And as many people suggest to empty the torch before refilling it, you won't waste that last bit of fuel like with other torches, where the flame just slowly goes down to an unusably small flame for the last 10% of the gas. Then wait at least 20-25 minutes to allow the gas to warm up inside the torch; it is very cold and there is the possibility of liquid butane being sent through the nozzle of your torch, which will damage it."

Find Best Price at Amazon"Works pretty well, regulator works well, down to a fairly small flame and up to a massive one that's almost like a jet engine. ignites flame on first spark, the best way to start it is by turning the gas knob until you can hear it pointed in a safe direction, and spark it, then adjust to a smaller flame, I doubt this uses much extra gas and makes it work every time. Fuel window is pretty easy to read, you'll probably need to use a flashlight or something, because the butane is clear and a little hard to see otherwise, but that's not the fault of the product, it's just the nature of the fuel."

"Out of curiosity I decided to measure and record the output of both welders with an amp meter while test welding. The numbers bounced around some but what I found was: Plugged direct to a 115v 30A outlet, with welder set to the following I measured: 160-> 130-140A. 140-> 120A. 120-> 100A. 100-> 85-95A. 80 -> 65A (this explains why I had trouble). On a 230v 30A outlet I measured: 160-> 140A. 120-> 106A. On a positive note, even with a 25ft extension cord on the 115v 30A outlet I still measured: 160->132 amps. 120->100 amps. Even though my meter is supposedly accurate to 3%, just to compare, with my HF welder I measured the following on a 115v 30A outlet: 80-> 102 amps. 67-> 86-100 amps. 55-> 87-89. (The HF welder has Hot Start and Arc Force so the higher numbers were expected but i did not expect it to be as high as I measured). My outlets have plenty of power so I can only conclude that the 160 amp rating is false, at least for the unit I recieved. This welder does not feel like it has any noticable hot start or arc force or anti stick function. On the HF welder I could measure with the meter, the hot start amps surge and arc force changes, it would measure 100A starting then it would stablize at 86A. With this welder the measured amps were more consistent."

This Hobart welder is much more solidly constructed that a 'similar' (name brand) welder that I recently purchased at one of the box stores, in every respect. The wire feed assembly is all metal, compared to mostly plastic components of my (name brand). The Hobart came with a 10' mig gun and a 10' clamp, where the (name brand) came with a 6' and 10' clamp cable. Every component of the Hobart was just sturdier than the (name brand). The (name brand) welder I purchased came with a ...sub-standard... regulator, but this Hobart shipped with a much higher quality regulator. I don't know if it's because the the clamp on the Hobart was superior, or the tip was better designed, or ... maybe it was just me being happier with the apparently better equipment and so doing a better job, but the Hobart was easier to work with. Whether pushing or pulling my beads, the Hobart just seemed easier to work with than my (name brand) welder."

Find Best Price at Amazon"I read all the reviews before my purchase, It works, functions as it advertised, I have an older model hyperthem plasma cutter, and I have used other types and models from various companies, this is not production equipment, do not expect the same level of production from it, I purchased it for home use, Smaller stuff, carbon steel, stainless, aluminum below 1/8 inch thick it works ok, 3/16 an above you have to take your time, don't try to zip it like other machines. But if you are looking for a small machine, that works, going to use it at home for hobby or small projects, then this is the machine for you, lower cost than others, Plus no gas cost or hose, regulators, ect. Bottom line: test it when you get it, it's a good system for the price, (update)keep a wire brush handy, about every 2nd cut hit the tip with wire brush, I've found out that by doing this,(while tip is still hot) it extends the life of the tip. it seems that slag blown from the metal sticks on the tip, which causes failure on tip and electrodes,going to try a gel mix on the tip to see if it solves the problem. looking for replacement that fits the cup size, hyperthem stand off product doesnt work on these tips."

"The only problem I had was that one of the connectors on the front of the unit shorted out where it touched the welding cart I put it on. I forget if it was the HF connector or the start button connector, but it was a ring connector that is exposed when it is installed on the threaded post, and it shorted to the welding cart. I bought one and regret buying it, I even went to the extent of putting a rectifier and capacitors in my original 110v flux core welder, and it helped. Find Best Price at Amazon"With this station you need to pay quite careful attention to the way the solder flows when you heat the joint, if you want to produce high quality solder joints. Now for the really important information that I wanted to pass on to users of this iron: I was so used to using my medium size tip in this heat range that when it finally burned out and I replaced it with a fine point, I just turned the iron on and waited for it to heat up so I could tin the tip and start using it. I thought I had a bad tip BUT here's the kicker: heat level 3 was too high for the fine tip, so it immediately overheated and oxidized. Operating in the low power range, it takes a while for the tip to come up to temp, and to recover its temperature after soldering a few joints. If time isn't money and you are prepared to closely monitor what's going on at the tip, there's no reason why you can't make perfect solder joints with this iron. For at least the ten years I've had this iron, I have kept all solder waste and soldered wire clippings in a flip-top container."
