Reviews
"The background for the pack was enough to understand how the alpha holds the pack together but the beta is the heart. This one doesn't quite slot into m/m romance because the story ends just as their relationship begins. A theme in this story is that older alphas go psycho and how both Lyall and Biffy have known a few, had to join up to kill one, yes, it is well known that old alphas go nuts. So with that said when Lyall mentioned the bonding to his alpha and that Biffy is now grounded enough .. . I could've read less about the alpha wolf preacher psycho and more about Lyall and Biffy's budding relationship and pack dynamics."
"You can read this novella if you haven't read any of the Parasol books, however, you won't get most of the jokes, you'll have very little idea what's going on, and the bit about the Wicker Chicken will fly over your head. I'm hoping that there will be a bit more fleshing out of Lyall's time away from pack with the 3rd Custard Protocol book that will fill in some of the holes and emotional aspect."
"For those who care: the romance is more hints and barest description (not a typical bodice ripper in that respect either, if you catch my drift); the violence/fighting is treated similarly."
"I would have loved a longer book with a stronger plot, but this is still the fun read that I expected and it's great to finally know what happens to one of my favourite romantic couples."
"I enjoy the way Ms Carriger writes more than anyone else, because she doesn't hold back and try for something 'middle of the road' to garner more readers."
"I've waited a long time to see if these two would reconcile and reunite, especially with the changes she's worked on her universe in the Custard Protocol books."
"This was the incredibly sweet reunion of two Parasol Protectorate characters that I desperately wanted a happy ending for."
"I particularly like how the timelines intersect, so we get little bits of both past and future history of favorite characters in each story."

This beautifully designed eBook contains dozens of immersive elements including puzzle-filled illustrations, hidden links to new music, additional writings and character backgrounds, atmospheric audio tracks to read along with, secret ways to get in contact with the Asylum's characters yourself, and, if you're clever enough to find the key, exclusive access to never-before-heard songs from the upcoming The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls: The Musical . Such is the stark confession launching the harrowing scene that begins The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls as Emilie, a young musician on the verge of a bright career, attempts suicide by overdosing on the antipsychotics prescribed to treat her bipolar disorder. But when Emilie opens her notebook to find a desperate letter from a young woman imprisoned within an insane asylum in Victorian England, and, stranger still, bearing her own name and description , a portal to another world is blasted wide open. Please visit the Emilie Autumn author page to find blank journals, coloring books, yearly planners, music manuscript composition books, short stories, novels, and more! The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls is lots of fun, a kind of "women in prison" movie with an (Oliver) Twist. It's cleverly structured, bouncing effortlessly between the Victorian and modern eras, and comes complete with scary, perilous situations, vivid characters--plucky heroines, evil villains, and intelligent, talking rats--to an ultimately thoughtful, poignant ending. "This is a highly stylized adventure through a tale of a twisted mind or two told with heart and beautiful vocabulary. "Dreamy prose of a nightmare situation as two women reflect across time about their mutual incarceration and mental illnesses." Whether you are familiar with the hard-cover and audiobook versions or entirely new to the Asylum, this ebook has something very special in the form of clues, a treasure hunt, and embedded audio clips protected by puzzling passwords." The community she (Emilie Autumn) has built through her music and storytelling is one of overwhelming love and acceptance." Dearest Reader, I have made it my life's mission to prove by example that even the ugliest of experiences can be transformed into things of extraordinary beauty...and even magic.
