It might save me a trip that I need to get off bed to put my laptop on my desk before I go to sleep."

A lot of things like this I've put together were made out of particleboard, or some other weak kind of wood. I know the item's description here gives the dimensions, but that's one of those things that doesn't click in your head until you get it together. We have a similar style table and chair set up in the main living room, and I got this for a secondary one in his bedroom. It was easy to put together (and I'm the kind of guy who usually swears at household projects, not finish them), and once together it felt QUITE sturdy. If the size was more in tune to the 3-8 yrs recommended in the description, I'd give this a five stars."

Note that the top bunk has guard rails, but the manual says your mattress on that bunk should be maximum 6" thick. On some of the more expensive bunk beds, the fasteners appear quite prominently, even at a distance. It was actually the cheapest twin-over-full bunk bed that we saw anywhere, and we shopped around. One last thought: You can easily slide another 6" mattress underneath the lower bunk to use as an emergency sleeping arrangement for a guest, or for your kids' occasional sleepover. If you look for bunk beds with a trundle, they can be quite expensive, so you can satisfy the same occasional need just by sliding a mattress underneath this unit...like a poor man's trundle bed..."
