"I think there was a movie made like this in the eighties, but they wound up committing suicide."
"Having been a D&D player years ago, I was thoroughly caught up in the details of the game."
"Second is that the characters never really embrace their own sense of peril, you'd think they'd take their situation a little more seriously. This isn't about the trouble with being teleported to a world of actual swords and sorcery, rather the trouble of being teleported to a word were "game balance" is paramount."

Empire Burning (Emerilia Book 11)

"Especially during the space battles."
"Somehow with this crazy (but entertaining) start the author creates a world in which some weird little gnome tells Dave he is on some really intense drugs, a dark lords plan is stopped, Dave becomes an alright smith, three new races are ressurected, oh also one of those races was ressurected by Daves new book club friends.... only took a couple minutes really...... anyway, than the dark lord gets a tempertamtrum and is like "no you can't have my old toys" so he sends 2 million of his new toys to kill the other toys, and while all this is happening two weird fire doggos come to help, anyyyyyway, while that tiny scuffle goes the other children are like wooooow how did he do that, but they think there toys are better anyway so they don't care, as we get further in more people learn that all this is just like some prison thing... and like these weird frog guys are using them for entertainment.... it's a small thing anyway the important part is when they realease all these reaaaally bad monsters on emerilla and everyone is like that not nice, so they create the floating playhouses to fight back, but while this is going on the children were like " I own this playground" but like 3 of them were saying it so they starting throwing spitballs at each other, but a few hit the the older kids in the playhouse so they put the smack down on there asses...... anyway, by this point the frog things notice Dave isn't playing by the rules so they try to stop him, which leads to Dave bringing out his hidden toys.... star ships with basically nukes on them."
"I loved this series for the first seven or eight books but the once fun battles became awkwardly worded and the author seemed to get carried away with the descriptions of everything and anything for the last few."
"Characters are numerous and diverse and yet Michael weaves a spell that gives you a strong connection to them all. Adventures abound, battles of epic scale fill the pages, but in the end it is all about freedom, family, friendships and strength of character."
"While the earlier books in the series did a good job of following the characters and emotions of building a society and fighting against what the empire had done, that's mostly lost by this point. One positive note: the series does manage to continue to consider the engineering problems the characters face and to try and capture the engineering process."

"It feels like the author is just mass producing books to make money off an emerging genre."
"The author kept the story moving at a good pace as the MC tried to adapt to the new place and his outsized role in it as the owner of the special sword."
"Massive parts of the book are superfluous and unrelated to the rest of the book. At the exact halfway mark of the book, the author tells the reader the ending."
"Come on learn from your mistakes, he makes a promise then does a stupid action the next instant that leads to his promise being worth squat."
"The main character gets a magic sword that grants him LitRPG powers with stat charts for things, but lots of it are left unexplained for no reason. The whole basis for the entire plot is that he can modify things, it's the only part of the main character that's interesting (he's an awkward sword-collecting dork), his increasing mastery of it is supposed to be how he solves his problems, and yet at one point a whole section of him modifying and empowering his followers is just summarized as 'he spent their experience.'. At first, I thought it was going to be an adventure story, he goes to hell and wanders around seeing strange things and growing his powers."
"Plus the main protagonist doesn't do anything except upgrades skills and states of other characters."
"This story needs major editing and rewrite."

Succubus!: Hell High
Sherman had always thought high school was a real drag.
Reviews
"I read the premise of Hell High and thought it sounded like dark comedy with lots of potential. That doesn't matter much, because a nerdy, anime and comics addicted kid like him, who is literally ignored and overlooked by everyone, even his parents, has no chance to get Charlotte, the girl of his dreams. After Charlotte confronts and kills the devil, all hell breaks loose, somewhat literally, as some of his fellow supernaturals of his faction discover his body and give chase. As every supernatural lays exposed in true form, fights to the death suddenly burst out all throughout the school! Dodging flying body parts, fireballs and talons, Charlotte and Sherman have to also avoid the faculty, who happen to be huge armed devils. Sherman comes across as a real person, and his musing to himself about Charlotte, comics, manga and other pop culture make for some hilarious scenes. Going back and forth from teen girl and big bad succubus assassin, its hilarious watching her try to deal with Sherman's mooning over her, especially since she, like everyone else, can't remember his right name."
"Despite the fact this book is written for Young Adults I still thoroughly enjoyed this book."
"I really enjoyed reading about sherman, a high school nerd like i was, in a school where vampires, demons, and other things that go bump in the night coexist."
"I enjoyed reading this book."
"Some scenes are gory, so maybe don't read it if you're sensitive to that kind of stuff."
"Book really gets you interested but is quite short hopefully next one Wil be longer."
"Interesting read and entertaining."

The Vale of Three Wolves: A LitRPG Adventure (Elements of Wrath Online Book 2)
When Max and Kayla embark on an epic questline few have ever completed, they'll find themselves trapped face to face with the primordial forces of darkness.
Reviews
"The in-game storyline is about two people on a quest to unlock the power of the rings of promise they got in game. The real life story develops great background for the main character and creates empathy for him."
"Overall, the story picks up and develops every character from the first minus one and continues without missing a beat in a logical way. Despite being almost 400 pages, I blew through it in the span of five and a half hours and at first thought that it was a short story to tide me over until Crystalfire Keep in what I assume will be the fall."
"Kayla and Max continue their quest for the Rings of Promise alone with o my each other to depend on. During the quest they find that they will lose their avatars if the lose."
"The AI filter in the game protects the gamers from identity theft, but it also prevents them from forming more meaningful relationships. Luckily there's a rare quest for the Ring of Promise, an artifact that allows two players to reveal more about themselves to each other, if they can pass through the trials. The fact that Max is fighting in game to earn money to help with medical expenses makes his struggle more important than just leveling up."
"The Vale of Three Wolves: Elements of Wrath Online, Book 2. Written by: J.A. Cipriano, J.B. Garner. Narrated by: Joe Hempel. This is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary."
"I received a free copy and I honestly enjoyed the story as it was well written in the LitRPG style and the light romance interesting."
"The characters grow in knowledge and love as they complete each smaller quest until they have the fortitude and understanding to attempt the final challenge in this adventure."

"If you're a Harry Potter fan this just adds to the wonder!"
"Wonderful!"
"As such, I owned all of these books from the day of their original releases, and remember them well. Many people reading this review (and indeed, there are even pictures posted from previous releases showing it) may remember that the original release was presented as a copy of the textbook as owned by Harry Potter. As such, it contained a lot of doodles and "handwritten" notes from Harry and his friends throughout the book, integrating a lot of humor and personality into the textbook content about the various creatures."

Having bought and read his Professional tournament series (I own all 3 of those books both in physical and digital form) I knew that Jonathan Little is a "little" expert in producing great books with solid content, that can teach you well about the game and elevate your poker play."
"The books are not meaty.....and lack depth, but they more then make up for that with original thinking and out of the box concepts. As an intermediate player I have found his books very interesting because they challenge my tight aggressive stance.....with a very clear explanation of the benefits of playing loose aggressive."
"If you are an advanced player who understands or is currently beating lower buy-in live tournaments this book is not for you. I kept thinking to myself, "I hope my opponents I play in low boy-in tournaments don't get this book.""
"It`s not like magic happened and I will now crush the games, but at least I`m now aware of how I should leave my "comfort zone" and adjust my game when playing against 5 different types of players I meet at low stakes tournaments: 1) Too loose too passive. 2) Too loose too aggresive. 3) Too tight too passive. 4) Too tight too aggresive. 5) Optimal players, who are in a process of moving up in stakes. I even realized that actually I`m in one of the first 4 groups and that`s why I`m still in low stakes games... I`ve used gained knowledge (and making 5$ cost payed off very quickly) against a guy from group 5 during very next local league tournament, when I checked-raised his cbet from UTG (I was defending BB) because I had backdoor flush draw on K with my KTo and flop (7s6sx) was good for my range and not for my opponent."

Here Is Real Magic: A Magician's Search for Wonder in the Modern World
It tells the story of his rediscovery of astonishment--and the importance of wonder in everyday life--during his trip to the slums of India, where he infiltrated a three-thousand-year-old clan of street magicians. Nate Staniforth, magician and former host of the Discovery Channel's TV show Breaking Magic, takes us along his journey from wide-eyed kid trying to convey his sense of wonder to the adults around him, to young magician trying to get a break in LA, to the demands and drudgery of constant touring, to finally feeling that he’s lost the sense of awe that originally set him on his course. What results is a thoughtful, often moving memoir about a man who truly understands (and loves and respects) his craft, even more so for the struggles he has had with it. —Chris Schluep, Amazon Book Review "A personal story that conjures up the wonder and magic of life without any trickery or deceit." "A vivid, deeply compelling, startlingly personal account of life on the far side of the illusion." - Chris Guillebeau, New York Times bestselling author of SIDE HUSTLE and THE HAPPINESS OF PURSUIT. "A real gem; a great read that belongs on the shelf of creative inspiration right next to Art & Fear . As irresistible as his quest for magic is, it's Staniforth's urgent feeling for the craft, and the meaning behind it, that should make all artists―writers, actors, musicians, everyone―take note.
Reviews
"He expertly, perfectly conveys what life is like for a touring magician, and I think most people can absolutely relate to his subsequent burnout and quest to recapture his own wonder."
"The second part is about how to disappear, Kolkata, the train to Varanasi, the snake charmer, Godmen, choomantar, go North, now we put the river to sleep, the poet, the street magicians of Shadipur depot, the train to Jodhpur, and here is real magic. In conclusion, this is a well-written and interesting story for anyone who is fascinated by magicians and the real magic all around us."
"He is insightful and gives deep thought to the place of awe and wonder and magic tricks. Since there isn’t a “look inside” feature available for this book at the time I’m writing this review, here’s the table of contents (to give you a better idea of what if covers): Part One. 1: Alchemy. 2: How to Be a Starving Artist. 3: Tour. 4: How to Light Yourself on Fire. 5: The Break. Part Two. 6: How to Disappear. 7: Kolkata. 8: The Train to Varanasi. 9: The Snake Charmer. 10: Godmen. 11: Choomantar. 12: Go North. 13: Now We Put the River to Sleep. 14: The Poet. 15: The Street Magicians of Shadipur Depot. 16: The Train to Jodhpur. 17: Here Is Real Magic. To be clear about the magic this book is and is not about, here’s a quote from the book, “I had learned by this point that some people do not like magic. For many, the word brings to mind laser beams, smoke machines, and tight leather pants. It conjures images of Las Vegas showmen, of style without substance, of overblown, underwhelming spectacle heavy on cliché and light on actual ideas.” This is not the type of magic that this book is about."

The Art of Learning: A Journey in the Pursuit of Excellence
A public figure since winning his first National Chess Championship at the age of nine, Waitzkin was catapulted into a media whirlwind as a teenager when his father’s book Searching for Bobby Fischer was made into a major motion picture. Rather than focusing on climactic wins, Waitzkin reveals the inner workings of his everyday method, from systematically triggering intuitive breakthroughs, to honing techniques into states of remarkable potency, to mastering the art of performance psychology. In stories ranging from his early years taking on chess hustlers as a seven year old in New York City’s Washington Square Park, to dealing with the pressures of having a film made about his life, to International Chess Championships in India, Hungary, and Brazil, to gripping battles against powerhouse fighters in Taiwan in the Push Hands World Championships, The Art of Learning encapsulates an extraordinary competitor’s life lessons in a page-turning narrative. Now 31, Waitzkin revisits that story from his own perspective and reveals how the fame that followed the movie based on his father's book became one of several obstacles to his further development as a chess master. He turned to tai chi to learn how to relax and feel comfortable in his body, but then his instructor suggested a more competitive form of the discipline called "push hands." In fact, he found a respect for artistry, meditation, and philosophical devotion within both chess and martial arts and realized the possibility for broader application to learning in general.

"This is a pamphlet with a cover ... interesting information but nothing that can't be obtained elsewhere for a lot less money."
