Find Best Price at Amazon"My method of study i chose to read this textbook cover to cover, taking all practice tests at the end of each chapter, along with the included practice exams on the disc. In addition to this text i went further to find online practice exams and Professor Messer videos on Youtube as free self studying material. The book covered the objectives and even went beyond which is why this makes a great on-the-job reference."
"Most importantly, I was looking for a book that could not only keep me engaged yet also provide the necessary educational materials. Presently I'm over a hundred or so pages in (the book is Bible thick) and have purposely slowed myself down at times to ensure lesson absorption but honestly could read this book like it was a spellbinding work of fanciful fiction. It really helps to have an actual, honest interest in the subject matter and there are times where you'll want access to several different operating systems."
"the author does not drift off to complicated things when starting to learn the basics."
"While this was required material for my IT class, the writing is easy to follow and the information is clear."
"Pros: Packed with so much knowledge that I think Mike Meyers may be Thoth."
"Very informative, most chapters are easy enough to read, a little too heavy on the jokes some times, but I suppose I'd rather that than it being dry."
"It is packed with everything I need to know for passing the CompTIA A+ exam, and as a matter fact I almost gave it four stars because it is so packed it is too heavy to hold up when I’m laying down reading it!"
"Great book when it comes to questions in each."

While many books explain the how of bitcoin, The Internet of Money delves into the why of bitcoin. With The Internet of Money, he's matchedthat feat by compiling his talks into one of the best books on Bitcoinfor a broad audience. That required people to grasp not only how thisunorthodox technology worked but also its profound promise for society. No one has done more than Andreas Antonopoulos to get them over thathurdle. As an engaging public speaker, teacher and writer, Andreas makes complex subjects accessible and easy to understand.

In this collection of essays and articles, key members of Google’s Site Reliability Team explain how and why their commitment to the entire lifecycle has enabled the company to successfully build, deploy, monitor, and maintain some of the largest software systems in the world. Based in San Francisco, he has previously been responsible for the care and feeding of Google’s advertising statistics, data warehousing, and customer support systems. In other lives, Chris has worked in academic IT, analyzed data for political campaigns, and engaged in some light BSD kernel hacking, picking up degrees in Computer Engineering, Economics, and Technology Policy along the way. He is currently cowriting a history of the Internet in Ireland, and is the holder of degrees in Computer Science, Mathematics, and Poetry Studies, which is surely some kind of mistake.

"The establishment of SRE as a discipline is ascribed to Google, and many organizations are trying to hire SREs and establish SRE teams, even though the definition of what what a Site Reliability Engineer does varies by team. Google is a successful company and has solved some challenging problems, and we can learn a lot from the Google practices."
"Fantastic book."
"Actually I would give 4.5 stars (not 5) because it is not a book in common sense."
"Given those facts alone, it almost goes without saying that this book is worth a read by internet company engineers and anyone else interested in running web infrastructure at massive scale. The authors, Raymond Blum and Rhandeev Singh, posit a number of tenets and concepts that match my own views, but that I have never seen in print and haven't been able to express as well myself. I really only found them useful when offered a way to map them to popular industry solutions: Borg =~ Kubernetes, BorgMon =~ Prometheus, Chubby =~ ZooKeeper, etc. I had already noted the similarities in Google's postmortems and casualty drills, and some differences as well (rest assured there is no concept of an "error budget" on a nuclear submarine). It feels like the editors, handed essays by elite engineers with widely varying writing abilities, chose to conform to the median style rather than to the best. There are best-selling authors that friends and family adore, but that I find utterly unreadable solely due to sentence structure (for example, Dan Brown)."
"The book meanders a lot."
"I must read for devops engineers."
"Unless you are working with 100+ web engineers, my guess is that most of this book does not apply to your situation."

Find Best Price at Amazon"readable encyclopedia of best practices on software quality, covering topics such as how to build classes, use data and control structures, debug, refactor, and code-tune. Yes, it would be nice if the book was updated to include substantive material on languages like Ruby or Python (cf. p. 65, Python "also contains some support for creating larger programs") but, in the words of Gertrude Stein, "Not everything can be about everything" -- though Code Complete does come pretty close. McConnell also sprinkles the text with classic words of wisdom, e.g. "The competent programmer is fully aware of the strictly limited size of his own skull" (Edsger Dijkstra), "Never debug standing up" (Gerald Weinberg), "Copy and paste is a design error" (David Parnas), "Any fool can defend his or her mistakes -- and most fools do." It is important to point out that even though this volume is encyclopedia-like, it does have both a sense of humor (e.g. "the encryption algorithm is so convoluted that it seems like it's been used on itself") and a clear authorial voice (e.g. "Though sometimes tempting, that's dumb."). 33, after quoting Edward Yourdon at length, McConnell adds "This lusty tribute to programming machismo is pure B.S. I found this to be bizarre, given that in the 1995 edition of "The Mythical Man-Month" Brooks states in no uncertain terms that he has changed his mind on this: "This I now perceive to be wrong" (p. 265). On a different note, although some of the on-line accompanying material is fascinating (e.g. the links to the original Dijkstra and Lawrence articles in ch."
"Very readable, excellent real-world examples and case studies, and many valuable insights."
"I'm a self taught programmer going on 5 years now doing it full time, and I have learned a lot of techniques that have filled in some holes in my skills."
"The Microsoft code way."
"Bad humor, takes a long time to convey information, but is useful."
"I'd also recommend the more recent Clean Code, especially for Java programmers, as it goes into more depth, even providing actual case studies in which code is dramatically cleaned up."
"I make all of my new programmers at least read selections from it (in fact that is part of our training program.)."
"Great book on software development."
