Find Best Price at Amazon"I'm a licensed teacher who purchased these to teach son how to read. This change would give an emergent reader the opportunity to practice decoding. After purchasing these and being a bit disappointed I searched and found some better options. My son conquered these quickly, and it really helped his esteem as a beginning reader."
"If your child is at the point were they are learning to point at a word to read and you are looking for a sight word(dolch) readers set. an example:(that is the words for the entire 7 pages in the book. I would prefer a beginner reader that switches the words around a little more, so they aren't quit so easy to just remember with out looking at the words in the sentence. But young children will find these rewarding to read until they become more confident readers."
"These go on the out of reach shelf unless we are reading together, which is kind of a shame really because one of his favorite things to do is sit and thumb through his books picking out words he knows telling himself the jist of the stories."
"Crazy kids are being pushed to read so soon (IMHO) but my son is enjoying these."
"Stories could've been better put together."
"A couple of pages were bent or folded, and some of the little books spines were coming apart."
"Granddaughter has read all of these books and knows everyone one in this pack."
"My 5 year old just started Kindergarten and loves to read thanks in part to the books topics, pictures, and easy to follow story line."

Developed by pediatrician Michael Levin, the program has also been used successfully for children with disabilities. For many young readers (including children who are familiar with the alphabet), the letters in words seem to melt together. The special typography and font style the book uses will help your child to identify and separate the letters she already knows. We suggest the following schedule: For children under five, one page per day will suffice and maintain their concentration on the lesson. Remember: you have plenty of time to complete the course and, if necessary, to go back and repeat the course before your child starts reading instruction in school. Contrary to some books that suggest that you can teach infants to read, there is no proof that such a thing is possible. Flashing cards with letters and words at a baby is a fun thing to do and makes us feel like good parents, but it does not work! The book is an easy and cheap solution to teaching your children to read at home, and has been a success with families all around the world. Regional accents and children's relatively weak auditory and articulation skills account for the variations. Encourage your child to make the closest possible sound to the one suggested in the lesson but allow some leeway. Through animation and simple games, these multimedia companions will make learning to read fun. For very young children, we suggest, the Sounds of Letters DVD, another good way to teach phonics. For many young readers (including children who are familiar with the alphabet), the letters in words seem to melt together. How fast should you go The length and the pace of the daily lessons will vary with the child's age and abilities. Remember: you have plenty of time to complete the course and, if necessary, to go back and repeat the course before your child starts reading instruction in school. Flashing cards with letters and words at a baby is a fun thing to do and makes us feel like good parents, but it does not work. If your child is having real trouble staying on task and learning the material of the first lessons, he may not be ready for this program. Children need to develop both of these types of reading abilities, so we advise not to skip the sentences just because the child does not want to do them. Our brain receives direct messages from the movement of our finger joints and remembers the shape of each letter.

Find Best Price at Amazon"I bought my first copy 4 years ago and used it to teach my daughter to read when she was 5. We finished maybe 2/3 of the book and one day I heard her, from another room in the house, reading a book out loud fluently and perfectly. I was surprised when I heard her because she was reading words and sounds we hadn't yet covered in our lessons. Since it worked so well with my daughter I recently purchased my second copy of this book to teach my 4 year old son to read."

Despite the fact that my husband and I are voracious readers, and that we read to our daughter daily, she had developed a loathing towards all things letters. When she was still mixing up her letters and sounds, and resistant towards all reading games at 5 years old, I began to worry. Find Best Price at Amazon"The price looked reasonable (if it doesn't work then at least I didn't lose too much money) and the system itself seemed to make sense (story with sight words repeated throughout and a short quiz at the end). The fourth time, he was able remember the sight words on each page and even passed the "quiz" on the inside back cover. He did mess up once or twice but I had him calm down (he was super excited), breathe slowly, concentrate and focus on the words. Now I can supplement this with phonics reading for non-sight words and he should be ready for 1st grade at a school next year!"
