'm not quite sure how MPOW has managed to pack such a great product into this box, but this is excellence in engineering."

So, I install the system on a newer LED tv that has a 5.1 pass through on the optical port and bam! The playbar is a great anchor for the TV when it comes to dialogue and as it acts as a front pair and center speaker for the whole system during movies and music. As mentioned at the start of this diatribe, Sonos needs to get off their elitist butts and add HDMI connectivity and support for DTS. After reading through countless forum threads about the issue, it almost seems as if the Sonos team takes a certain pride in telling their paying faithful to shut up and colors they decide are in our best interest. "The main problem is that excellent products like the Samsung Smart Things hub, which do a fantastic job of unifying a slew of different connected devices from different companies (Nest, Honeywell, Phillips, and so on), still lacked the web connectivity and entertainment support I wanted, so I'd still end up needing my tablet or phone. Thanks to fantastic third party support, the Dot has no problem controlling all of my smart stuff while allowing me to listen to music, order food, check the weather, listen to the radio, set alarms and timers, all of which is easily accomplished through simple voice commands. Similar to the smartphone and tablet I use every day that didn't exist just a few short years ago. Kinda hard to quantify, but I'd guess Alexa is at least twice as likely to understand long, complex phrases and has also gained noticeable accuracy when ambient noise I'd present. I was a bit worried initially that Alexa might be triggered accidentally by ambient TV or general household noise, so I'm really impressed that it's only happened twice so far. If it's a concern, the mic can be temporarily disabled, so the dot won't trigger and listen accidentally. I've had no problem pairing the dot to a variety of devices including: two different Bluetooth speakers, my Galaxy S7 edge, and pioneer receiver. Even though the microphones are extremely sensitive and quite accurate, I've found that the Dot works best when placed on a surface that's close to the level of the person speaking to it. If you'd like to place the dot higher, it works much better when flush with the wall, instead of sitting on a shelf etc. I tried both setups and found with a couple nails set apart to make a cradle facing the dot out towards the room works best for me (sorry for the run on sentence lol). Unlike the upcoming Google Home BT speaker, the Dot and other Alexa devices are unable to answer general web queries. They do a decent job of answering factual questions like "How far away is the sun" but I'd really like too see Amazon add a "search" function."

When you have Echo products -- I have 3 -- you can ONLY play multiple Echo speakers as long as long as none of them are linked through bluetooth to another speaker. If any echo product is linked to a bluetooth speak -- or other bluetoothing thing like a TV -- you cannot play everywhere. I hope Amazon changes this through software updates given they say they are constantly improving stuff. Obviously a reason they do this is to make people buy only their products BUT now that the new echo is out the sound quality isn't nearly as good as should be and the hype suggested (reviews of sound of new echo say the old one sounds better). Pairing with a phone is by the usual procedure and it works perfectly using Bluetooth which gives very fast connection and clear sound (see video). I could not find the actual weather protection rating of the speaker however I think it is fair to say that this speaker would need to be kept away from water. I think everyone understands the concept of bass and in that respect, it has very strong bass as you would expect with such an impressive subwoofer. I experimented with a good quality graphic equaliser on my phone and found that whatever setting I chose, be it pre-set or manually adjusted, the speaker produced clear, clean sound without distortion or vibration. It is completely capable of providing great sound quality without distortion for a whole wide range of music genres and if you want to push bass, high ends etc."

In contrast, the Pulse X has a wider range, focusing on the mids and has more extension to the lows (the bass is much more pronounced), while the vocal stays behind and slightly muddy (especially compare to VOOM 23), the overall result is a fuller and more balanced sound. In summary, for shorter listening where the focus is needed on vocal and acoustic instruments, VAVA VOOM 23 would provide that crisp and very clear sound. It is definitely designed mainly for outdoor use under more extreme condition because of the rugged enclosure, hanging clip, and a much longer battery life."
