"I bought this device to measure the sidecar brake rotor temperature on my Russian Ural motorcycle."
"As the job progressed I was able to determine if the foil made a difference in keeping out the heat. Testing the finished and unfinished areas on that side with the gun I found a 20 to 30 degree difference."
"It reads temps well but as noted you have to be about 8" from the item which at times is difficult in my environment. 2) the cover for the battery (on the trigger side of the handle) will not stay closed."
"For instance I could go around the radiant heat floor and basically trace where the hot water tubes were located. For oven temperatures, I love the temp average features (ok, for room temps, etc) because I keep the trigger down and scan areas or objects in the oven, then look at the average."
"pointed it at my car's radiator hose (after the engine was warm & thermostat was open) and to my surprise it was within couple of degrees of what the car was displaying!!!"
"This reads only the surface temp. If you point it at the pool, it will only tell you the surface water temp, not what the water temperaure is inside of the pool."
"The instructions and website are very helpful and the case in well made which has a nice belt loop on it should you need to carry it with you for continual use."

Find Best Price at Amazon"This will roughly give you a temperature of 212 F. Boiling water, in equilibrium (or the entire fluid being the same temperature) will maintain 212F no matter how quickly the water is evaporating. In practice, these are used for taking a quick, general measurement of fluid temperature or identifying heat losses. I have used this at my home to identify what rooms are cooler then others, draughts around doors or windows and leaks in the HVAC system."
"I've checked that the air coming out of my AC is cold, what the temperature is in different rooms in my house, and 25 ft ceilings, if my pizza is safe to eat without getting pizza palate, I also insulated the compressor pipe on the outside of my house."
"Warnings about pointing at animals and people should be strictly adhered to as with any laser product to prevent eye damage and shouldn’t be used or handled by children."
"I also like that the company sent a follow up letter asking if I had any questions or concerns."
"It seemed to be not as accurate as this unit and lasted just several years and then began to give random readings."
"This works great on any solid, matte surface, just as the description says."
"Lots of custom/ aftermarket parts makes troubleshooting a little more involved than a factory car."
"IF you need high precision readings then I would recommend stepping up to a better model with the ability to calibrate temps and dial in the correct emessivity for different surfaces."

"Its comfortable to hold in your hand, and it has survived being dropped many times. This is a must buy for any cook professional or amateur."
"The reason I write this review today is I just discovered a useful feature. of which I was unaware. The protective case will snap onto the end of the thermometer opposite the probe thereby doubling its length."
"It doesn't have an automatic timed shut off so the power button must be pushed to turn it off. But I've left mine on for days and the battery has lasted well over a year. Used the first one for almost 2 years without changing the battery even after leaving the unit on for days. Laws of thermodynamics dynamics say that water is in all states, liquid, gas and ice. Molecules of ice absorb heat and turn to steam at 212degrees F. If testing boiling water, at sea level and the standard barometric pressure, it must read less than 212F as any water that reaches that temp becomes steam."
"This thing is bullet proof."
"Ironically it's small size makes it less likely for me to use it as it can sit in my pocket and feel pretty much like a sharpie instead of the full size thermometers that will stick out and get caught on things / fall out etc never to be seen again (Anyone who really works in food service knows if you lose your thermometer you may never see it again."
"Fast, but my neighbor's reads a couple degrees differently than mine, in the exact same cup of warm water."
"Pros: Fast, accurate, waterproof, easy to use, and a great price at +/- $20."

Best Dial Thermometers

Each fry kettle has its own instructions, but generally for best results the oil should first be heated to between 375 and 400 degrees Fahrenheit, and after the bird is added, maintained at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Large and easy-to-read, the 2-inch dial registers temperatures ranging from 100 to 500 degrees Fahrenheit, and can be left in after cooking is complete to ensure the oil has completely cooled. A 14-pound bird usually cooks in approximately 45 minutes. Since a large amount of hot oil is required, turkeys and other poultry should always be deep-fried outdoors. Measurement Range:100 to 500 F/38 to 260 C. Adjustable stainless steel clip-5 year limited warranty.

"The clip, which is a big failure point on most thermometers worked well on my pot and provides some degree of swivel to point it straight down into the oil and keep it out of the way."
"This works great on my wood stove for keeping eye on temerature of stove."
"Great item, it was better than expected, superb condition, would deal with again, highly recommended, shipping was fast."
"However, I found it a bit difficult to keep the probe close to the wall of the pot - it kept wandering into the middle and getting in the way of my fry tools."
"Mine stopped working completely after the first use, the way it measures temp is by a coil metal filament inside the long neck."
"We took the temp of the oil with another thermometer and it read almost 500 degrees!"
"I just stuck it into a deep fryer for a quick read and this one did not show temp accurately, or compared to the built in thermometer on the fryer or my neighbors $100 plus thermapen."
Best Glass Thermometers

Featuring advanced technology, quality construction, easy-to-read displays and user-friendly operations, CDN thermometers are essential tools in any kitchen. Made of premium grade stainless steel, the 7-inch-long slender probe is also useful for testing the temperature of roasts and deep-frying oil. An oversized stainless-steel clip attaches the thermometer firmly to the side of a fry vat or candy pan, and the large 1-3/4-inch dial is easy to read. The protective sheath, which features a pocket clip and loop to conveniently hold the probe, lists various types of meats along with the USDA recommended internal temperature for each. Long stainless-steel clip attaches to deep frying vat or candy pan.

Find Best Price at Amazon"I have read the many complaints about the clip, but don't quite understand why that is enough of an issue to downgrade this fine thermometer. If you leave the thermometer clipped to the edge of the pan, you will never get a really accurate reading for delicate sugar preparations. Just stir the pan really well, submerge the tip of the thermometer in the mixture, making very sure to NOT touch the bottom of the pan(this will cause a false reading, as the bottom of the pan next to the burner will be much hotter than the mixture as a whole), and Voila!, you will have a very precise temp."
"I've been too prideful about my candy making skills to buy a thermometer for too long!"
"the clip on this model is angled which makes it hard to hook onto a pot that has a straight edge and not a lip."
"I was a little hesitant at first after reading the reviews that stated how the screen would go black after it got to a certain tempurature."
"Excellent ~ I have only used this once but it worked great."
"I cook my sugar to 350F to make a bit more flavorful caramel sauce."
"The alarm goes off 3* prior to the temp you set it at."
"However, the weld on the clip that holds it to the pot busted after the first use!"

Find Best Price at Amazon"This device is probably the best single purchase that I have made on Amazon in my three-plus years of Prime membership. It functions wonderfully as a distance thermometer, shining a tiny red dot on what I'm measuring and, based on comparison with a thermoscan camera at work, is pretty accurate across a range of temperatures from 0°F up to about 400°F. The button that turns on the device has a very soft click, barely perceptible, so it won't distract your faithful (or in the case of cats) persistent companions. *Probably won't reliably measure the temperature of flames at a safe enough distance, so don't get too close to fire."
"Etekcity Line of Lasergrip IR Themometers ( 1022D, 800, & 630) compared to Klein IR1000. I am not a Professional HVAC or auto mechanic but I do a lot of work myself on my home and vehicles.. An IR thermometer has many uses. I bought this as a homeowner to verify hot/cold spots around my home. I decided I would go with Etekcity Line IR thermometer based on Amazon Best seller Etekcity 774 (best seller most reviewed and priced very affordable at $16.88). After researching other Etekcity models I found many different options that offered different ranges, features, and spot/distance ratios up to 16:1 with 12:1 being the higher standard and what most higher end brands have.. spot/distance ratios range from 8:1 to 16:1 in this class of IR tool. I submitted a question to them through Amazon and Etekcity responded within the same day offering to call me , as I had a lot of questions..I was able to immediately open a chat conversation with Etekcity customer reps and they were VERY helpful in explaining to me the advantages / differences in all of their IR thermometers. Etekcity 1022D- $19.99 Etekcity Lasergrip 1022D Non-contact Digital Infrared Thermometer, Dual Laser, Blue. my first IR from Etekcity: I like the idea of Dual lasers & adjustable emissivity. Etekcity 800 Lasergrip - $25.98 Etekcity Lasergrip 800 Non-contact Digital Laser IR Infrared Thermometer Temperature Gun, Yellow/Black. Features: Single Laser. 16:1 distance to Spot ratio. Emissivity- FIXED at .95. Range: -58℉ - 1382℉. After a disappointing test of the Etekcity 1022D I read reviews and decided to look at the 800, It features better accuracy at range with a 16:1 distance spot ration. *** Etekcity 630 Dual Lasergrip - $29.99 Etekcity Lasergrip 630 Dual Laser Non-contact Digital Infrared Thermometer, Gray and Black. First impression was how it was packaged in a nice solid cardboard box ( unlike the plastic blister packs of the others including the Klein. The most features, options and in my tests most accurate ( accuracy is negligible between 800 & 630 both are well with in the +/- .5 to 2.0 tolerance). Features: Dual laser for better accuracy. 16:1 Distance to Spot Ratio. Emissivity: ADJUSTABLE. Range: -58℉~1076℉. Multi function menu options ( MAX/Min temp setting, AVG and Diff/ TD). I chose the 630 over the 800 mainly due to the extra menu options ( AVG, MAX, MIn , Diff) adjustable emissivity ,and dual laser aside form that the 800 & 630 perform identically. the 1022D and 774 are priced well at under $20.00 but for more features and higher specs I think one will not go wrong with the Etekcity 800 or Feature rich Etekcity 630."
"I bought this product because I thought my refrigerator was not cold enough, and I saw the tech that previously came out using a lazer thermometer to gauge the temps inside."
