"When using it as a writer (I know the word, but not its spelling, nor if I completely understand the word I seek to use) and not as a reader, I would have been more pleased if those who had added electronic usability had also made it more intuitive to those of us with poorer ability to spell by more simply allowing the browsing for a word as is done with a paper dictionary."

"This was a gift."

"The scripture at the bottom of the page is already written out for you, you don't have to go searching unless you want to read it in a different version, which is good too."
"I gave my last one away and ordered this one but it doesn't have the scripture references typed out like my last one."

Best Reference in Italian

Merriam-Webster's Italian-English Translation Dictionary (Italian Edition)
Compatible with Kindle Voyage, Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle, Kindle Fire with Fire OS 4+, Kindle Keyboard, Kindle Touch, Kindle DX, Kindle for Android (version 4.0+), and Kindle for iPad/iPhone (version 4.0+). Merriam Webster Inc, Springfield, MA.
Reviews
"It cannot recognize conjugated verbs or even plural words. You have to figure out the root word, type it in manually, and then use the 5-way to move to the right and highlight the "dictionary" button to look things up. It does have trouble with apostrophe-joined words, but that's completely understandable (Baron's can't handle that either). The other Italian dictionary for Kindle (Andrei Pushkin and Dima Suponau) seems to also handle these things to some extent, but I downloaded the sample, and it's not near as comprehensive as the Merriam-Webster's. And as the default dictionary for reading Italian texts, the Merriam-Webster is the hands-down winner. UPDATE: April 12, 2012 - I have spent some time now both with this dictionary and Baron's. It's still very useful, and it still has the key advantage of understanding verb conjugations, plurals, etc."
"This dictionary is invaluable for studying Italian on a Kindle device, but it would have to be closer to unabridged to earn five stars."
"This is a great dictionary, but the latest update to the kindle reader for ipad (downloaded on february 16,2013), changed something so that now searches do NOT turn up most headwords (because of the apostrophes separating the syllables)."
"Good dictionary for use w Kindle Italian books--I am studying Italian."
"I have purchased three Italian-English dictionaries for my Paperwhite Kindle and none of them define words inside the text as I'm reading."
"When it knows the word you're looking for, the translation and usage is helpful."
"Unless you read simple texts written in modern Italian you will be disappointed."

"I have Merriam-Webster Android version also, however I wanted hardcover type one. Because; 1) I'd like read/check preface, explanatory chart, explanatory notes, and so on this dictionary (it meaning, I'd like to read preface and appendixes of Webster). So, I recommend hardcover type dictionary even it's very heavy :) However, when I opened the dictionary at first..."
"Perfect, you can't find a hard cover dictionary in many stores anymore, and this is just what I was looking for."
"If you are planning to use this as a kindle dictionary, you'll often run into definitions that contain the word itself."
"Finally, Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary is a very good all-purpose dictionary, including as it does everything from basic vocabulary, to technical words, spanning the entire history of modern English up to the present."
"A clumsy volume, clearly thrown together by people without enough experience in digital production, it also lacks the rigor needed to constitute a useful dictionary on any platform."
