Sixteen-year-old Starr lives in two worlds: the poor neighbourhood where she was born and raised and her posh high school in the suburbs. ''As we continue to fight the battle against police brutality and systemic racism in America, THE HATE U GIVE serves as a much needed literary ramrod. --(Jason Reynolds, bestselling coauthor of ALL AMERICAN BOYS). ''Angie Thomas has written a stunning, brilliant, gut-wrenching novel that will be remembered as a classic of our time.''. ''Though Thomas's story is heartbreakingly topical, its greatest strength is in its authentic depiction of a teenage girl, her loving family, and her attempts to reconcile what she knows to be true about their lives with the way those lives are depicted -- and completely undervalued -- by society at large.''. ''Beautifully written in Starr's authentic first-person voice, this is a marvel of verisimilitude as it insightfully examines two worlds in collision. ''Pair this powerful debut with Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely's ALL AMERICAN BOYS to start a conversation on racism, police brutality, and the Black Lives Matter movement.''. Starr's struggles create a complex character, and Thomas boldly tackles topics like racism, gangs, police violence, and interracial dating. ''Thomas has penned a powerful, in-your-face novel that will similarly galvanize fans of Kekla Magoon's How It Went Down and Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely's All American Boys.''. ''The story of Starr Carter, a 16-year-old who sees her childhood best friend fatally shot by a police officer, is compelling, thought-provoking, and conversation-enabling.

I hated reading it, I cried my eyes out, Thomas did such an amazing job of making a horrible action into beautiful fiction that made you feel like you were right there. This was really refreshing to read because so many books, YA especially make parents out to be monsters that don't care, that aren't there for their kids. I mean it is like a troupe or something for these stories and it isn't actually the norm and gets annoying to read, so this book did an amazing job with the parents and family. All around though this story just floored me, it gave me a perspective I have never considered before, offered insights into a world I am not a part of, and I loved every minute of it."
"I'm more than a little ashamed to admit that I'm a privileged white woman in a tiny, primarily white community who has never really even given a ton of thought to the Black Lives Matter movement. I'm still a privileged white woman in a tiny, primarily white community, which means that I will never really be able to understand what the black community feels, but I'm trying, and I'm trying so much harder than I ever did before. There were plenty of moments in the book that made me chuckle a little that helped break up the heaviness of the book (especially when DeVante, Seven, and Starr start making fun of white people, because, let's be honest, everything they said was true), but the weight of the truth this book made me see hit me like a ton of bricks. Instead, I have been living inside my safe little bubble where I believed that ALL police officers are good and ALL police officers are just trying to do their jobs and racism is really not THAT bad in our country. I never allowed myself to see that SOME police officers are downright racist, and SOME police officers are scared of young, black men simply because they are young, black men, and people of color ARE treated differently, and ANY racism IS that bad. The blame was definitely there, but Starr also acknowledges that there are still a lot of good police officers who don't agree with the actions of their colleagues, and although she helped me to understand the sentiment behind rioting, she also acknowledges that the damage done by rioting is usually to her own community only. And underneath it all, Angie Thomas makes it clear that Starr's community had its own problems from within that were not the fault of the police at all."

The tale quickly morphs into a dystopian adventure with all of the action, danger and tension that this genre should hold. Charlotte is thrust into this world, coming from a upper-class family where she spent time cheerleading and at the mall before. Although the romance is extremely well balanced—tons of push and pull, and never clear cut—her own thoughts hang on the 'hot' guy all of the time. Summed up, this is the exciting beginning to a sure-to-be interesting series packed full of action, adventure, romance, imagination and tons of science fiction elements."
"For me this was a 5 star read without even being a fan of the Divergent series or The Hunger Games series."
"The guards were coming....part of the Institute, where a few ran the entire place. Charlotte wants to find her family, and Dash agrees to help her.....until they run into Ember. Charlotte believes she needs to rescue Ember, but she ha no idea..... All hell breaks loose as Charlotte and Dash make their way across balances and mountains."
"A wonderful start to a series, the book was action packed and fast paced with fantastical world building and well developed characters."
"It was a fun fast paced action adventure. It is a great read and I can't wait till the rest of the series comes out."
"Casually using fairy tales in a dystopian-like world, and also giving powers to people who have been exposed to a "mist", keep the novel fast-paced and interesting."

Find Best Price at Amazon"I initially bought this book off of others reviews & will admit I almost put it down. The main character, Thomas sort of got on my nerves as well in the beginning with all of his questioning but like I said, I stuck with it & I am so glad I did. The author does a great job of putting you in the middle of the action & developing his characters."
"Story consistent, good character development I did not get lost in the details the story haunting, I left the book for a while, remembered it and the story flowed like I never left, missing the characters already, like old friends, they went through so much during the tail to get to the conclusion I will definitely put this author in my top 10."
"At times it did seem to drag, prolonging pointless ventures and not going in-depth on the real issues and events that were happening. At the very end of the last book, Dashner does something different and very interesting by taking you back in time to how it all started. But just the same as the regular story line, he drops you at the end. There are so many other questions, but until Dashner can answer them, I will be left to peruse the internet for blogs and forums of other readers in hopes that they picked up on something I may have missed."
"A lot of people have also been saying that the book is very confusing and hard to understand but I believe different on this too. I think the author does a great job with the character Thomas."
"The Maze Runner has been recommended by tons of my friends, and I have been wanting to see the movie ever since I have heard about it. What has also interested me was the other book the author James Dasher wrote, which was the Eye of Minds. Thomas is just a 16 year old boy, who has been thrown into this huge place, and he has no idea what has happened to him. I think James Dasher is my new favorite author because of his amazing writing skills and his adventure filled books!"
"I read this book after I had read the Book 1 of the series. Wait until after reading all 3 book before you read the Prequel."

"It is the story of a bright, talented young woman who later left China, with its Communist principles, behind."

"Red Scarf Girl by Ji-li Jiang was the first book to make me cry. This book is like Harry Potter but real and not magic. Filled with worry, fear, confusion, and all sorts of miserable and negative things. This is the part in a normal book when I would come back to reality and remember that it's not real. Instead I remember that this was real and this girl who would other wise be brilliant, respected and loved is slowly becoming more and more depressed and lost. The brilliant girl who was at the beginning of the book respected by everyone is bow nothing but a black welp. Red Scarf girl is a true heart warming story that can make anybody's bad day a good one."
"Jiang Ji Li tells her story simply and without rancor as a child experiencing the pain and confusion of a horrendous era."

"Well written story that touched my heart."
"I would want to have this book read by adults, but the way certain scenes go makes it so I can't recommend this for teens. My main issue with the book was how graphic the rape and abuse scenes were. I ignored the warning because YA books tend to not get super graphic so they are something I can handle. The book itself progressed slowly, I felt like it took forever to get started so I was having issues, but then I suddenly understood. The author allowed me to get into Sidney's mind set and world."
"When that means Sidney strikes a boy who was bullying her brother at school, there are consequences. She now has to start group therapy with one of her school's popular girls, Adriana. Each of this things are important topics that affect many teens today. He pulled Sidney out of her shell and helped her see the light at the end of the tunnel."
"Only this pain can sharpen my focus, drown out the roar inside my own head.” (7%). This book is a powerful journey through the pain of a abused teenager’s story - her only coping mechanisms, cutting herself and lashing out at those around her. While the story itself is fiction, it's based on real events from Stone’s and her mother’s lives. The worst character I've ever encountered in a book may just be Sidney's mother Susan. It's probably the most real fiction I've read in a long time."

It’s not often we see LGBTQ+ characters have a safe place in books and this book definitely creates a safe place without sacrificing the struggles the people in this community goes through. Although it was DEFINITELY tipped towards the fluffy end of the scale, I felt the author did a good job balancing the description of the struggles the characters went through and creating that safe space. Even if they aren’t bisexual, there’s something that just about every LGBTQ+ scale can take away from this book."
"The writing flows naturally and the reader has a full idea of the teen universe and daily life."
"While this doesn't bother Lena, it does make her question her feelings toward Juliet and she realizes that she's bisexual and what she feels for Juliet is love and not the friendship kind of love. This is a very well written story and captures different feelings from both sides of the fence very accurately regarding this topic. This is a young adult book and captures the vibrant language and thought process of today's teens perfectly in my opinion."

This translated novel revolves around a normal teenager named Gemma who suddenly encountered a mysterious presence wherein apparently, she's the only who experienced this. After this Angel of Death, Evan, interfered a lot of times with Gemma, she felt connected with him, and is slowly falling in love with him. Actually, all the characters felt like my fictional group of friends, and it was fun hanging out with them while reading this. The characters, the story and the dialogue were greatly crafted with an interesting concept that is enough to pull me into their world where angels of death exist to take away lives, and it felt like they took my life for me to live there."
"I have to admit that I felt a little bad for Peter, but Evan is such an excellent book boyfriend that you fall in love with him right along side Gemma (so what is if he an an angel of death."
"I loved this book, Evan and Gemma are my new favorites in YA."
"I do love the paranormal and all the things that go bump in the night and this book has all that plus add in some savory bad, angst, twists and turns and young romance to keep you on your toes."
"Her life is pretty normal & somewhat boring until she meets this mysterious guy who intrigues her. She almost thinks her creative imagination is getting the best of her on account of reading too many books since no one else seems to see this mysterious boy but her."
"Once I got past the slow part it really came together and was very interesting and was a surprising thrill ride with adventure, romance, and mystery."
"Gemma is the awkward ,out of place girl who finds herself in a world she never thought could exsist. This book is filled with a rock solid world building."
