Eragon: Inheritance, Book I (The Inheritance Cycle 1)
Perfect for fans of Lord of the Rings, the New York Times bestselling Inheritance Cycle about the dragon rider Eragon has sold over 35 million copies and is an international fantasy sensation. A New York Times Bestseller. Christopher Paolini began Eragon when he was just 15, and the book shows the influence of Tolkien, of course, but also Terry Brooks, Anne McCaffrey, and perhaps even Wagner in its traditional quest structure and the generally agreed-upon nature of dwarves, elves, dragons, and heroic warfare with magic swords. Eragon bonds with the dragon, and when his family is killed by the marauding Ra'zac, he discovers that he is the last of the Dragon Riders, fated to play a decisive part in the coming war between the human but hidden Varden, dwarves, elves, the diabolical Shades and their neanderthal Urgalls, all pitted against and allied with each other and the evil King Galbatorix. While exploring the forest, 15-year-old Eragon discovers an odd blue gemstone—a dragon egg, fated to hatch in his care.

My Life in Pink & Green (Pink & Green series Book 1)
After the local homecoming queen shows up at her family's struggling drugstore with a beauty disaster that Lucy helps to fix, Lucy has a long line of makeover customers for every school dance and bat mitzvah. Like the recent Teashop Girls , also about an enterprising preteen trying to save a family business, this novel takes an upbeat approach to serious issues—money struggles and impending foreclosure—underscoring the optimistic message that one individual can make a difference. While Mom and Grandma argue about how to handle the crisis, Lucy, an aspiring makeup artist, joins her school’s Earth Club, researches green businesses, and hatches a plan to expand the pharmacy into an eco-spa. Many young readers will recognize likable Lucy’s frustrations (“I can’t wait for the day when adults take kids seriously”), as well as her growing excitement, all expressed in an utterly believable voice: “The Earth would be healthier just because of us .

"She has a restaurant there that also features entertainment, and has been able to bring people back to the old neighborhood. I'm not a kid anymore, (so far from it) but I can relate to her emotions about having to sell the place, or the possibility that her grandmother and mother might have to sell the family home."
"I don't think I realized it was a middle grade read, but I have to say this is the best middle grade/younger adult book I've read in a long while. I was thinking while I was reading this book, that she is definitely in the top five characters that I would love to meet in real life. :-). My only caveat was that Lucy's personality is so big, and her character so terrific, that she can't be contained in just one book, and at the end, I was so sad to see her go."
"The love part of the story was good too because I think every book should have that. I love the title of the book and I'm definitely going to read the sequel because this book was so insanely good."
"I think this book was very good."
"I love how theirs a life lesson in it, but also just fun 2 read without noticing it throughout the whole book."
"I really enjoyed this book!"

The Hate U Give
A National Book Award Longlist title with eight starred reviews! Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Some cops and the local drug lord try to intimidate Starr and her family. This story is important.” (Kirkus Reviews (starred review) ). “Though Thomas’s story is heartbreakingly topical, its greatest strength is in its authentic depiction of a teenage girl, her loving family, and her attempts to reconcile what she knows to be true about their lives with the way those lives are depicted—and completely undervalued—by society at large.” (Publishers Weekly (starred review) ). “Pair this powerful debut with Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely’s ALL AMERICAN BOYS to start a conversation on racism, police brutality, and the Black Lives Matter movement.” (School Library Journal (starred review) ). “Thomas has penned a powerful, in-your-face novel that will similarly galvanize fans of Kekla Magoon’s How It Went Down and Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely’s All American Boys.” (Horn Book (starred review) ).
Reviews
"I had originally said I was not going to read this book, I didn't know how well I would like it, and I don't tend to get involved with things that can make life at work harder for me. I hated reading it, I cried my eyes out, Thomas did such an amazing job of making a horrible action into beautiful fiction that made you feel like you were right there. This was really refreshing to read because so many books, YA especially make parents out to be monsters that don't care, that aren't there for their kids. I mean it is like a troupe or something for these stories and it isn't actually the norm and gets annoying to read, so this book did an amazing job with the parents and family. All around though this story just floored me, it gave me a perspective I have never considered before, offered insights into a world I am not a part of, and I loved every minute of it."
"In January, uber popular author, John Green, tweeted that The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas would become a classic. I can see this book lasting, not because it’s timeless (hopefully the struggles addressed in THUG will be no more, as Starr prophesied), but because it’s a flashpoint in American history that shouldn’t be forgotten even if it’s rectified. Angie Thomas’ debut is the kind of transformative and accessible novel that can touch a variety of readers and have long-lasting effects. They’re vigorous and honest, Angie Thomas’ words giving them breath, blood, and life. If you’ve read the blurb, then you know the Black Lives Matter movement inspires this novel. Experiencing the effects of that moment from Starr’s perspective is gut wrenching, although, I can foresee some readers feeling numb. Her rage over her friend’s murder is the emotion that steals the show, never leading to traditional acceptance. I mean, with all the hype it’s impossible not to go into this book with some expectation and my greatest fear regarding THUG was that it would piss me off."
"I found the story relevant, to today’s world and frankly how we all can relate to issues that are controversial."
"This book is amazing. First of all, this is apparently Ms. Thomas' first book, which is mind-blowing all on its own. Ms. Thomas has a way of telling stories which packs an emotional punch."

Ride Harder
Another classic western yarn from a master storyteller, Ride Harder follows cowpuncher Bud Eugen and his resourceful fiancée Marta as they confront all of the dangers Texas in the late 1880’s holds, both old and newfangled. Gordon Rottman lives outside of Houston, Texas, served in the Army for 26 years in a number of "exciting" units, and wrote war games for Green Berets for 11 years.
Reviews
"While I can admire the author trying to tell us how uneducated or poorly these folks speak 'Merican or Texican, the language was overdone to the point of incredulity and the absurd. The lieutenant is a cocky critter and somehow, I doubt for all his inflated ego that he would hang back for 2 weeks in the brush waiting for Bud and his cronies to finish the job."
"It's clear that Rottman knows his folks, his country, and the Rio Grand country."
"Marta and Bud have their money stolen from the bank."
"Am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series (Marta's Daughter)."
"An interesting story about a Mexican revolt, a bullheaded woman and her man."
"Mr. Rottman grabs you and keeps you running through out the book."
"This book is as action packed as Hardest Ride."
"This is a very entertaining book I read the first one in this series and enjoyed it very much, so I got this one following it."

If I Stay (If I Stay, Book 1)
Now a major motion picture starring Chloe Grace Moretz, Mia's story will stay with you for a long, long time. My first writing job was at Seventeen, where I spent five years on staff and as a contributor reporting the magazine’s social-issues stories. I loved writing for teens then because—contrary to popular opinion—they really care about serious issues (from child soldiers in Africa to kids embroiled in the drug war here) and the engage in their reading with such passion. And my husband is a musician; he was playing in a punk band when we met, so I’ve spent a lot of my life ensconced in that scene. Then she is standing outside her body beside their mangled Buick and her parents' corpses, watching herself and her little brother being tended by paramedics. I actually have to ask myself this), Mia is whisked away to a hospital, where, her body in a coma, she reflects on the past and tries to decide whether to fight to live. Via Mia's thoughts and flashbacks, Forman ( Sisters in Sanity ) expertly explores the teenager's life, her passion for classical music and her strong relationships with her family, friends and boyfriend, Adam. Mia's singular perspective (which will recall Alice Sebold's adult novel, The Lovely Bones ) also allows for powerful portraits of her friends and family as they cope: Please don't die. If you die, there's going to be one of those cheesy Princess Diana memorials at school, prays Mia's friend Kim.
Reviews
"Gayle Forman did a great job making this book relevant to all ages through the span of characters and mature yet relatable narration. Mia's story is so touching and heartbreaking yet so full of hope at the same time. First I have to say bravo to Gayle Forman for such beautiful writing - I read a lot of cheesy books and yes, they're fun, but nothing is better than a flat out wonderfully written story. I connected with everything Mia was feeling throughout her struggle to fight to stay alive or decide if it was her time to go. Re-read completed 8/11/13: Well since it was a re-read I wasn't as totally knocked out by it (just since there were some surprises and whatnot I already knew) but it's still such a beautiful story and wonderfully written. Re-read review posted 9/4/13 on The Book Addict's Guide: Gayle Forman is one of my all-time favorite authors and also a great writing inspiration. The beauty and emotion captured in her books are the reason I started the Gayle Forman Read Along... Well that and I needed a good excuse to re-read all of them because I've been meaning to do so ever since I finished JUST ONE DAY. It's still gorgeous and heartbreaking and bittersweet the second time around, but those little surprises really make up a sizable chunk of a "wow factor" for this book. Of course, that's a discussion for another day, but all of IF I STAY just really helped me remember how much I loved him and what a shame it was that I almost forgot! They both instantly made me a Gayle Forman fan for life and will always hold a special place in my heart."
"When they ask for an interview or waylay Adam with questions, they are always about him and not the band. He is in New York and will leave for London and the start of a tour with the band. After not having seen her nor heard her play in such a long time, he goes into the hall and listens. She is ready for the next stage of her life to begin; but there is one detail that needs to be addressed- Adam!"
"Grade: C-. Seventeen year old Mia's life hangs in the balance after a car accident kills her parents and brother. I liked the parts written in the present, the reactions of her loved ones and was interested in her ultimate decision. The poorest part of the book was the sophomoric dialogue, especially from the adults, which felt like words written for a novel, rather that easy discussion."

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian
Bestselling author Sherman Alexie tells the story of Junior, a budding cartoonist growing up on the Spokane Indian Reservation. He expects disaster when he transfers from the reservation school to the rich, white school in Reardan, but soon finds himself making friends with both geeky and popular students and starting on the basketball team. Arnold Spirit, a goofy-looking dork with a decent jumpshot, spends his time lamenting life on the "poor-ass" Spokane Indian reservation, drawing cartoons (which accompany, and often provide more insight than, the narrative), and, along with his aptly named pal Rowdy, laughing those laughs over anything and nothing that affix best friends so intricately together. He weathers the typical teenage indignations and triumphs like a champ but soon faces far more trying ordeals as his home life begins to crumble and decay amidst the suffocating mire of alcoholism on the reservation.

-Millions of copies sold-. #1 New York Times Bestseller. #1 Wall Street Journal Bestseller. #1 USA Today Bestseller. #1 International Bestseller. Amazon Best Books of the Month, January 2012 : In The Fault in Our Stars , John Green has created a soulful novel that tackles big subjects--life, death, love--with the perfect blend of levity and heart-swelling emotion. The two are kindred spirits, sharing an irreverent sense of humor and immense charm, and watching them fall in love even as they face universal questions of the human condition--How will I be remembered? To help her deal with this, her doctor sends her to a weekly support group where she meets Augustus Waters, a fellow cancer survivor, and the two fall in love. After announcing he would sign all 150,000 copies of this title’s first print run, it shot to the top of Amazon and Barnes & Noble’s best-seller lists six months before publication.
Reviews
"So many interactions between Gus and Hazel are interactions which, plain and simple, just would not happen between real, emotional, scared, awkward, virgin teenagers, let alone ones with cancer who have been socially cut off for much of their lives." After treatment, many of us find the things most teens (and sometimes adults) are worried about are trivial. And, it is emotional and scary, but we learn to tell it like it is, without the normal fluff and awkwardness. They try to keep the family together and functioning, in spite of the effects of treatment, fevers and midnight trips to the emergency room, 3 weeks of the month spent in isolation, jobs in jeopardy, birthdays and holidays interrupted, not to mention talks that parents never want to have with their child. My mom said their jobs become about doing whatever it takes, travelling all over the country (which is very common), researching new studies, and new medicines, all to help us survive and thrive with grace and dignity. It is also their job to prepare, if treatments don't work, to help us die with just as much grace and dignity."
"Green wrote this sad, tragic, yet beautiful story, it brings tears to my eyes."
"Both Hazel and Augustus suffer with some form of cancer, they have been robbed a joyous childhood, fun and games replaced by painful treatments and operations. I was not fond of the beginning, but Augustus tenacity won me over and the reader will fall in love with Gus's loyalty and companionship as deeply as Hazel. Together, Hazel and Augustus carve out a pocket of time to discover the sweet perfection of loving a person so much life seems meaningless with out them. This book reminds us that we are all here for a reason, no matter how much time we have, or what we accomplish, rich or poor, successful or not, that a rut in the road of life has been created with a lasting impression that will be there forever."
"It is a story about living with a disease, through the eyes of a teenage girl. It was also one of those books that as you near the end, you hesitate to read more because you really don’t want the story to end."

He is left only with a lightning-bolt scar on his forehead, curiously refined sensibilities, and a host of mysterious powers to remind him that he's quite, yes, altogether different from his aunt, uncle, and spoiled, piglike cousin Dudley. "IMPORTANT: For U.S. customers purchasing the illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, you will notice the text has NOT been converted to the "Americanized" version of the original U.S. releases. This difference isn't as prominent or noticeable as it was with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone, but still something to keep in mind. Also, to answer a question that has come up quite a bit, this is the FULL BOOK and not an abridged or shortened version. Underneath the book jacket, the novel is bound in a sturdy orange hardback with green lettering on the spine."
"I was ravenous to get my hands on my copy as soon as it was delivered this morning, but was quickly disappointed. But when I took a close look at my dust jacket, I was extremely upset to find that the gold foil lettering for "Harry Potter" had been rubbed away and destroyed completely in some places leaving ugly, black matte in its place-- pock marking the otherwise handsome gold lettering. Needless to say I'm in awe how Bloomsbury has managed to put together such an incredible project, with JK Rowling's remarkable literature and Jim Kay's otherworldly illustrations-- and allowed it to be put together in a low quality binding! Not all alone in a box... Update (October 9th): I have finally received my new book and it was in much, much better condition. The cover and spine were tight, intact and falling apart from the binding like my original copy."

"The trilogy is finished but the adventure continues."
"Other authors do not know how to count, and you get trilogies of 9 books like the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, or Xanth that is now up to 40 published and 2 forthcoming in the series. In Fact the only trilogy I liked as much were The Lord of The Rings by Tolkien, and I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga, and for vary different reason. In my review of Sword and Serpent I stated: “I believe that this would have been a book that both Tolkien and Lewis would have loved. I can picture the Inklings sitting with a pint discussing the story and speculating where it would go next.” And in my review of The Tenth Region of the Night I added: “I believe they would have loved this sequel and be eagerly awaiting book III.” And from where I sit it was worth the wait. In this book, and this series, Dr. Taylor Marshall writes in and around the lives of saints, drawing us back in time to when Christianity was a feared and persecuted religion. He has drawn extensively from historical sources and written this incredible tale around truth, and around the legends. But after he receives a word of knowledge he knows that the future he had hoped for might not be, for he will be forced to choose between his faith, and his life. We follow the stories of numerous characters, in different locals who are all being drawn to the Diocletian and a conflict between earthly and heavenly powers."
"This novel, set in the 4th Century, is truly a masterpiece of fiction intertwined with legend and history. There are so many novels today to pick from, how great to have a story that actually Is fun, interesting, hard to put down, and also life changing. The subject here, as in the other 2 books preceding it, is the Christian faith as lived by great saints. In “Storm of Fire and Blood” Taylor Marshall continues the story where the previous one left off. Woven into the tale are great elements of true friendship, self sacrifice, forgiveness, conversion, and enduring Christian love. Here is a wonderful portrayal of some truely saintly lives spun into a very interesting and captivating story."

A Christmas Carol (Puffin Classics)
With a light-hearted introduction by bestselling author Anthony Horowitz, creator of the highly successful Alex Rider novels, most recently Snakehead . In the history of English literature, Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol , which has been continuously in print since it was first published in the winter of 1843, stands out as the quintessential Christmas story.
Reviews
"One of my co-workers encouraged me to read this since I have only seen the TV/Movie versions."
"Not common to find illustrations in books today unless they are children stories. Lots of great quotes come from this story but the most famous is BAH!"
"We've enjoyed many kinds of productions of this classic Scrooge story."
"Somehow, I made my way through high school and college without having to read one of his novels. Finally, a few weeks before Christmas, I decided to give this a try when I learned it is relatively short."
"I am late 30's and sometimes have a tough time focusing for long spans of time unless the story is captivating from the get go, you have to appreciate writing for the sake of verb-age and description to get into this."
"I believe Charles Dickens even manages to distance himself from popular British opinion, giving the French peasants good reason to revolt, yet simultaneously lamenting the magnitude of their retributive actions."
"So many changes to the way we live since the time of Dickens, but “A Christmas Carol” remains endearingly and enduringly relevant."
"How can a mere reader add anything new regarding Charles Dickens (1812-1880) as a writer and the standing of his novel 'Great Expectations' (1860 )in particular. We can even today relate to Miss Haversham's extreme reaction to being jilted on her wedding day and to Pip's changing attitude as he grows from a boy to a man. Peter Carey, the Australian writer was so entranced by Magwitch that he has written a successful novel examing the convict in a completely different way. Dicken's was much concerned with the human condition and he used his novels to highlight social disparities and the meaning of good and evil."

"I initially bought this book off of others reviews & will admit I almost put it down. The main character, Thomas sort of got on my nerves as well in the beginning with all of his questioning but like I said, I stuck with it & I am so glad I did. The author does a great job of putting you in the middle of the action & developing his characters."
"Story consistent, good character development I did not get lost in the details the story haunting, I left the book for a while, remembered it and the story flowed like I never left, missing the characters already, like old friends, they went through so much during the tail to get to the conclusion I will definitely put this author in my top 10."
"At times it did seem to drag, prolonging pointless ventures and not going in-depth on the real issues and events that were happening. At the very end of the last book, Dashner does something different and very interesting by taking you back in time to how it all started. But just the same as the regular story line, he drops you at the end. There are so many other questions, but until Dashner can answer them, I will be left to peruse the internet for blogs and forums of other readers in hopes that they picked up on something I may have missed."
"A lot of people have also been saying that the book is very confusing and hard to understand but I believe different on this too. I think the author does a great job with the character Thomas."
"The Maze Runner has been recommended by tons of my friends, and I have been wanting to see the movie ever since I have heard about it. What has also interested me was the other book the author James Dasher wrote, which was the Eye of Minds. Thomas is just a 16 year old boy, who has been thrown into this huge place, and he has no idea what has happened to him. I think James Dasher is my new favorite author because of his amazing writing skills and his adventure filled books!"
"I read this book after I had read the Book 1 of the series. Wait until after reading all 3 book before you read the Prequel."

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He is left only with a lightning-bolt scar on his forehead, curiously refined sensibilities, and a host of mysterious powers to remind him that he's quite, yes, altogether different from his aunt, uncle, and spoiled, piglike cousin Dudley. Of course, Uncle Vernon yells most unpleasantly, "I AM NOT PAYING FOR SOME CRACKPOT OLD FOOL TO TEACH HIM MAGIC TRICKS!" So far it has won the National Book Award, the Smarties Prize, the Children's Book Award, and is short-listed for the Carnegie Medal, the U.K. version of the Newbery Medal. After 11 years of disregard and neglect at the hands of his aunt, uncle and their swinish son Dudley, Harry suddenly receives a visit from a giant named Hagrid, who informs Harry that his mother and father were a witch and a wizard, and that he is to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry himself.

Reviews
"An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir introduces Laia and her brother Darin, who both live with their grandparents. The story alternates between Laia and Elias and suspense flows throughout the entire book, each section ending on a cliffhanger. Laia enters the Empire as the Commandant’s slave and as a spy for the resistance, in exchange for helping Darin."
"I really enjoyed this book but sometimes the pace was too fast and there were points where the author did more telling vs showing."
"The romance between the 2 main characters does a great job of building slowly, adding to the anticipation and suspense in the book."
"I feel we've heard and read a lot of books with Heroines and kick butt girls who are so strong and tough, especially physically. I love how Laia is different, how she is scared to act and do things that would draw attention to herself, how she's not sure about how to stick up for what she believes in, but finds a drive and will never stop or give up on her brother."
"Among the unspeakable violence there is love, loyalty, courage and heroism coming from the most unexpected sources while betrayals plague from the blind side."
"Early on in the story Laias' family is attacked and she makes a choice regarding her own freedom that haunts her to the point of destruction before she squares her shoulders and not only takes responsibility but works towards redemption. Elias is on the opposite end of the ability spectrum, he has more skill (fighting, weaponry, stealth, survival) than any human has a right, but is struggling with his conscious and the mental detachment the Martials demand of him."
"The heroine in this novel is middle eastern!"

Reviews
"Each character has their own story or book and its all good."
"Before reading this series, any book with Dragons drew my attention."
"Yes some of these books are so predictable but then there are other aspects that are shockers."
"Good set of books."
"Really enjoyed these books."
"I was absolutely addicted to this series though without saying too much the overall ending was flat considering how well the first 4 books left you, If I had been left a little more dropped from a great height, let's say it would have received 5 stars."
"Love Dragons, the fantasy of mine to meet or be Dragon rider or Shifter."

You're Only Old Once!: A Book for Obsolete Children (Classic Seuss)
Though Dr. Seuss is known for his peerless work in books for children, this comical look at what it's like to get older is ideal for Seuss fans of advanced years. Subtitled A Book for Obsolete Children , this unusual item in the Seuss canon doesn't really belong among the children's books. Written to celebrate the nonsense master's 82nd birthday, it follows "you" (an elderly gent in a suit and white moustache) through a physical check-up in some fiendish geriatric clinic.
Reviews
"True Seuss style, Colorful drawings, but; really still a bit too juvenile for adults of a certain age."
"I bought this as a gift for a friend who was retiring."
"Bought this as a gag birthday present for our young daughter and she read it to us as if we were the students and she was the teacher."
"Quickly shipped and provided lots of laughs for a 75th birthday."
"Brother's 80th birthday present.....he loved it ...."
"Bought for a retirees party."
"My friend loved this book for her 50th birthday."
"Added to gifts for the girls."

The Hobbit (Lord of the Rings)
Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable, unambitious life, rarely traveling any farther than his pantry or cellar. Bilbo reluctantly joins their quest, unaware that on his journey to the Lonely Mountain he will encounter both a magic ring and a frightening creature known as Gollum. Bilbo, along with his friend Gandalf the Wizard, embarks on an adventure with a band of dwarves that sends them into the wild and the depths of the earth to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from a dragon. What transpires as a game of riddles and escape from the creature Gollum in the Hobbit is, in fact, the foundation for an entire adventure for the whole of Middle Earth in Bilbo's later years. Inspired by the author's time serving in World War I, The Hobbit builds to a climactic battle in which many characters met throughout the book reappear.
Reviews
"I did a ton of research and decided upon this version (ISBN 116-1749849-2513827), illustrated by Alan Lee and published by Harper Collins in June 2014 (I am adding these details because the Amazon.com site does not make it clear what this version is). The only drawback is that the facsimile pages of the Book of Mazarbul was not included, which I found to be surprising and a bit disappointing Also, the ring inscription and the Gandalf "rune" are printed in black rather than silver and red. Probably the main issue is the clear plastic slipcover, which is barely bigger than the book itself, and it is difficult to slip the book back inside it after taking it out."
"I'll keep it brief, this is not a review of the actual story but of this specific edition."
"I'd never read these books all the way through before, and was determined to try, despite remembering what I had read as being tedious and somewhat purple-prose-ish."
"The font size seems to be based on the length of the books, the longer the books are, the smaller the font is (I suppose this was in order to keep them pocket-sized as well as consistent with the sizes of the other books throughout the set)."

Brian's Winter (Brian's Saga Book 3)
But what if Brian hadn't been rescued? Then came a sequel, The River, and, last year, Father Water, Mother Woods, a collection of autobiographical essays introduced as the nonfiction counterpart to Hatchet. Authoritative narration makes it easy for readers to join Brian vicariously as he wields his hatchet to whittle arrows and arrowheads and a lance, hunts game, and devises clothes out of animal skins; while teasers at the ends of chapters keep the tension high ("He would hunt big tomorrow, he thought.... Then, his freeze-dried food runs out and his rifle fails, and he realizes how careless and complacent he has become. Suddenly aware of the changing seasons, he works frantically to winterize his shelter, fashion warmer clothes from animal skins, and construct a more powerful bow and arrow.
Reviews
"This is a great read for a teen reader."
"She loved this book."
"it was a gift, he loved it."
"This was an interesting and fast-paced read."
"Love all the Hatchet books by Paulsen."
"Well written, this alternate ending to "Hatchet" shows how Brian would survive winter alone if he hadn't been rescued at the end of summer."
"Every child who has reached double digits in age should read Gary Paulsen's "Brian Series"."
"Gary Paulsen has written another good yarn--an alternative ending to "Hatchet" where Brian stays through the beginning of winter."
