"I've lived in San Francisco for many years and been taking photos for many years more than that."
"While of course not all subjects are offered fourteen different ways, some are offered more than one way and all are carefully described with enough information to replicate the example image yourself. Without extended time to wander San Francisco and northern California searching on my own for image opportunities, I'm confident this book will improve my image collection on my upcoming visit there."
"It would have been better to be direct with the photo information rather than get into a history of each of the major stops listed in the book (often several are listed on a page, and in paragraph form). Pick up this book but don't forget the Frye book if Yosemite is part of your destination."

"This book gives some advice on some of the best locations to shoot from; however, it is heavy on the side of film cameras and has not been updated for digital."
"The one big thing I think the author missed on is that photographing the Grand Canyon is not really complete without rafting from Lees Ferry to at least Whitmore Wash."
"I just returned from a vacation to both Sedona, AZ and the Grand Canyon."
"Indeed, Sedona is covered, but the information takes up just about a page."
"This book is a very good overview to the best scenic sights in Northern Arizona."
"Now, I'll admit I use a polarizer on most outdoor work, but enhancing filters should only be used when the subject needs that extra saturation to look right. The terrain of the Grand Canyon is red enough, and doesn't need that weird orange glow each of the pictures in this book has due to the constant use of enhancing filters. He also seems to have a penchant for taking photos in light that creates contrast far exceeding the dynamic range of his film, leaving the highlights well exposed, but the shadows dark and nearly featureless."

Since its publication in 1980, The Guadalupe Mountains of Texas has received many honors, including the Friends of the Dallas Public Library Award from the Texas Institute of Letters and recognition for its superb design from the Rounce and Coffin Club. The Guadalupe Mountains of the Big Bend region of Texas contain some of the wildest and most magnificent scenery of any primordial wilderness area in the world.

Framing the West argues that photography was intrinsic to British territorial expansion and settlement on the northwest coast. --Larry McNeil, Boise State University and Tlingit and Nisgaá Nations. "Williams's intricate readings of the intersections of class, race, gender, economic, religious, and political status return some measure of control to the photogrpahic subjects and honor the multiple, vexing reasons for their participation in the construction of a visual archive that has been broadly used to disenfranchise Indians."
