Best Power Straight Grinders

The DEWALT DCG414T2 flexible 60V MAX* Grinder with kickback brake kit features FLEXVOLT technology; the world's first battery that automatically changes voltage when you change tools. The kickback brake engages when a pinch, stall, or bind-up event is sensed and the electronic brake engages with maximum force to quickly stop the wheel, reduce the movement of the grinder, and shut the grinder off. Brake engages when trigger is released, stopping speeds of 1.5 seconds with standard grinding wheel.

Find Best Price at Amazon"I was hooked...I always have 3 grinders; one dedicated to grinding/flap wheels, one to cup and stinger brushes and one to cut off wheels. I was enthusiastic about a cordless grinder with the power of a corded grinder...so much that I almost bought 2 right off, but calmed down and decided to "try" 1 first. I also prefer a support handle with rubber grip...this one is hard plastic like any of the cheapest grinders...it's somewhat petty but I can feel the diffence especially when using a stringer brush and the grinder is trying to run away...based on cost I expect the better handle. I'll buy another one with batteries but might wait until I let the smoke out of one of the corded grinders."
"Compact heavy duty and powerful."
"We own many Dewalt battery operated tools never not been satisfied, this is a great grinder for small projects."
"The first thing I did to test the power and runtime of the grinder was throw on my King Arthur tools chainsaw carving wheels to see how it handled those."
"It met up to my expectations."
"Just blows my mind, DeWalt perfected the tool less replacement of blades on the DC300 and they did not leverage it here?"

The one downside I see with this tool is that it could use an optional ringed handguard to keep precious flesh away from more aggressive bits and the collet when choking up."
"UPDATE: After a year of regular service, I still consider this to be an exceptional tool."
"I was wondering if the seller verify if indeed this die grinder is 1/4" collet (hopefully is not a metric one) or if any buyer has the same experience and can share the solution. I searched Internet for a while and found a way to get out of the collect completely and then I can put this bit on and tighten up with the collet wrench."
"I have only gotten into trouble once with the grinder and the joint system stopped the bit without burning up the motor. The grinder isn't extremely comfortable in your hand, but it is certainly not uncomfortable."
"The tool is generally high quality, but there is definitely one defect that seems to be an intermittent problem with users - the collet. Buy some valve grinding compound from your auto parts store and apply to the 1/4" shank of your rotary tool. The valve grinding compound will evidently smooth out some high spots or burrs and allow the tool to be removed much easier."
"I read the reviews (one by a professional engineer) on Amazon regarding this item after the same problem with the first one and they rather parallel my experience. Amazon should discontinue carrying this item until Makita corrects the problem."

"WELL BUILT TOOL JUST A BIT TO BIG FOR THE TIGHT WORK IN THE WORK I WANTED IT FOR."

"I HAVE 3 OF THESE AND HAD OWNED THIS ONE ABOUT 30 DAYS BEFORE THE BASE WHERE BLADES ATTACHED CAME APART AND REVEALED A COMPRESSION SPRING SPERATION. GUARD STILL DOES NOT WORK AND UNIT CONTINUES TO GRIND WHEN THE ANGLE GRINDER IS IN USE. They noted the issues I was having and said they would send a new angle grinder and would email a UPS label to return the old one."
"I have wanted an angle grinder for a while now, and our concrete sidewalk project helped make it so."
"Big and heavy, but solid and durable."
"I always cheaped out on grinders and every 3 or 4 months I'd be at the budget tool store spending $20 on a grinder after burning mine up."
"Most grinders I take the guard off due to interference with work but this one can be quickly rotated to different position so that it is not a hindrance."
"I have the one step up larger also which will take a large disc but don't use it as much as this one is just easier to grab."
"Faced with clogged, worthless sandpaper on the belt sander, I knew exactly what tool combination I needed, and this Angle Grinder with a high speed wire brush did not disappoint!"

"At first glance it seems like a decent grinder, but there is a lot of vibration on my workbench when its running."
"It has a lot of muscle behind it; so much that it doesn't even start to bog down when I am doing some serious grinding on severely rusted rail road ties and other higher quality knife steel."
"Great grinder, I purchased a 120 wheel at the same time and I am using the 60 / 120 grit wheels."
"Nice grinder for the price even though it is China."
"Mine was damaged in shipping (something amazon needs to work on) due to poor packaging."
"Great bench grinder for the shop!"
"I read the negative reviews and should have heeded the warnings...but I ordered one anyway and it arrived today. But we also found that the shoulder on the shaft that the inside cone washer seats against had a high spot on it. These are simple machines: no gears or complex mechanisms, just a motor with an extended shaft. The Apple computer I'm using to write this review was also made in China and it's a beautifully crafted machine."
