APA Style Guide to Electronic References, Sixth Edition
Most important, it provides a wealth of examples for readers to model for everything from online journal articles to supplemental data sets and measurement instruments to books, videos, apps, websites, podcasts, blog posts, and social media.
Reviews
"Consider the sheer volume of electronic books, periodicals, literature, video, audio, and other media that, in order to give proper credit to the source, must be formatted to allow a reader to be able to look up that source."
"There is a Table of Contents, but its categories are so broad as to be useless; browseable subcategories for the References section like Electronic Journals, Audiovisual Materials, Social Media, etc."
"Every student needs a copy of this book."
"Although I love the policy of publishing the Kindle version only for this guide (presumably based on the somewhat archaic view that only people who buy Kindle version of books will use electronic version of psychology articles. One serious omission: Curiously, it has no section specifically for the journal articles published in an e-journal that is published only in the electronic format (that is, it is not advance publications for paper version of journals). Life is too short to worry about adding the URL string "[...] to all entries in the reference list with the doi information!"
"My work involves a significant amount of research, and APA is the dominant style used in my writing."
"Excellent book for use with writing papers especially when you have multiple electronic sources or apps that you need to cite."
"I am using textbooks for school."
"Very helpful for my dissertation."

Chasing the Ripper (Kindle Single)
Chasing the Ripper offers a surprisingly personal and revealing look into what it has been like for Cornwell to pursue the most sensational murder case in criminal history—even as she continues to thrill her fans with a steady diet of new Scarpetta novels, including Flesh and Blood , her latest New York Times bestseller. Her novels have won numerous prestigious awards including the Edgar, the Creasey, the Anthony, the Macavity, and the Prix du Roman d’Aventure.
Reviews
"Is she attempting to supplement her original book on the Ripper? She seems genuinely frustrated and weary of this case, but exhibits a strong sense of duty in leaving nothing untouched. I read the original book more than a decade ago, and I honestly thought she solved the case at that point."
"Since reading this overview of Patricia Cornwell's attempt at finding the truth I can't wait to read her book."
"I had never heard of any of the evidence for Jack the Ripper as presented by Patricia Cornwell. Cannot wait to dive in to her full length book!"
"Good quick read if it been awhile since reading first treatise written some time ago."
"Cornwell is mad as hell that she gets no respect for her Ripper sleuthing and feels compelled to let us all know."

The Long Run (Kindle Single)
After nearly twenty years of chasing oblivion, a fight in a bar reveals to a newly sober Mishka Shubaly that he is able to run long distances. The charms of Shubaly's writing are many: his adoring metaphors for drinking reveal it as his true unrequited love; his self-examination has Thoreau-like depth; and his exposition transforms the pedestrian into the sublime. What's more, Shubaly is earnestly obstinate, yet capable of change; a nihilist, and yet he seeks meaning; a walking contradiction and a joy to spend time with on paper.
Reviews
"Shubaly's story is worth reading, even if you find yourself asking when the protagonist if this story is going to get his head on straight."
"This book will make you want to run, and if you're struggling with consistency, this book will make you feel as though you've got no excuse NOT to run. This book is about more than just running."
"Good perspective on the power of running."
"In most cases such as Mishka's, life itself becomes un underdeveloped experience leaving a 32 year old young man, functioning at a much younger age level if at all. Food, sugar, smoking, shopping, sex, you name it, ...whatever ones addicition, Mishka has shared an amazing personal experience that truly should be applauded with extreme admiration and used as a model proving the power of the mind."
"The first half felt a lot like A Million Little Pieces by James Frey. I read A Million Little Pieces just before the whole 'debacle' between James Frey and Oprah Winfrey erupted. I firmly believe that exercise (any form, doesn't have to be running) is extremely good for you, both mentally and physically."
"It is a triumph that is real, viable and believable and gives us hope that there is a light at the end of whatever tunnel we might be in."
"This book was a quick read."
"But I am almost hesitant sometimes to pick up a novel or even a decent sized book these days for fear that I wont be able to finish. That a once, almost hopeless, addict could rise and up and publish such high quality work, is a testament to how our world is changing."

Best 90-Minute Self-Help Short Reads

Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends On It
In December of 2011, I gave a talk to an audience of scientists, Pentagon officials, politicians, and CEO's on the secret of life and how I'd figured it out the previous summer. Afterwards, people came up individually and told me how much what I'd shared meant to them. I've trekked to one of the highest base camps in the Himalayas, meditated with Tibetan monks in the Dalai Lama's monastery, earned my US Army Infantry patch, walked 550 miles across Spain, lived in Paris, been the only non-black, non-woman member of the Black Women's writers' group, written a novel, held the hands of dying patients, and worked with some of the best people in Silicon Valley.
Reviews
"I have used it with great success with many of my patients - I've come to the conclusion, that for many people who suffer from anxiety and depression, also seem to lack the ability to have self-compassion or love themselves..."
"And in between eating, and working, and going out and showing how cool and happy I was by having massive drinking nights with my buddies, I started searching. I read all the self-help books from my Dad's shelves, all the Tony Robbins and Brian Tracy and Zig Ziglar, and I loved it. I bought my own books, `Change Your Thinking', `Authentic Happiness', `How To Change Your Life in 30 Days'. And so I'd close my book and go home and I'd eat, and my deep down worries that maybe I wasn't so special after all would drift away. When my (first) marriage ended, my husband wondered how he hadn't seen it coming just by looking properly at my bookshelf. I've ticked off many challenges, said no to a bunch of `you gotta dos', and I'm enjoying my ongoing development. But when I read Kamal's book and I looked in the mirror and tried to - without blinking - say `I love myself', I cried. You don't stop to think about whether the things you're working your life away for reflect self-love or just quiet desperation. The direction of my life has changed in the past 8 or 9 days since reading this book. The real me, the one I've been hiding without knowing it, thinking won't be good enough, is coming out to play."
"Trying hard to do away with some negative programming that resurfaced when I broke no contact. Forgot to add that the rewiring for negative memories, that come to mind, is good stuff."
"Real Truths are simple."
"I bought this book for my mom and a copy for myself so we could discuss it together."
"Read this book and then read it again...as if your life depends on it ...because it does!"
"It uses a simplistic, brute force kind of approach to learning self-love, but this is a necessary part of overcoming long ingrained patterns of poor self-esteem. I have found this to be true with many programs of self-help, but I think this book could have additions about a more long term practice - it could be developed much further."
"I'm hearing this message of knowing and live your truth over and over."

A Christmas Carol
A captivating holiday tale, extolling Christian love, hope, and generosity. In the history of English literature, Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol , which has been continuously in print since it was first published in the winter of 1843, stands out as the quintessential Christmas story.
Reviews
"Written almost a century and half ago, I was surprised to find Great Expectations exceed my own expectations from this book."
"And, I thoroughly enjoyed this audio edition of the book; the reader was fantastic with his many voices and his great inflections; he did a superb job. While I love listening to audio books (it makes exercising so much more tolerable! ), I need to remember that where Dickens is concerned, it's best to listen to the entire book...I mean, what's the hurry when I need to keep exercising anyway??!?!?! However, true to form, Dickens has some of the most classic lines ever written; as in, "Why ain't you ugly?" Have Shares enough to be on Boards of Direction in capital letters, oscillate on mysterious business between London and Paris, and be great. Or the lovely heroine, Bella who proclaims: "I have made up my mind, Pa, that I must have money. And, even in Bella Wilfer, who does change her mind about the value of love over money as the story progresses."
"Christmas is often difficult for people with family issues."
"I love this audiobook: Frank Muller does such a good job of reading Great Expectations, changing his voice for all of the different characters (which is quite impressive in this book, as there are at least 2 dozen!). I wanted the same reader though, because Frank Muller really brings the characters to life in this version, If you love Great Expectations, this is the audio book for you."
"This book is a classic for a reason -- Dickens' insight into the human mind and spirit is phenomenal."
"Pip's story is really a 19th century soap opera--love, loss, fights, tears, mystery, death, criminals, friends...pretty much whatever you could come up with."
"Although Oliver Twist experienced some rough times, and was an Orphan and left motherless, I suggest you read if you don't believe that Charles Dickens does do happy endings."

Hope Is the Thing with Feathers (2017 Advent Calendar - Stocking Stuffers)
Fifty-six-year-old Samuel Phipps is all alone on his small farm in the Ozarks, with nothing but a menagerie of chickens, pheasants, turkeys, and other birds as company—which is just the way he likes it.
Reviews
"Hope can be a fleeting thing until you have something to hope for."
"The book is actually filled with a humorous, charming holiday theme and a rare feature for romance stories; two mature, seasoned men as the main characters. Strong character building and a nuanced Ozark setting is remarkably good for such a short novella, but that’s only to be expected from the talented Mr. Witt."
"4 ½ Stars. Short Story: Hope is the Thing With Feathers. Author: Brandon Witt. Publisher: Dreamspinner Press. Series: Dreamspinner Advent Calendar 2017. Genre: Contemporary Romance. Release: Nov 30 2017. Rated: Mature. Length: 51 Pages. Ahhhh so fun, in this ohhh to short story!! Our “Free Spirir” Raymond Webber who is 67, a flower child, loving no clothes and a joint or two to relax is going to be quite a culture shoch to our Grinch."
"Raymond and Samuel meet under unfortunate circumstances, but Raymond likes what he sees in Samuel and pursues him. Samuel can help ground Raymond, and Raymond brings Samuel a renewed interest in doing more than going through the motions of life."
"Raymond Webber is horrified when he discovers he has inadvertently hurt Samuel, one of the few older gay men in El Dorado in the Ozarks. The story is told entirely in Samuel’s point of view, so I was able to see how he processes the world around him. When Wesley Ryan (from the book Then the Stars Fall), comes to drop off feed and cookies, Samuel sees that he does, in fact, have connections with the community. Raymond has to try to get back into Samuel’s good books and, as they say, the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach."

Batman: The Killing Joke (Deluxe Edition)
Presented for the first time with stark, stunning new coloring by Brian Bolland, BATMAN: THE KILLING JOKE is Alan Moore's unforgettable meditation on the razor-thin line between sanity and insanity, heroism and villainy, comedy and tragedy. This is a no-holds-barred take on a truly insane criminal mind, masterfully written by British comics writer Alan Moore. The Killing Joke provoked fury among many readers who lamented the disposal of Barbara Gordon as a mere pawn to testosterone; yet Gordon reinvents herself later as superinfohacker Oracle, poster girl for disability empowerment (see Birds of Prey, LJ 7/08).
Reviews
"Playing the Arkham video games by Rocksteady made Batman really stand out."
"The book reveals how he was once sane but turned insane due to personal reasons (read the book)."
"Before reading The Killing Joke, I've ready V for Vendetta and Watchmen. Both are other graphic novels written by Alan Moore. I had no idea what to expect, but a friend of mine did call this (in his opinion) the greatest graphic novel of all time. They're all awesome, so of course I was gonna love Batman in this story too. This story isn't so much about Batman fighting bad guys as it is about proving the joker wrong. Batman (and Gordon) are pushed to their limits as they not only try to stop the joker, but prove him wrong. One thing I liked from another comic, Batman: Hush, was the use of other DC characters to progress the story, but I really liked how The Killing Joke told another amazing story with less character in less pages."
"But that's just me, and don't get me wrong, some of his pictures have an absolutely incredible amount of depth, you can just see layer after layer of the character. This book is an absolute gem, Bolland and Moore play off one another to absolute perfection, one of the best comics I've ever read."
"The events in this story felt much more real than other superhero comics/graphic novels that I have read in the past."

The Book Case (Kindle Single)
With deadpan humor and skeptical eye, the determined detective is on the case, and everyone who has the misfortune to be connected to Parker is a suspect—the failing mystery writer in town to sign books; the beautiful young wife, and the bookstore employee who appears to be more nervous than aggrieved. Detective John Corey is one of the only officers at the scene--a crime bookstore--who doesn’t believe the death was an accident. DeMille has contributed to several successful films, including The General’s Daughter, Silent Madness, and Word of Honor.
Reviews
"Quick read."
"What appears to be an accident to some, looks like either a truly freaky accident, or murder to others."
"DeMille at his very best in a short tale, exciting pace and characters with a much deserved ending."
"I often find myself wanting when I compare the story to the author's full length novels."
"The Book Case (Kindle Single) First let me start by stating that I almost always stay away from short stories; I don't enjoy them, even if included in anthologies. I knew when buying this, though, that it was a short (I checked out the page length) but I was so starved for some Nelson DeMille and especially knowing it was about John Corey that I took the chance and bought it. The suspects are the man's wife, an author, an employee...DeMille cleverly uses his trademark sarcastic wit to play with the situation and poke fun and everyone, including himself."
"Love this detective - smart AND funny !!"
"In "The Book Case" we have the owner Otis Parker dead after a bookcase falls on him. There are a number of reviewers complaining of characters not being developed well enough. There are some shorts out there written by top authors that really do not cut it and fall rather flat."
"Disappointing."
