Best Menstrual Cups

Diva Cup 1 Pre Childbirth
The DivaCup is a reusable, bell-shaped menstrual cup that is worn internally and sits low in the vaginal canal, collecting rather than absorbing your menstrual flow. Silicone ( 100 %).
Reviews
"I'd been seeing stuff online about menstrual cups and how they were the holy grail of feminine products so I wanted to try it out. I was mostly interested in the fact that they can worn for up to 12 hours because I like to go to bed without having to think about timing my tampon changing to allow maximum uninterpreted sleep. After you fold or squish the cup to put it in, you HAVE to make sure it opens back up. The directions tell you to twirl the base of the cup, but that's a more complicated move than they make it out to be. You have to reach up in, with, like, two fingers, and maneuver the cup around until it suctions to the walls of your vaginal canal. If the cup seems a bit stiff at first, run it under hot water and smoosh it up for a while. Overall, I think the Diva Cup is awesome and works fine so long as you allow yourself the time to get the hang of getting it in right."
"There are a few ways to fold the cup to get it in and have it pop open but not all will work every time. I have had to insert and reinsert this a few times because the cup wouldn't open. I will push my vaginal walls out with my fingers in hopes to open space up enough for the cup to pop open - this works about 50% of the time. I am 32 with no children and use Cup 1 - I have purchased cup 2 to see what the difference should be. This will help you figure out if you are leaking truely or it is just blood caught around the cup after insertion. I have overflowed this cup once - I noticed leaking and removed the cup; it was full! DivaCup $28 ish. Anigan EvaCup 2/$35 dual pack. Athena $20. Blossom $18. I chose the LARGE or Size 2 for each cup except my original Diva. To start all cups are the same in height - about 2.5" high - you can see in the image with the yard stick. I used each cup for a few days of my cycle, both light and heavier/mucusy flow. It is easy to fold and insert and opening is not an issue most of the time (suction is to blame the times it is difficult). Blossom Cup is my second favorite. The softness of the cup makes it hard to have the edges pop open inside you. I also had a tough time removing the cups - because they are so soft when you grab the body of the cup it squishes, I couldn't get a good grip. This makes folding the cup much more difficult and insertion harder. It does help with popping the cup open but I found if I didn't have a really good firm grip on the cup it opened before I had it high enough. I could feel the cup and had to remove and reinsert a few times before it was high enough and in the right spot to do its job."

"I first learned about menstrual cups when I saw that the period subscription box I was using offered Softcups. The cup has to be small enough to properly expand and lightly suction to the walls of your vagina. I believe the small Lena is a much better size for first-time users, unless you are absolutely certain that your cervix sits high during menstruation and can use a longer cup. I've never had a leak during the day or even overnight, and I can actually wear nice underwear with confidence knowing that they won't be ruined. They also increase your risk of developing toxic shock syndrome (TSS) because they absorb and trap any bad bacteria. Since they don't absorb anything, your vagina remains unchanged, so there's no bounce-back time after your period where it needs to rebuild the supply of good bacteria and get back to a healthy pH level. Your risk of developing TSS is also much, much lower, so menstrual cups are safer to use over longer periods of time. I'm saving a ton of money by not buying tampons every month, and I'm reducing the amount of waste I produce, so that's a win-win. It has some minor staining after 15 months of use, which is completely normal and will happen with any cup you buy. I recently bought some backup Lena cups, so I've included pictures of the new ones (a small pink compared to a large clear)."
"I am a long-time menstrual cup user (both the Diva Cup and the Lunette), but I have always preferred to sometimes use other feminine hygiene products under some circumstances - sometimes it's just easier to use tampons, and I prefer to not use anything internal at night if I can get away with it. I prefer menstrual cups specifically (1) when I wake up with cramps but haven't actually gotten my period yet, and (2) on my one or two really heavy flow days, when I would have to change a super absorbency tampon every hour or so but could get away with four to six hours on a menstrual cup. In terms of which brands I've used, I started with the Diva Cup, switched to the Lunette because I had some discomfort with the Diva Cup (the smaller one), but found the Diva Cup a lot easier to pop open than the Lunette, so I switched back. I'd had some problems with leaks on the smaller Diva Cup, but I was pretty sure it was because of the heaviness of my flow and not the diameter of the cup, so I didn't want to switch to the larger one (as I'd mentioned, the smaller one was already a little uncomfortable). The Diva Cup gets wider when you go to the larger cup. As it turns out, the Lena Cup is a LOT more comfortable than the Diva Cup for me, personally - as in, the larger Lena Cup is more comfortable than the smaller Diva Cup. I'm not sure if it's the shape or what, but something about the design of the Lena Cup also makes it a lot easier than either the Diva Cup or the Lunette to change tidily, particularly in public restrooms. [My feeling on the public restrooms is that if you can't change it in a public restroom it's a total nonstarter as a feminine hygiene product, so here's a tip about emptying menstrual cups in public restrooms in general: wash your hands and wet down a paper towel before you go into the stall, empty the cup into the toilet, wipe it out with toilet paper, and then use the wet paper towel to wipe the sides and inside of the cup before reinserting it."
"My sixteen year old daughter can't use either, but then again, even tampons are uncomfortable for her. I was worried about it making a mess, but the "stuff" collects in the cup instead of plugging everything up. I assumed smell was a normal part of that time of the month. The material is the perfect thickness to easily fold and pop open. The shape fits perfectly, and the grips on the end do make taking it out easier."

Best Tampons

Tampax Pocket Pearl Compact Plastic Super Absorbency Unscented Tampons, 36 Count (Pack of 3)
Pocket Pearl provides the powerful protection of full-size Pearl tampons in a compact size.
Reviews
"Happy they had these, I hate carrying the regular long ones and these are nice and small and is the same quality, You just have to pull the stick out and it's a regular tampon."
"I was expecting the normal size ones but ended up liking these a lot."
"I love how discreet these are!"
"Very convenient size."
"I loved the prior version of this - the Tampax Compak - but the new Pocket Pearl design is beyond awful. I have been loyal to the Tampax brand for 20+ years and loved the Compak version - but after this experience, I will be trying other brands for the first time ever."
"Like many women, I never thought I would be the one be writing a review about tampons, but I am so enraged at the redesign of the applicator and tampon that I feel I have to share to prevent other women from going through the same frustrations. The Tampon: Tampax description “Only Tampax Pearl has a Built-In Backup Braid that helps stop leaks by channeling them back into the core, protecting you in a way no other tampon does.”. The tampon itself seems to open up into a surreal butterfly shape…but only if it is immersed in water. I remember using the previous Compak design and being able to go to the loo without having to replace my tampon, but now, if the slightest bit of urine hits the string, it goes straight up into the core. The wrapper: It isn’t crunchy and doesn’t make a lot of noise, so if you are in public, nobody knows your business, which is a positive, but the “funky” design makes it rather difficult to distinguish between Regular, Super and Super Plus by sight alone."
"The tampons themselves are the best I've used as far as absorption and length of protection for me (I've previously only used Kotex, though—which, hey, at least the applicator worked, but the tampons themselves…not so much). The whole POINT of using this type of applicator is to NOT have to shove the tampon *IN* with your bare hands………but GUESS what happens 9 times out of 10???"

"I also went to a doctor, which I fricking haaaaaaaaaaaaate doing, but I got a physical and full blood test to rule out thyroid issues, checked vitamin D. I also had my estrogen checked but I knew from already reading on the internet and the book mentioned above that the lab results as "normal" won't necessarily mean I am not estrogen dominant. the spoting between cycles stopped COMPLETELY and my flow lost that nasty clotting thing that was happening. There's nothing to apologize for..unless it's contributing to a culture that makes women have to worry and stress and figure out something as simple as their hormone balance as they get older...yeesh :P. Anyways I can't believe the difference this stuff has made. The book is called "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About(TM): Premenopause: Balance Your Hormones and Your Life from Thirty to Fifty". Figured I should add the exact title, well worth the money."
"Started using this at night to help me sleep, and the depression lifted and all other symtoms have faded away, and my skin is becoming supple again."
"Started using this product ......04/14. Started period 14 days later....04/28. Ended period 4 days later........05/01. SECOND PERIOD! Started using this product ......05/14. Started period 10 days later....05/23. Ended period 4 days later........05/27. THIRD PERIOD!"
"1/4 tsp each a.m. and p.m. starting between days 7-12 (day 1 is first day of bleeding), then use through day 28 of my cycle. I will say that if you have estrogen dominance, your symptoms may seem increased during the first month or two of using because the estrogen is trying to fight back against the progesterone. Month #3 - period was way lighter, but a little longer, clots were smaller, sleeping better and had more energy. Month #4 - period only lasted 3 days and was the lightest it's been in years!"
"Also I found to not skimp on the amount they say to use, you need every bit of it."

"You can set the handle between the shower and Cleanstream to regulate the water flow (as I have a single handle to turn water on and off in my shower and can't regulate the pressure with it)."

"These little pills are like magical coochy bombs."
"Okay ladies: I know we all get super squirmy when we have to discuss our hoo-ha’s but I just wanna throw this out there because I read all the reviews before I tried this product and I want to give my honest feedback so you, too, can make an informed decision. I read all the clinicals I could get my hands on (conveniently located in one place on pH-D’s website, http://ph-defense.com) and called my OBGYN for advice. There was no way I was sticking something foreign and untested in my special lady part before I knew for sure it would not hurt my downtown fun land. The research is founded and true and I discovered there are many in the esteemed medical community that recommend boric acid as an alternative to harsh antibiotics. She would automatically write a prescription for one of the strongest antibiotics out there, Metronidazole (Flagyl), and would even give me unlimited refills. Boric acid is the ONLY alternative that works to strong antibiotics for recurring yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis. It is recommended by the medical community, but because there has not been a well-marketed or easy solution for administering or buying boric acid capsules, most doctors don’t even mention this great natural remedy. I read personal accounts of women buying their own boric acid powder and putting together capsules at home."
"These work to balance me out."
"I want to share my story with all of you because I know there are probably so many other women out there who have the same issues as me, and obviously it's not an easy thing to discuss with someone who isn't your doctor. Needless to say it made me feel disgusting and killed any desire for intimacy. Things I have tried to rid myself of this problem: - Unscented soaps. - Diflucan. - Monistat (ovule and creams). - Daily probiotics - taken orally and occasionally vaginally as recommended by other Amazon reviewers. - Had my BF at the time take Diflucan in case we were passing it back and forth. - Apple cider vinegar baths. - Hydrogen peroxide/water douches (when they said it was BV). - Cut out sugar and bread from my diet. - Rinse/wash outside of myself after sex. - Vagisil cleansing wipes. - ANYTHING ELSE YOU CAN EVER THINK OF EVER. I've been using them preventatively, so I've been inserting one up there once a week to keep PH balanced (usually Sunday nights before bed). Not only is there no itchiness, but discharge is finally clear and healthy, instead of thick which its been even when I didn't have an infection."
