Reviews
""First 100 Words" by Roger Priddy was bought as a gift for my sons’s first birthday and it is the perfect book for a one year old. It is quite a basic book and the sort of board book most children will have at some stage in their life. This version of the book is pretty small (it's 5 x 6 inches; an over-sized ABC/colors version can be found here), and it can withstand rough little hands as it is a board book."

"Extremely well made little fat word book for my handsome new step-grand-baby."
"Gift for my great grandson's first Christmas."

My First Book of Japanese Words: An ABC Rhyming Book
My First Book of Japanese Words is a beautifully illustrated book that introduces young children to Japanese language and culture through everyday words. "Join Kenji and his friends as they introduce us to words such as Futon, onigiri (a yummy rice ball treat) and sensei." "Such a sweet book that introduces a kid-friendly Japanese word for every letter of the alphabet, in rhyming prose. "I've always had an interest in learning about people and cultures, so I've collected an assortment of "My First Word" books in a variety of languages. At first glance, the choice of going through the English alphabet to present words in Japanese seems odd, but really it's brilliant. An A–Z book of Japanese words with hiragana and/or katakana, the Kanji and a short little rhyme in English. Michelle Haney Brown thrives on awakening preschool through adult students to the wonders of Japan's language and culture.

Writing Magic: Creating Stories That Fly
She shows how you can get terrific ideas for stories, invent great beginnings and endings, write sparkling dialogue, develop memorable characters—and much, much more. Sections titled "Liftoff," "Heart and Guts," "Plowing Through," "Digging Deeper," and "Writing Forever" address such topics as coming up with story ideas, developing characters and plot, and finding opportunities for publication. Among the topics she covers are shaping characters, beginnings and endings, revising, and finding ideas. But the best part of Levine's book is her honesty as she shares with children the truth that there are no perfect books, that rejection can be as useful as success, and that you thank the creative part of you by using the ideas that it sends.

My daughter has also read a few books for this author (Ella Enchanted,The Wish (rack),The Fairy's Mistake (Princess Tales)) so it made a lot of sense when she described the characters and setting in this wonderful book; but you would not necessarily need such a background."
