A Lap Around Alaska: An AlCan Adventure
If you dream of packing up your four-wheeler, your snow boots and camera, and setting off to explore the wilderness, A Lap Around Alaska will give you a rare glimpse into the Land of the Midnight Sun, of moose, bear, and bald eagles, of monumental glaciers and scenery so staggering it brings tears to your eyes. Of course, you never want things to go terribly wrong, but it does make for great stories when disaster strikes. Driving almost eight thousand miles in a 21 year old Subaru Outback, up and across some of the most desolate roads in the world, disasters were certainly a possibility, but I made it up and back in one piece. When I think of this trip, though, it will always be about the solitary moments, pulled off to the side of a lonely road, looking out across at a shimmering lake, or a thundering river, or watching two foxes play or a black bear dig for grubs. He once dominated the Lithuanian Clog Dancing Romance category for two heady days back in 2013. Although he has never matched either of these two career highlights, he keeps plugging away.Shawn hails from Mossyrock, Washington--the setting for his first two books, Feels Like the First Time, and Both Sides Now. He is a full time author who lives in picturesque Seaview, Washington on the Pacific Ocean. He worked as a Managing Broker of a real estate office, DJed at radio stations in Montana, Wyoming, Washington and California, sold stuff that you definitely wanted, cooked your hamburgers, fished for crabs, bought for department stores, and traveled the country with the Unlimited Hydroplanes.

This is me
It is a story of a solo quest to get to Alaska by kayak with very little experience, surviving in the wilderness along the way; it’s a story of learning to believe in yourself when some others think you’re crazy, of putting one foot in front of the other each day, and of trusting your wits to get you out of a situation if it all goes wrong.

"In clean, simple, direct prose Danny tells the story of a trip of a lifetime paddling an old sea kayak from Vancouver, BC to Ketchikan, AK a trip that, at least on paper, he was woefully unprepared for."
"That and our society today is too busy doing the 9-5 work slog very few people today know what an Adventure really is."
"As a child, I loved listening to my Scottish great-grandparents talk - their accents, and phraseology were beautiful to me."
"Just the fact that he survived upsets Darwin's theory because the chances of him getting blown out and using valuable resources to try and mount a rescue should serve as a warning to all to get the training necessary and not go on a quest like Danny did."
"Although he admittedly was not a scholar of writing when in school, he nonetheless warrants receipt of a grade of B based on his ability to report accurately, entertain, and maintain the reader's interest."
"I am a kayaker and found Danny's youtube video about his trip from Canada to Alaska very interesting."
"His style is free flowing, as if you're sitting across from him with a cup of tea and some outstanding views out the window."
"Read in a day......quick reading."

Best Ontario Travel

Moon Ontario (Moon Handbooks)
Professional travel writer Carolyn B. Heller shares the best ways to experience all that Ontario has to offer, from scuba diving shipwrecks in the Great Lakes to dining on contemporary fare at Toronto's hottest restaurants. She recalls spending family holidays exploring the Thousand Islands, touring Canada's tomato capital, and cruising under the spray at Niagara Falls. After moving to Canada in 2003, Carolyn began scouting out Toronto's neighborhoods, taking in theater festivals at Stratford and Niagara-on-the-Lake, and discovering Ontario’s outdoors – from the rocky shores of Bruce Peninsula to the pink cliffs of Killarney and the lakes and trails in Algonquin Provincial Park.

"Then come the following sections: Toronto. The Niagara Region. Lake Erie to Lake Huron. Ottawa. Eastern Ontario. Georgian Bay and Cottage Country. The North. These are followed by Background, Essentials, Resources, an Index, and a List of Maps."
"We mainly used the portion for NW Ontario (north side of Lake Superior) which is covered in a somewhat modest fashion, BUT... we found that the motels, restaurants, sights that were recommended in the book were indeed consistently excellent."
"To the author's credit, Ontario is a huge geographic area, and not everything can be covered in detail, without making the book too long."
"Just completed a trip to northern Ontario and found this book to be very helpful."
"This is particularly good for planning trips in lower Ontario -- because there isn't much on North Eastern ontario at all...It does omit some important things (like the Stratford Ontario section is good at describing downtown, but omits some of the larger and more famous resort-type hotels and motels)..."
"Will be a good source for our trip to Canada."

Exploring Atlantic Canada: A 2-Week Travel Memoir of New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia
Montgomery's inspiration for Green Gables Confederation Bridge Cape Breton Ceilidhs Cabot Trail Fortress of Louisbourg Glenora Distillery Halifax Explosion memorial sites Final resting place of the Titanic victims and more. When I reached my thirties, I read a book that highlighted Cape Breton Island and the vibrant fiddle tradition. Music and history inspire most of her travels, and Marie loves going to see the Dropkick Murphys at different venues each year.Marie is usually found with her nose in a book or writing something down. She wrote her first book, Breaking the Chains of Silence , hoping to raise awareness of child sexual abuse in our communities and what we can do about it. Marie loves a great road trip, busker musicians in the subway, the sound of waves crashing on the shoreline, and pepperoni pizza with extra banana peppers on top.

"She offers resources for this specific area of her trip, even historical pointers like the explosion in Halifax in 1917 and the reason why Halifax gives Boston a christmas tree every year since, but she also lists resources and checklists for organizing solo travel. Her checklists impressed me the most. Have you thought of letting your credit card company know that you are going to travel in a certain area and during a certain time, so your credit card isn't suddenly blocked because the charges look fraudulent?"
"Marie curbed her concerns and drove from her Pennsylvania home to explore the beautiful Maritime provinces of Canada -- New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia."
"I have got to go back one day and see/experience the sights made mention in this great memoir including the heavily Scottish inspired island of Cape Breton, the iconic Flowerpot Rocks, the L. M. Montgomery homestead site (may want to stay in the very same Fairways Cottages, too) and the Fortress of Louisbourg (kicking myself for missing this the first go around as author brought this place to life for me)."
"I definitely recommend this book above any other if you are traveling to the east Coast."
"Many of these tips I've read about and heard already from my other preparation, but in every chapter there were always a few tips I hadn't heard of or even thought to consider which makes this book worth it alone."
