In another case, I had a three pronged plug that I was using in the spare outlet, which had to be relocated, as it would not fit after installing the remote switch. Granted, we didn't also install a second Nest to have more temperature sensors, and we didn't buy their $200 talking smoke detectors which also report environmental statistics back to the thermostat. Most people won't care about this but being a network security engineer, I'm impressed that the thermostat has exactly 0 open TCP ports, outbound communication is with one IP, and total traffic is very modest."

I had been wanting to get a WiFi Thermostat for a long time now, but I held off because I was worried that I would buy one that wouldn't be compatible with my home or that I wouldn't be able to figure out how to install it. You select the wires that your current thermostat has, and then the app tells you what to label them and where they will go in the new thermostat. I had never replaced a thermostat before, and it took me under 30 minutes (which includes unboxing, looking for screwdriver, looking for AC unit shut off switch, watching how-to videos included with the app, etc). The app is handy because it also tells you your local Hi and Low temps from the forecast as well as the humidity in your home, upcoming schedule, set temp, actual temp, and the background is either blue, red, or grey depending on if your system is on Cool, Heat, or off at the moment. The only thing this is missing is a few more advanced options for the app, such as specific alerts (like if the temperature is changed manually, I would like to be able to get an instant alert on my phone) and an air filter change reminder that can be set for a certain amount of time (like 1, 2, or 3 months)."

The one thing the app does right is that it offers a master on/off switch for all of your bulbs at the top no matter where you are in it. There are things that I could envision doing with the Hue switches, color bulbs, motion detectors, voice commands etc."

"There are a couple of towers a bit farther out (down in the Akron/Canton area- I'm in Northeast Ohio in Chardon). Before I installed this GE antenna in the attic, I tested it on the main floor of the house. On ground level, in the front room, I pointed it out the window toward the broadcast towers and I could not believe the signal I got! I had to move and adjust the antenna to get signals for other channels, but it demonstrated that it's reception was quite good. I hooked it into my antenna's signal amp (it only gives me a 10 dB bump) and went back downstairs to test. Because I have a long cable run from the antenna to the splitter, I need the signal amp. For its size and lightweight design, I was extremely surprised at how much signal this antenna collects. So, my antenna is pointed at approximately 240 degrees in order to receive broadcasts from Cleveland stations. (My antenna is pointed approximately in that direction - WSW - and I'm receiving broadcasts from Cleveland, Akron, and Canton stations). It'll be interesting to see how the performance of the GE 34792 antenna changes as the weather warms up and the trees fill in. Update 2/18/2015 - Channel 33 out of Youngstown is no longer being consistently received (the signal comes and goes). This certainly can be chalked up to atmospheric conditions because the antenna is not pointed toward that broadcast tower. However, with the antenna pointed toward Cleveland and Akron towers, I'm getting rock solid reception. This explains why I was always adjusting the RCA ANT-751, a more directional antenna whose signal reception was more narrow and focused. In fact, it's more in line (west) with Cleveland towers (where the antenna is pointed) than 17 and 23 (which are farther south). So, it appears the solution to grabbing Channel 49 is to simply upgrade my signal amplifier (due to my long cable run from attic to basement). Still, it's nice to know if the signal amplifier stops working, I don't have to run out and purchase a new one right away. Again, the only Cleveland station not received (signal amp disconnected) is 55 (CW Network). Update 12/10/2015 - A rather large fog blanketed the area last Saturday evening. I realize that atmospheric conditions can come into play and this particular change in the weather had me scratching my head."

I decided I would go with Etekcity Line IR thermometer based on Amazon Best seller Etekcity 774 (best seller most reviewed and priced very affordable at $16.88). After researching other Etekcity models I found many different options that offered different ranges, features, and spot/distance ratios up to 16:1 with 12:1 being the higher standard and what most higher end brands have.. spot/distance ratios range from 8:1 to 16:1 in this class of IR tool. I submitted a question to them through Amazon and Etekcity responded within the same day offering to call me , as I had a lot of questions..I was able to immediately open a chat conversation with Etekcity customer reps and they were VERY helpful in explaining to me the advantages / differences in all of their IR thermometers. Find Best Price at Amazon"PERFORMANCE IN COLD WEATHER. For the past 5 years, I've used the Big Buddy heaters to heat two small cabins, 200 sq feet each, with vaulted ceilings. Without the Big Buddy, my primary cabin averages 37 F in the winter, and my studio averages 35 F. With the Big Buddy, I can keep either cabin at a toasty 65 to 70 F. In the past, I used the smaller Mr. Cabin: From full cold (37 to 45 F indoors), it feels like it takes forever to heat 200 sq feet on low. It just provides a radiant heat source for the side of your body that faces it. INDOORS AT NIGHT -- DON'T DO IT. Although it is safe to use indoors, and after years of experience with these heaters, I'm confident in that claim, I still do not recommend running it at night or while you're sleeping. The wire cage that protects you from the ceramic elements is well designed -- far enough from the elements to protect against accidental touch, without adding too much bulk. This is especially important when you're wearing bulky layers and unknowingly dangling coat sleeves, lanyards, and jacket corners. Makes the entire package bulky, susceptible to damage, annoyingly shaped, and hard to store around other objects. You'll be able to pack it more efficiently, travel without worrying about moisture, and move it wherever you want without risking so much damage. I suggest you shop around."
"We have a 25lb propane tank hooked up to it with the hose kit accessory. I knocked off a star because of the fan feature. I don't recommend using batteries because they don't last long (8hrs max) and it's very quiet, so it's easy to forget that it's on even after turning it off. One last tip: if you're using a 25lb gas propane tank, you only need to turn the value on the tank about 3/4 to one full turn."
"I did spring for the quick connect propane hose by Mr. Heater for hooking up 20-40lb propane cylinders. If you buy the regulated quick connect hose you DO NOT have to buy the filters for running bulk propane. This heater can be hooked up to (2) bulk propane tanks at the same time using connection hoses for bulk propane 20lb cylinders adapted to the 1lb connector or (1) 20lb bulk tank using the quick connect hose (to clarify for absolute clarity it only has (1) quick connect inlet and has an additional (2) propane inlets that are fitted for 1lb bottles. It does not matter what side you hook up propane to or in what manner you hook it up, the heater will run normally and work on all of its temperature settings (yes this was brought up in other reviews and is a source of confusion). The heater puts out a lot of heat on the HIGH settings and other reviews of the 1lb bottles freezing up on HIGH settings are more than likely accurate. This is no fault to the heater, it's just that on HIGH this thing eats up a good bit of propane and over a period of time empties those 1lb bottles more quickly, thus the moving gas freezes up the bottle. The connections seem machined well and I have never had a problem using my Mr. heater hoses."
