" You can feel their pain, frustration, love, their struggles, and I think this is why I'm so captivated by Bella Forrest's books." "This whole world you've created just keeps capturing me and drawing me in for more, much like a vampire on the hunt for fresh, warm blood." "The Shade is dark and terrifying, yet beautiful and intriguing, a place that I just can't stop thinking about ."

"I'm currently obsessed with this series and found out yesterday there's at least 56 books (a certain amount of books are for each story with a photo attached to show the number of books per story) and I'm on book 3 and I've ordered 4 and 5."
"Sofia's last words to Derek was "Please don't hurt them"...Sofia returns to The Shade now knowing how to get there because Dereks Twin sister gave Sofia some of her memories, which led her right back to Derek..Viv got caught and Derek and all of The Shade had a very touching Death Ceremony for her...jumping ahead of myself lol...Sofia walks in on Derek as he is tearing the throat out of one of her friends, and talking off his clothes to have his way with her..She is very angry and conflicted where he is concerned...I know Derek's brother Lucas is a bad ass but I feel for the guy, because he thinks he should be ruling The Shade and not his brother..Lucas has tasted Sofia's blood and tried to rape her...That being said he cannot get her out of his mind and has left The Shade in fear for his life, because he know's Derek will kill anyone who hurts Sofia...I cannot say enough about this series but I REALLY DO NEED THE REST OF THE SERIES LIKE THIS YEAR!!!!!!"
"2 character bombs were dropped in this book sure to make huge explosions in book 3."
"I also didnt like how things were between Sofia and Ben once they returned to their "normal" lives. Ben didnt deserve Sofia and reading his POV made me dislike him even more. He was selfish and bitter and I almost wish some of his parts could have been omitted but that wouldnt have made such a great story. Sofia was fiesty and didnt take crap from Derek even when he had his fangs out. It is not your typical "lovey dovey" vampire story, its so much more."
"I enjoyed this book from beginning to end!"
"Bella Forrest was very kind to provide me with a free copy of the book for an exchange of an honest review on Goodreads. I fell in love with the characters and I was soooooo disappointed when the book REALLLLY started getting super good--it ended."

A Shade of Vampire (New & Lengthened 2015 Edition)

Note: Derek Novak and Sofia Claremont's story is only a 7 book series. It completes in Book 7: A Break of Day, and the characters embark on entirely new adventures from Book 8: A Shade of Novak. Reviews
"For some reason this story ended much to quickly for me."
"Such a fantastic book."
"Short story but now I want to know more about what is in store for Derek and Sofia."
"I don't like boy meets girl and they live happy ever after."
"Love love loved it."
"This really wasn't my cup of tea."
"I'm reading the second one now, so it wasn't too bad 😑. I'm a big nerd when it comes to reading and read just about anything I can ey my hands in, but I especially love teen books so I'll keep reading these until they really suck or until the series ends."
"Sofia is just as boring, bland and two-dimensional as Bella Swan, and Derek is a Cullen clone. A few girls are taken with Sofia to be part of Derek's harem, and Sofia shows some concern for them, but they are just there to make Sofia look caring in Derek's eyes and serve no other purpose to the story. While standing before Derek, all scared, Sofia takes one of the other girls hands to comfort her and that for some unknown reason is some great symbol of Sofia's compassion and humanity. There is even an almost exact scene from twilight where Edward plays the piano for Bella in this book where Derek plays the piano for Sofia because apparently an interest in classical music is supposed to make him seem cultured and noble. Sofia and Derek are bland characters with no personality traits besides their one defining trait. Derek is brooding and hates being a vampire and wants to hang on to his humanity, and Sofia is the symbol of that humanity. We're supposed to hate Derek's brother because he objectifies Sofia and leers at her and makes it known he wants to do naughty things to her then suck her dry—yet Derek goes off and feeds on people and Sofia doesn't bat an eye, in fact she COMFORTS him after he gets upset about it the first time (doesn't stop him from doing it again). Sofia's tale, like Bella's, starts with showing us that Sofia is a special snowflake with a "debilitating weakness" that is masked as a strength because she survives despite it. We're led around by the hand and told Sofia is this, Derek is this, and because of that they are some Romeo + Juliet couple, when in truth they have zero depth, zero personality, and the story is bland, boring, predictable and simply awful."

A Shade of Vampire 3: A Castle of Sand
Note: Derek Novak and Sofia Claremont's story is only a 7 book series . It completes in Book 7: A Break of Day , and the characters embark on entirely new adventures. from Book 8: A Shade of Novak . "This series is very well written and completely engrossing , once you start you can't stop!" "I read a lot of Vampire stories, but they come nowhere close to the series written by this author. ". " Be careful - these books will suck you right in and before you know it you're making excuses as to why you can't leave the house and are huddled in a room frantically flipping pages, eager to know what happens next." "The characters, the settings, the plot, all put together to make an incredible story ."
Reviews
"‘She lit up the darkness surrounding The Shade, and for a kingdom that had no morning, only eternal night, her light was life.’. This was my favorite book in the series yet! Even with all of Derek’s responsibilities his father is throwing at him they manage to reserve time for each other to sneak away and just be teenagers, it was so sweet seeing them be so happy and carefree. It just seems that everything is stacked against them and I really was drawn into the whole star crossed lovers thing, their relationship is so well written that it just sucks you right in and you totally root for them. Of course, for all the advancements that were made, I am fearful that the events towards the end of the book put all of that into jeopardy again but I guess time will tell as the series goes on!"
"She has come face to face with both of her parents (#abandonmentissues) and Derek is once again filled with the desire to leave her."
"I wasn't a huge fan of this installment."
"Sofia compares her relationship with Derek to castles of sand and to enjoy what you have before the sea washes away."
"But the downside to me was there was always some plot or something going on that when reading it made it hard to put it down (which shows the good writing), but there wasn't really a 'great stopping point' that actually made me want to take a break so I ended up taking a long break from the book midway through it just b/c I wasn't ready to get sucked back into that chaotic world."
"Over all I really enjoyed the book."
"This book would appeal to teenagers who are looking for good romance with action and drama."
"It's nice to read a book that I can recommend to my daughter to read or her friends."

The Hangman's Daughter: [Kindle in Motion] (A Hangman's Daughter Tale Book 1)
Germany, 1660: When a dying boy is pulled from the river with a mark crudely tattooed on his shoulder, hangman Jakob Kuisl is called upon to investigate whether witchcraft is at. play in his small Bavarian town. Amazon Exclusive: A Q&A with Author Oliver PötzschQuestion: What initially inspired you to write this story? But I also look up to many authors of the fantasy genre such as Tolkien, Terry Pratchett, and the almost forgotten Fritz Leiber. In his life he built an enormous archive of information about my ancestors and the hangman profession, and I have been allowed free use of this resource. Also, during my career as a journalist I made several radio programs on this topic, talking to herb women and guardians of cultural heritage and searching in many archives of Bavarian cities for my ancestors. Oliver Pötzsch: After the thriller about Ludwig II, I am writing the fourth novel in the Hangman series. "A brilliantly-researched and exciting story of a formative era of history when witches were hunted and the inquisitors had little belief in their methods beyond their effect in pacifying superstitious townspeople . Pötzsch, actually descended from a line of hangmen, delivers a fantastically fast-paced read, rife with details on the social and power structures in the town as well as dichotomy between university medicine and the traditional remedies, which are skillfully communicated through character interactions, particularly that of Magdalena and Simon. The shocking motivations from unlikely players provide for a twist that will leave readers admiring this complex tale from a talented new voice."
Reviews
"I liked the start of this story, the basic idea of the tale, a hangman searching for the truth. The title of this story suggests this daughter has a major role, but quite frankly she doesn't. In fact, the hangman's daughter is such a minor character, she could be removed completely from the story and the novel would be virtually the same. She has a scene towards the end of the book where she's captured as a hostage, but it's so forced and unnecessary, it's more like a "women in refrigerators" moment. In the meantime, if you're a minor character living in this historical world, it seems like your only purpose is to be to chased, tortured, threatened with rape, or face being burnt alive as a witch. Yes, the hangman's daughter manages to escape, but the scene adds nothing to the novel. The second woman, the hangman's daughter, captured and threatened, was an unnecessary cliché. Instead of tying up loose ends, there's more drama, then everything is miraculously solved behind the scenes. The female characters could be replaced with potted plants, so I can't see myself recommending it to any of the women in my life."
"People assume witches were involved except Jacob who does not believe in witches and is determined to discover the truth and uncover the murder."
"I stayed up several night's reading this exciting mystery set in Bavaria of the 1600s."
"Good book."
"Once the action started and the mystery began to unravel I couldn't put the book down!"
"It also gave me hope that I could learn more of his genealogy through his family that still lives in this small town."
"OK, the romance developing with the hangman's daughter and the radical young physician is a bit overly romantic and strains disbelief at times, but they're great characters and you enjoy their unlikely adventures."
"A story of sixteenth century German history of town living and witchcraft with mystery and romance thrown in to keep it interesting."

"Back on the beach at Cancun, the same place they were both taken from months ago, Sofia and Ben aren't ready to go home yet. They say nothing about where Ben got the scars all over his body from his torture at the hands of Claudia, and at Sofia's request, there's no mention of the vampires or The Shade. But it was also nice to see the effect that Sofia had on him when she returned, to find him in a compromising position with Ashley. Sofia has learned a lot about how things are run in the Shade and has read it's history, and it doesn't sit well with her. I'm also looking forward to learning more about the prophecy made by Cora, the witch, over four hundred years ago, and what it means to Derek and Sofia, and to the Shade."

"Read the 1st one in one night, bought the 2nd one the second night and finished it by the end of the weekend too. All in all, I like this series alot and may just end up "loving" it by the time I read more!"
"Good read, has some surprises and a few twists."
"Sofia is faced by a choice, whether to choose love and life with Derek in his world or choose freedom in hers…. My heart broke for Derek when Sofia chose a life in the human world and left Derek. It was the only way for her to realize how much she really needs him to be happy. But I still wish she hadn’t gone – to a reader the separation of the main characters seems like such a waste of words – ALL you concentrate on is waiting for the couple to get back together…. Bella Forrest was able to make to wait interesting though. Who did he have to fight for to be a better person once the person he wanted to be better for was gone?"
"First her dad who abandoned her is head of the hunters to kill vamps and her mom is the maslens whatever she is."
"I liked that the first book was written from the point of view of multiple characters throughout so the reader could get a better grasp on what was going on in the story."
"I'm still interested in the series and will most likely read the rest because I did enjoy the story as a whole."
"I love the characters in this series."
"This one is a whole lot of whining between all characters, which can make it seem like you are reading about some immature children."

Reviews
"I found Bree and her sister Ana very interesting characters in Nix, Cass and Del's series, and was thrilled when LH gave them their own series!"
"***4.5 Stars***. I must admit that I while I was excited to dive back into the Dragon’s Gift world, I was also a little hesitant because as much as I enjoyed Cass, Nix and Del’s as a whole, I had my fair share of ups and downs with each and really hoped that I’d start out on the right foot with this one and I’m happy to say I had nothing to worry about! Bree and Ana’s stories (though Bree is the main focus right now) started out with a bang and though there were a few slow parts (a total it’s not you, it’s me thing) I had a great time meeting and learning about this new group of characters and this new. I really liked Bree and Ana from the first time I met them in Nix’s journey and learning about what they’d been through as children and all that they’ve been doing since made me like them even more."
"Throwing random fantasy characters in wherever you feel like it doesn't strengthen the already weak attempt at plot development."
"As usual the author transports her readers around the world with castles and canals amongst the places we visit. I know that Bree and Ana are technically known as Unknowns throughout his first book but observent readers will notice a huge clue although for this reader it was the introduction of Djinn in this story that had me jumping up and down because I'm so hoping the author will return to them ."
"I must agree with another reviewer who characterized the writing as juvenile."
