"Throwing in the compass, whistle and very comfortable handle and in my humble opinion, this is one of the better survival values on the market. The handle is one of my favorites of any firesteel that I have used, and is much more stable than the traditional "thumb grips" of other fire starters. The scraper works very well and can even be used in conjunction with a magnesium block to help create shavings with it's "toothed" edge. The rod itself seems to throw ample sparks and it is long enough that it is easier to use than the stubs that many firesteels resemble. I had my wife and daughter using them and getting fires started using tinder having never used a firesteel before in about 15 minutes after showing them technique. I would say that this is a great purchase for a first-time firesteel user as it's longer-than-normal length makes it more forgiving, and it can be used by the beginner in almost no time. The built in compass and emergency whistle make this thing an exceptional value, and at the price-point the is little excuse not to have one of these with you at all times (in every vehicle, as well as your packs)."
