Shoulder Screws are distinct from other types of screws due to the fact that they are only partially threaded, leaving a smooth-sided round or square shaft between the threading and the head. Martensitic Stainless Steels are stronger, but less corrosion resistant than the more common Austenitic Stainless Steels (e.g. 303, 304, 316). Stainless Steel 416 contains 0.15% carbon, along with traces of sulfur which makes this alloy easier to machine than Stainless Steel 304 or 316 (for example).
