The emblem on the front is ugly and prevents air from moving through the front of the hat, but you can cut the stitching on the back, and the glue they used is so soft you can gently pull it off from there without hurting the straw, no heatgun required. Otherwise, this hat has held up well enough for a straw hat, imo."

"Although the inside of the brim is lined with a dark (in the case of my hat, "Sonoma Stars" red/white/blue) fabric, I feel that this adds the right amount of stiffness and durability to the item so that it does not easily flap around in the wind; it may also make it a tad warmer, as others have noted. I purchased it initially only for use around the exterior of the house (I thought its flamboyance was not the style for this staid, elderly gent) - gardening and mowing the lawn - but this year I have dared to walk downtown wearing it and I have received lots of compliments on the hat.
