I have a very large basement that had a high humidity of 60-70% or so it would fill the 13.1 container pints within the day, 12-24 hours. It works best in warmer weather (70's) which is when the humidity is high and mold can grow, warm and moist. I used the bucket for about 2 weeks to try it out and then I switched to the continuous drain tube which I connected a piece of clear vinyl tube (1 1/4 inch outer dia, 1 inch inner dia) from Home Depot which I connected to a "T" connector that I installed on my A/C condensation line that runs outside."

So it will click off at 45, then 10 min later it thinks its 55, the unit will click on, and immediately when the air flow is resumed, the sensor sees that its not as high as it thought, and you'll see the readout drop quickly back down. This unit could actually use a ton less energy if the sensor was placed in a location to get more accurate readings (maybe in a isolated chamber with vents directly outside of the unit, instead of INside the unit where all the water is collecting?)."

Find Best Price at Amazon"If you live in a climate where you don’t mind a certain amount of heating (Pacific NW, Midwest or New England), these are perfect. The other great benefit there is that they pump the heat outside (through the window exhaust) resulting in cool dry air inside. I would recommend both of them heartily, but they do differ in finer points, which is what detailed below: QUALITY OF THE BUILD: Both of these units are solid. Winner: Frigidaire. EASE OF MANEUVERABILITY: Both of these units come with casters attached and are breeze to roll around. One difference is that Frigidaire hydrometer goes in increments of 5% whereas hOmeLabs specifies the humidity in 1% intervals. Winner: Tie. MAINTAINING HUMIDITY LEVEL (AUTO ON/OFF): This is where both units fail in my opinion. The reality is that these units collect and store water, as such the humidity around them tends to increase quite rapidly once the airflow ceases. For example, if you set the desired level at 50%, it’ll run until it hits 45%, and it won’t turn on again until humidity rises to 55%. There’s nothing floating on top and contrary to the pictures of the product, it does not come with light blue backlight illumination. Unlike with AC or a fridge, the resulting heat is mixed with exhaust air and is pumped back into the room. Both of these units generate a comparable amount of heat based upon my totally nonscientific method of sticking my hand into the exhaust. Winner: Tie. DIRECTION OF EXHAUST: Both of these units draw air from the back and pump it out through the side. One notable difference is that Frigidaire throws it up at about 45 degree angle, resulting in a much better air circulation and, thus, much more uniform humidity level throughout the area. It also ends up not mixing the air as well in the overall area: after about 1.5 hr of operation, the humidity at knee level was ~40% (down from 65%), whereas near the ceiling was 50-55% (also, down from 65%), as measure by a network on AccuRite hydrometers."

"Early last Fall (2015) we moved from NE Florida to N. Virginia and we were warned that the gas furnaces in this house would not be able to keep up with the cold during the Winter. I'm a career network engineer, so I'm a pretty techie kind of guy, I've had to arrange for power for large computer operation facilities,etc. So, I don't care whether it's quartz, infrared, how electricity it's using, or whether or not Dr. Heater is exaggerating the performance of their product, or whatever -- it heats, it works. It's not very heavy so I don't know why it has casters on it, but I guess they make it easier to move for changing direction of the air flow or whatever. And now I don't have to worry about anything to do with heaters and can move on to other more important things in my life (like some of the other reviewers here clearly need to do as well)."
"The last thing I tried before this was a radiator heater, which would've worked well had my AC not been leaking cold air all over the apartment. This heater heats up the entire apartment (not sure the exact size, but a small one bedroom one kitchen) perfectly. I've had it running since I got it yesterday, and unlike the radiator heater, its surface stays cool. Also, the problem with the heating mentioned in my second edit still stands: I was only able to bring the room up to 65 degrees with another heater I was running. On top of that, the customer service is completely unresponsive to my contact, so I can't even utilize the warranty to fix all my problems with the heater."

With a true HEPA filter that you replace once a year (opposed to once a month) it would save money in the long run. Set up was easy straight out of the box, and I put it out of traffic areas in the house. In fact with it on high I noticed a tag on the other side of the room (directly across) was moving on one of the toys yesterday as I was cleaning. I am super excited at the thought of having better air quality in the house so we dont have as many issues, and I know it will take probably a good month for me to be able to judge that (and trust me I keep up with our flair ups b/c my son sees a specialist so I can tell you if it will make a difference or not). Sorry took me so long to come back and update =) Fortunately if you see below I did give a heads up three weeks in we still loved it. Within the first month I stopped waking up with a stuffy nose, and it was taking particles out of the air so I wasn't seeing as much dust. We have since moved to a larger place, that has more sq footage in the den, and also two open doorways leading to other rooms. I think a big contributor to not catching it is because we had this unit running on high with the uv light."
