Just a compression base layer underneath and I was comfortable on an hour long ride."

A lot of "winter" cycling jackets have huge areas of the jacket that is not thermal/windproof, mainly the back area. I understand the reasoning for it, so the sweat has a place to go but when you're cycling in truly winter temperatures, meaning single digits and even less with windchill, that huge back panel is going to make you feel so cold, and I'm trying to avoid wearing my big chunky coat since it tends to make me overheat and sweat more than what I should. I would like to just wear windproof thermal jacket (with 2 layers underneath not including the baselayer) with a relatively lite windbreaker jacket over for those single digit commutes and I'm hoping this jacket will be that third layer. The first time around I wore a thermal baselayer, a jersey, a jacket, this jacket, and my windbreaker."
