"I bought these same hiking boots years ago and completely wore a first pair out. The soles protect you from the rocks and roots on trails and they are light enough for regular pavement walking."
"I love these hiking shoes."
"Very comfortable walking up hill (hiking Colorado), walking down hill they tend to slide forward smashing the toes to the end of the shoes."
"This is my 3rd pair of these hiking shoes."
"I wore these on a recent hike and they performed well."
"The sole came off while I was hiking."
"I want something comfortable with lots of support and cushioning that also has a grippy bottom that can handle loose rocks and gravel. I did not find them to be as cushiony as others reviewers did - at all...there was almost no arch support and the ball of my foot felt like it had no cushioning."

This 21523 Merrell Men's Chameleon Prime Stretch Hiking Shoes streamlines its fit and trims the fat to prime your engine for fast-paced trail missions. Durable hiking shoe featuring stretchy topline and bungee laces for ideal fit.

Find Best Price at Amazon"What's different about the Prime: -The padding around the stretch insert (the hole you put your foot through) is tighter, and the padding is much thicker. This isn't the same material as the C4's, and since the material is thicker (twice as thick) my foot sweats more. -The shoe is stiffer than the C4's, most likely because of the padding that replaced the C4's padding. Not only that, but they sew this to the stretchable fabric of the Stretch Insert, which causes it to rip if you pull too tightly. OVERALL-. I am extremely happy with my purchase, the new shoe offers my foot more support and better traction."
"I like my shoes to fit a bit tight so I would recommend purchasing a shoe horn to help put them on."
"This is my first pair of Merrells and also my first for any slip-on type shoe. As for durability, it's too early to tell, but let me note that this pair replaced a pair of Reebok Zigtec (nothing heavy duty, just a shoe designed for trail running)that I abused for four years and pushed far beyond the limit of what they were designed to do, so yes, I do have high expectations."
"The other thing to notice is that when you slip the shoes on, you feel the back of the shoe as if it there was a cardboard holding it together."
"I generally wear the Jungle Mocs and have for years."
"My husband wears these as his every day shoes and they last about a year."
"Should used a better adhesive for the toe, yet again a pair of these pricy shoes fails the quality test."

Find Best Price at Amazon"MAY 3rd: The seller of these boots ("ShoePro") has issued today a full refund on the defective boot after reviewing my comments and photos provided for. -------------------------------------------------------------------. I've bought these Salomon Women's X Ultra Mid 2 GTX Hiking Shoes based on several reviews read here and based on Salomon's long time manufacturer of several types of boots. I walk for several hours in a mountain path with my husband and I had no trouble at all, my feet didn't sore, the boot was extremely comfortable to wear and the grip over loose terrain was very firm so I did did walk without any problems or feeling unsure. These boots are replacement of some Columbia Hiking boots and I have no regrets, these Salomon Boots are really good. Regularly, I usually wear 8 B(M) on running shoes, every day shoes (most brands), evening shoes and at home shoes; but I usually buy one size up when it has to do with trekking, hiking or camping shoes as I feel more comfortable as there is enough room for any type of hiking sock in any type of weather. You can read his comments and reasons at https://www.amazon.com/review/R1HPO07QXH2BD/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B00KWKKPR6 Salomon Men's X Ultra Mid 2 GTX Multifunctional Hiking Boot, Black/Black/Aluminum, 11 M US. If you ask me, I highly recommend these Salomon Boots. For the first try-on (especially with boots), take the time to remove the laces entirely and re-lace, making sure to snug the laces through each eyelet. When your boots are laced completely there should be no slack in the laces near the toe area. Once the shoes or boots are laced properly, take a short jaunt around your living room. After you've determined a proper fit in the afternoon/evening, you should also make sure your boots fit OK first thing the next morning. Toe Room. Toe room prevents your toes from banging into the front of the boot when going downhill, and allows for natural foot swelling. Narrow Forefoot (ball). People with narrow feet (in a boot that is too wide) can try two things: Tightening up the laces often works, but once the boots have stretched slightly you may run out of room for more lace tightening. Pressure on top of toes. If, after you take a few steps in your living room, you find the boots creasing abnormally and digging into the tops of your toes, you may have a boot that is too wide, too long, or has too much interior volume for your foot. Too tight at the top of the boot. If you're not used to wearing hiking boots, the tops of the boots may feel restrictive on your lower shins, just above the ankles. Example: For wide feet leave the lower laces loose for more room, apply a surgeon's knot to the eyelets near the bend of your ankle, and tighten the laces in the upper eyelets. The boots that is. Stuff these doubled-up bags down into your boot, as if you were trying to line the boot with the bags. Lace the boots up with a lacing tension similar to what you would use if your feet were in them. New Boots? Get New Socks. Your new boots will serve you best with new socks; new socks provide extra padding that is crucial to prevent blisters during break-in. Old, less absorbent socks also allow more salt to prematurely wear out your boots. Liner Socks: Still a Good Thing. Liner socks are recommended with wool socks; they are less abrasive against the skin than wool, and the thin, extra layer acts as a buffer to reduce friction. Abrasion and friction is not as noticeable with synthetic socks; however, there are still several good reasons to keep those liner socks in action: (1) Liner socks can cure some 'problem fits,' especially those caused by narrow feet. (3) Liner socks can also be used on long trips when you want to take along a minimum number of socks: use fresh liner socks each day and carry fewer outer socks. Liner socks save your outer socks from the ravages of sweat and oils, and liner socks are easier to wash and quicker to dry than outer socks. Wearing socks: A Few Wrinkles. When wearing hiking socks here are a few pointers to keep in mind: Never wear your socks inside out, or you may experience discomfort from the seams. Make sure there are no wrinkles in your socks when you put your boots on."
"I would say the boots run just a bit narrow, as I find these hiking boots fit perfectly with mid-weight hiking socks width-wise, but I have a fair bit of wiggle room at the front of the shoe."
"They are light weight, stable and kept my socks from getting wet when I stepped into a deep puddle. I also took them on my Eastern Europe trip of two weeks, and hiked everyday."
"The shoes will be like a wing if it fit for me for the weight of it."
"These are some of the best hiking shoes around."
"I really appreciated the reinforced ankle support as walking over rocks can make your foot slide."
"Unfortunately, there is not enough padding in the boots to adequately protect the foot from the eyelets so the boots are painful to wear. The only positive thing I can say about these boots is that the out-sole seems to be very durable as I have over 70 miles on these and there is not much wear on the soles."

Find Best Price at Amazon"I was a little late in committing to hiking boots, and I only wore these for a 3 mile walk before hitting the trail with my 28 lb pack. Our first day on the trail turned out to be the most arduous; we both hiked in our new Keens for over 7 hours across incredibly rocky, rugged terrain. I was pleased to find that I did not notice any increased drag or feeling of a weighted foot despite being accustomed to wearing hiking shoes. Each of our days had a high of about 75 degrees F. We were (fortunately) unable to test out how well waterproofed these boots were as we had gorgeous weather the entire trip."
"I recently returned from a trip to Peru where I hiked the Inca Trail in the middle of rainy season. I initially googled the best waterproof hiking shoes and these didn't make the cut, but they were in my price range and I went for it anyway. One woman actually bought Salomon hiking boots, which were rated #1, and she was upset about the quality/the fact that her feet were damp."
"I ordered the neutral grey/mineral blue and the color was somewhat off from the photos on Amazon. I am also a street size 7.5 so I ordered an 8 since the Keen website suggested to go half a size up."
"These are great boots! I live in Western New York where it snows quite a bit for half the year, and while these won't do as true winter boots - not insulated - they've been working out great when I just need to head out for a few quick errands and don't feel like pulling on my big ol' Columbia snow boots.. the tread is wonderful and I haven't had any slips or falls in them."
"This is my first pair of hiking boots. For my Keen sandals with no socks, I stay at an 8."

Find Best Price at Amazon"I ordered a size 7 (I'm normally a size 7.5 but after trying these on in a local shoe store the size 7 seemed the best fit) thinking it was the right size. When I become tired on the trail it's a real effort not to fall because the weight of the boot and its size become burdensome."
"I have not had on a trail yet."
"They fit true to size and comfortable around the foot, but rubbed my ankle a lot."
"I'm usually a 7.5 in women's but it was way too big even with thick socks so I sent it back for a size 7 which is perfect!"
"Love these boots!"
"The only downside might be the extra room in the toe box, but I won't know for sure until I get out there and do some actual hiking in them."
"They are not too heavy either and the toe box fits my wide foot just fine."
"Laces come undone easily, but that can be fixed if I wanted to coat the laces or replace them with another kind."

Find Best Price at Amazon"I have 3 Scarpa hiking and mountaineering boots...A bit heavy but you get used to it...Used on 10-12 miles hikes in 2-3 feet of snow...But as soon I got the boots I put a German insert (Pedag Viva Outdoor (Master) Rugged, Durable Orthotic w/ Semi-Rigid Arch, Met & Heel Pad)...In the past bought expensive inserts and my feet would slide back and fourth, specially going down the mountain, not anymore, even in the Summer I get happy feet..."
"I picked these shoes for the price point, and because the internet said they would get me to the top of Rainier."
"Just to small. GREAT BOOT."
"Great boot!"
"The only small gripe that I have is that sometimes it requires some fiddling to tighten the laces just right so your ankle is snug."
