A compost bin is basically just a pot with a lid on it. If you are going to order this thing and then find yourself shocked when you receive what is basically just a pot with a lid on it in the mail (despite the numerous images on this page that clearly show what is basically a pot with a lid on it), then please just go buy a pot and save yourself the trouble of posting a really stupid review on Amazon that blames the product for the fact that you didn't realize what a compost bin was. If you don't want your food scraps smelling on your countertop, but you also refuse to walk allllll the way to your compost bin more than once a week, then maybe composting isn't for you. Here's what I like about this bin: *It looks good on the countertop. *It has a carrying handle, unlike your average pot with a lid on it. *It is well-proportioned - tall enough to hold a good amount of stuff without having a huge footprint on the countertop, but not so tall that it tips over. *I've had little to no problem with fruit flies, presumably because I have been careful to only remove the lid when I am putting stuff in the bin. *It cleans easily. *It is durable and unbreakable. Basically, it does everything a compost bin should do, assuming you do not have ridiculous, uninformed, and mutually-incompatible expectations for how it will function."

I'm not sure how much the charcoal filter helps, but my main concern was odor when the can is closed, and for that purpose it works perfectly! Update: So, after working perfectly since last November, a couple weeks ago the lid decided to give up on me suddenly and completely! I called in thinking they were going to want me to send in the lid, but they surprised me by saying their policy had changed and I just had to pay a $9.95 service/shipping and handling fee and a new lid would be sent out. Since it would cost more than that to just ship the original lid in to them I had no issue paying the fee."
"It did not, so I turned to the warranty just to learn that you have to pay postage for the product in both directions and something they call, "warranty fees" which depend on where you live. I had some doubts since the warranty included with the original product was pretty clear (attached). An account had to be established online in order to initiate the return which I did not agree to, but they created an account on my behalf which I used to create the replacement order. I still feel it should not have failed in such short period of time and there still is a question as to what is their warranty as my replacement is not consistent with the warranty provided with the original product."
"Sounds pretty basic, but it IS holding garbage, and you would be amazed (or not) by the amount of crud that can get on the underside of the lid, and, possibly, inside. So, if it starts to act like its being used by poltergeists, then clean it thoroughly per the directions, especially the contacts in the battery housing and ESPECIALLY the sensor on the front. If simple cleaning doesn't work, I take some silicone lubricant and spray it into the gaps around the two buttons on the front, letting it soak down inside."

Bones, twigs, old fruit, cooked foods, left-overs, leaves, dog waste, solids and liquids--it ALL goes into our Envirocycle. And I know, you could put less trash in it so the bag wouldn't be so full and push against the inside as you try to take it out.....but that kind of defeats the purpose of having a large trash can, doesn't it? You use a large trash can because you want it to hold a lot of trash so you have to empty it less often and use fewer bags. Oh well, nothing is perfect.......UPDATE 5/20/14......I have fixed the inside of the trash can so it no longer rips the bags!"
"That makes this a perfect design for a laundry hamper for any mom (especially with little bed wetters). This idea is cheaper than most "sturdy" full sized laundry hampers and waaaay better because of being able to snap in the he liner and only pull it out when full, but still having access to put clothes in with the use of the top hatch. If your kids can't read yet, perhaps order different colored liners or tape to distinguish each hamper for easy sorting."
