I followed the directions and applied it with a cloth, taking time to go over every inch and cover every stitch. After wiping off the excess oil, I noticed that there was a waxy and slightly greasy feel to the boots. Well I ran them under a faucet and the water just rolled right off without leaving any dark spots, so I'd say yes. I also didn't need much to cover both boots so there will be plenty for reapplication which I understand could be every 3-4 months or so."

There is no electrical tape type hem because everything is covered in some kind of hefty suede material below the shell. The strap is typical nylon type material, but the chin and ear portions are covered in bonded leather and are very soft. Also, it comes with a nice instruction booklet and some warranty (6 month limited). And it has a accident replacement program for up to ONE year with a small fee+ S&H from the purchase date. You have 30 days from the date of purchase to register your product if you want to be in the program. And for the safety, 60-70 bucks is nothing... worth saving the money."
