"If you hike long distances, and you don't need their water proof protection, I would leave these on only for the short 1-2 miles."
"I also have a brand new pair of these that I ordered in December of 2011, just in case they discontinue making them or the quality goes South, still sitting in their box."
"They look like they will do well in mud because the lugs are deep enough for good traction, but not so deep that they won't be able shed the bulk of it."
"I am totally happy with these boots and can't wait for the first rainy day to test their water tightness."
"I run around Seattle and surrounding suburbs in this in the rain, hiking around neighborhoods, and my feet are always dry."
"Best of all, they seemed old once I arrived home; but warm. Water, a brush and boot polisher and shinner makes them look new again!"
"They even have a waterproof tag on the boot."

"However, they run small since they will be going on snow boots which are larger than regular shoes so I suggest you order one size larger. Only time will tell if they withstand the torture this item will go through."
"My size L cleats are perfect."
"These have been very helpful on my daily walks in the current single-digit frigid termperatures we are experiencing here in the northeast."
"I will be exchanging this large pair for an extra large and hope that that will be large enough for my size 11 shoes."
"I also order medium for a friend and it's a very tight fit to get them on a women's size 8 New Balance shoe, but it did work."
"After we had a fog ice incident here in Missouri I thought I would buy these for my husband."
"We regularly got severe ice storms and all our roads were quite hilly, so for 10 years, all 180 of us tried every type of ice cleats we could find, from very expensive professional quality crampons designed for glacier climbing, to very low budget ones. As a result, we became very familiar with the quality and durability of the different types of rubber used in ice cleats. Unfortunately, as soon as I stretched the rubber of the Stabilicers, my heart sank because the sides were so extremely flimsy, just like all the other rubber cleats we had tried over the years."

Find Best Price at Amazon"The boot was still good to go but I had a pair of unused Merrell's waiting at home so I decided to get those sent out. I completed my thru hike a couple days ago and I'll say that I will never use another pair of boots. If you're unfamiliar with the AT, the last 484 miles of the trail going north includes the White Mountains, southern Maine (which some including myself believe is harder than the Whites), the 100 Mile Wilderness and then the summit of Katahdin. I noticed that the seams on the front of the boots do come open though, same thing happened with the Quest 1s that I began with. You can fully submerge the boot up near its collar and as long as you remove your foot fast enough, you will stay dry. Other hikers I was with would have to carefully hop around little 2-3 inch puddles of mud and water while I could just walk straight through it and stay dry. It's a high cut boot so if you roll your ankle while hiking (which I do a lot) you will be fine. The soles of the Quest 2s are pretty tough, you'll have to step on a very sharp pointy rock to feel it. After summiting Katahdin, I continued onto the Knifes Edge which is a very narrow and dangerous trail. I carried a load of 40-45lbs on the trail and the Quests (1 and 2) had no problem bearing that weight and keeping my feet comfortable. Pros. - Nice lacing system. - Great traction/tread. - Does well against water. - Very durable and lasts long (Have nearly 500 miles on mine and they can still go. Over 1,000 on the Quest 1s). - Good looking boot. - Almost zero break in time. - No blisters. - Comfortable. - Great foot and ankle protection. - Can handle heavy backpack weight. - Easy to put on and take off. Cons. - Laces tend of come loose. - Seams wear out."
"They do seem much more rugged and feature very aggressive tread with some dyed leather around the base of the boot."
"They are a well built hiker, I don't hike much anymore, but I am in construction and wear them daily in all sorts of bad weather, rock, crawlspace, etc."
"I wear 11.5 in salomon Shoes, but need to go to 12 in these boots for my toes to feel comfortable and not crowded."
"First of all, the laces are made from a high quality material that is very durable and will not soak up water so they dont pinch into itself like a tennis shoe lace. Besides, the laces are so long and durable I will be glad to know I have emergency cord if Im in the backcountry and get into a pickle."
"I tried these as well as a pair of Kenetrek Bridger Ridge Mid's on a recent Colorado elk hunting trip, and the Salomon's are far superior."
"But a hassle to cinch up laces as eyelets stop too far down the shoe and laces easily become unhooked (with the upper hooking system) when attempting to put on the boot."

"This is probably our fifth or sixth pair of these Merrells in this family: the fabric stays good looking through all kinds of weather, the color always looks good, the soles don't wear out EVER, and the children are willing to wear them."
"But now I have to order another pair a full size smaller for her to wear now."
"I really wish I could wear beautiful shoes, but recently have developed foot problems."
"My son has issues with fine motor coordination, so he has a lot of trouble tying, or doing zippers, buttons, or snaps."
"After he grew out of those we decided to try another style of shoe just for fun. As we were looking for shoes he didn't care about the cartoon styles or cool light up shoes. A nice all terrain sturdy shoe."
"My son loves the ease and comfort of these shoes, and that he can even wear them to church."
"I should had the feet measured for correct size."

"They have not worn as well as expected, the toe has become super-scuffed and it really doesn't look very good anymore, but the kid doesn't care...he'll wear them until they fall apart."
"We (my grandson and I) are very happy with the Deer Stags Mack2 boot and will definitely be ordering them again soon."
"Only problem out of the box besides the smaller fit is one of the metal circles where you string the laces was already off but I just took pliers and pinched them back together and you cant tell it was ever off."
"Son loves theses boots."
"It is not like other boots where in the leather feels like a thin piece of paper and was just supported with harder stuff inside."
"Boots arrived quick and as expected; my son is a 2.5, I ordered a 3 to give him room to grow and it should give him the winter with the boots."
"Got scuffed up really quick and after daily wear for about 60 days the seams are coming out."

"These are very comfortable for walking or extended hiking trips, and with a nice set of insoles will become my most favorite boots ever."

"Proof is in their ability to stand up to my hiking regimen."
"I also worked around and lot of water and wet feet were an everyday thing."

"My boyfriend uses these as his daily work boots and stands up nearly all day, sometimes for 12 hour shifts, and now will not wear any other shoe to work, because nothing else compares in comfort."
"I was looking for a hiking boot presentable enough to wear to work on casual Fridays, yet tough enough to hike a macadam path 2-3 miles at lunchtime (not challenging). On line,Timberland promotes its "Renewbuck Suede Leather" cleaner, along with a warning that it may discolor the upper."

Find Best Price at Amazon"I was a little late in committing to hiking boots, and I only wore these for a 3 mile walk before hitting the trail with my 28 lb pack. Our first day on the trail turned out to be the most arduous; we both hiked in our new Keens for over 7 hours across incredibly rocky, rugged terrain. I was pleased to find that I did not notice any increased drag or feeling of a weighted foot despite being accustomed to wearing hiking shoes. Each of our days had a high of about 75 degrees F. We were (fortunately) unable to test out how well waterproofed these boots were as we had gorgeous weather the entire trip."
"I recently returned from a trip to Peru where I hiked the Inca Trail in the middle of rainy season. I initially googled the best waterproof hiking shoes and these didn't make the cut, but they were in my price range and I went for it anyway. One woman actually bought Salomon hiking boots, which were rated #1, and she was upset about the quality/the fact that her feet were damp."
"I ordered the neutral grey/mineral blue and the color was somewhat off from the photos on Amazon. I am also a street size 7.5 so I ordered an 8 since the Keen website suggested to go half a size up."
"The second hike left my feet somewhat uncomfortable. Today was my third hike that lasted 5.5 miles, and my left foot is throbbing along the bone that is just below the large toe and under the pad of the foot. I even bought a pair of Keen hiking boots for a 16 year old to introduce him to the Keen brand."
