Anatomy of the Spirit also presents Dr. Myss's breakthrough model of the body's seven centers of spiritual and physical power, in which she synthesizes the ancient wisdom of three spiritual traditions-the Hindu chakras, the Christian sacraments, and the Kabbalah's Tree of Life-to demonstrate the seven stages through which everyone must pass in the search for higher consciousness and spiritual maturity. Fortunately, Myss is a skilled writer as well as researcher, able to ground her extensive spiritual and religious discussions by using real-life stories and a tight writing style. Those who are squeamish with the notion of biography affecting biology will find this book a struggle (in one chapter, Myss links pancreatic cancer with a man's refusal to unburden his life and start fulfilling his dreams). --Gail Hudson One of the hottest new voices in the alternative health/spirituality scene, Myss is a "medical intuitive" whose work with Dr. C. Norman Shealy resulted in their coauthored book, The Creation of Health.

In this fast-paced age, the often overwhelming realities of daily life may leave you feeling uncertain about how to realize your life’s true purpose—what spiritual teachers call dharma. Cope takes readers on a step-by-step tour of this revered tale, and in order to make it relevant to contemporary readers, he highlights well-known Western lives that embody its central principles—including such luminaries as Jane Goodall, whose life trajectory shows us the power of honoring The Gift; Walt Whitman, who listened for the call of the times; Susan B. Anthony, whose example demonstrates the power of focused energy; John Keats, who was able to let his desire give birth to aspiration; and Harriet Tubman, whose life was nothing if not a lesson in learning to walk by faith. If you’re feeling lost in your own life’s journey, The Great Work of Your Life may provide you with answers to the questions you most urgently need addressed—and may help you to find and to embrace your true calling. You’ll gain a better appreciation of divine guidance and perhaps even understand how you might better hear it in your own life.” — Yoga Journal “I am moved and inspired by this book, the clarity and beauty of the lives lived in it, and the timeless dharma it teaches.” —Jack Kornfield, author of A Path with Heart “A rich source of contemplation and inspiration [that] encourages readers . Praise for The Great Work of Your Life “Cope layers biographical teaching stories between the lessons offered by what might be the greatest teaching story of all: the Bhagavad Gita, in which Krishna teaches Arjuna about finding and manifesting your life's divine purpose, or dharma. Cope, while examining the life struggles faced by such visionaries as Jane Goodall, Harriet Tubman, and Mohandas Gandhi, encourages readers to reject the modern idea that 'we can be anyone we want to be' and instead to discover and fully pursue their inner self's calling….The historical portraits make interesting reading in their own right—Cope is a skilled storyteller—but in the service of illustrating a well-organized thesis about achieving true fulfillment, they offer a rich source of contemplation and inspiration.” — Publisher’s Weekly "The director of the Institute for Extraordinary Living at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health inquires into the dharma--vocation or calling--of a selection of both illustrious and ordinary individuals. With this masterwork of a book, Stephen Cope shows us once again that great yoga writing need not be esoteric, complicated, or full of Sanskrit to point the way to liberation.”— Yoga Journal. Keep a pen and paper handy as you read this remarkable book: It’s like an owner’s manual for the soul.”—Dani Shapiro, author of Devotion “I am moved and inspired by The Great Work of Your Life, the clarity and beauty of the lives lived in it, and the timeless dharma it teaches.”—Jack Kornfield, author of A Path with Heart “I was spellbound and inspired by this book from beginning to end. This is a great read and a great revitalizing breath of fresh air.”—Sylvia Boorstein, author of Happiness Is an Inside Job “Stephen Cope has taken great Western figures—poets, painters, freedom fighters, a composer—and shows how the dharma of fierce determination played through their lives and how it can inspire all of us today. It was a joy to read.”—Natalie Goldberg, author of Old Friend from Far Away “Consistently well-written and get-up-and-go inspirational, this book should go right to the top of your reading list… this valuable book should help you bring 'the great work of your own life' into sharper focus.” – Yoga International.

Now that my children are grown or gone (one died in a car accident) I understand that life is very short and I want to grow as a person before it's my time to go as well. Yet I still have an obligation to my husband and don't want him to feel like he has to bear the complete burden of maintaining our life just so I can "find myself". Cope's examples were people that always knew they wanted to be a poet or a writer or had a very strong drive to do something very specific."

The Gita opens, dramatically, on a battlefield, as the warrior Arjuna turns in anguish to his spiritual guide, Sri Krishna, for answers to the fundamental questions of life. Prince Arjuna faced a dilemma that many face sooner or later--whether to take action that is necessary yet morally ambiguous. The difference is that Arjuna's action was to wage war against his own family. Coupled with his thorough introduction, Easwaran's version comes off on all the levels it should: as a guide to action, devotional Scripture, a philosophical text, and inspirational reading.

"When my daughter suggested we share a reading of the Gita a few years ago, I recalled slogging through this classic as required reading for a philosophy of religion class in college and hoped that this time I might get more out of it."
"Having never learned Sanskrit, I can't very well rate the translation, but I can only say that in reading the Bhagavad Gita, I learned a lot about Hindu religion, and I found much of it thrilling."
"Very informative."
"A classic everyone must read."
"This book as well as the Bhagavad Gita, The Upanishads and the Dhammapada, all by Eknath Easwaran offer excellent insights into the issues we all face throughout life and new ways to understand the challenges we all face from childhood to adulthood."

Find Best Price at Amazon"I freely admit that, in general, I am not a "new-agey" person and I have spent the biggest part of my adult life looking upon the various disciplines therein as little more than nonsense and "hooey". I began to read but, before my arrogant pessimism could fully kick in, the author made a bold claim right out of the starting gate: “Anyone with vision out of both eyes can begin seeing the radiating energy aura surrounding every person, usually within just 5-10 minutes of training…”. Okay, I thought. I eagerly flipped ahead to Chapter 10, "Retraining Your Eye Rods and Cones” to Exercise 7 which asked me to begin by focusing on a pencil. My mind ferried between the shock of "seeing" an aura for the first time, and the disgust of being keenly aware of the actions of a canine tongue that frequently licked my face."
"Ever since I was younger, I had always been curious about auras and the certain energies that people seem to give off. I found the color part very intriguing as it explained the meanings of colors you may see as well as the different stages of auras."
"This is an excellent book for people interested in really understanding auras and how they "work". It was awesome to have that nice storyline feeling to it going on in the background :). Overall it was a totally awesome book, for beginners or people really wanting to learn this or for those looking for an interesting way to spend the afternoon."
